This will remove the artificial lights on the character during gameplay, while leaving them on in cutscenes. The AdditiveLighting value can be modified to preference. It just adds a bit of global light, for example inside caves so as not to have a pitch black screen.
Thanks, this additive light setting is rather crucial for interiors I'd say. For me, 0.1 was still very, very dark. Right at the start of the game, in the inn, it was pitch-black. I currently have it at 7.5 and it looks like a good compromise for the interiors.
@Spitballzz: With the third option of this mod set to off, cutscenes will stay as bright as in vanilla game. The additive lighting only adds to gameplay.
I implemented this method of creating the .ini file at /..../platform/pc. I noticed the following behavior and just curious any further tweaks to address the golden shadow in Geralt's hair, beard, that appears when you disable the BigCameraLights, or other thoughts that explains this. It is my understanding that once we disable the BigCamera it must be exposing a sort of shadow behavior on the character because there is no direct light on him now at every angle. If for instance, you are outdoors and look at the side of him being hit by the sun light, there is no golden shadow, its only on the shadowed side of his head that you see it. You can turn the character model towards the sun and it goes away.
I tested both small and big camera configurations to see which one when disabled was causing the golden shadowing and only happens in the configuration below when disabling BigCamera.
Anyone know, why this (and Cozy RTX fires from same author) do not save chosen options after restarting a game? I'd like to keep options in menu to tweak values directly in game, so saving to dx12user.settings is not solution to me. Thanks.
Great mod!May I ask if only the last option will affect the lighting of the cutscene animation?Can this mod be compatible with Quest Cutscene Lighting Edits by OFG?Thank for your help!
Hello guys, I have had this weird Eye texture bug for quite some time now and i just cant seem to resolve it... I added a short clip on YouTube for anyone that wants to see an example, its not like this all the time though, it appears at random in cutscenes. Thanks for any help! https://youtu.be/LVSv-WcZ0CM
Can anyone explain the difference between each entry? As far as I understand they do the folllowing:
DisableBigCameraLights = bigger light surrounding Geralt that lights up interiors a lot DisableSmallCameraLights = Smaller light that lights just the character DisableAllCameraLights = Just controls both the above? Or is it related to cutscenes? And if so, which lights exactly?
Im a bit confused with the name, mainly the last one, cause in the mod its called all gameplay and cutscenes which lights when I thought it meant “all” lights such as the 2 above, which would be the same as just turning the last one off and you’d be good?
Aaaah! Ok, so if you disable Big and Small then it’s just the ingame stuff right? Third one covers the other two PLUS cutscenes.
Even though it’s not 100% true tho right? Because I remember disabling everything and a lot of cutscenes being really bright, so what exactly is it disabling in cutscenes then?
Just open dx12user.settings file or user.settings (depending on which version of the game you are playing); the files are located at <USERNAME>\Documents\The Witcher 3\ and open them using your favorite text editor. Use the CTRL+F (Find/Search function) to locate [Rendering] and thenand copy past these lines under it:
(whereasTrue disables them, while False enables them) and that's it. Once you are done, save the changes and enjoy your game.
These lines work exactly the same way the mod's options used to do: Disable Gameplay Lights 1 Disable Gameplay Lights 2 Disable Cutscene Lights (sorted respectively.)
Still, people should not forget giving the mod's author a kudos for the effort, nevertheless.
There must be one more camera light line. If Big and Small are set to false, and ALL is set to true, the cutscene light is removed AND the big and small light. This suggest that it's a shortcut for all lights, and overrides the individual lines, including the one in the cutscenes, and that the cutscene light has another, independent line. How did you come to find these lines, if they aren't in the ini file to begin with?
yeah so once you've added the necessary lines, you need to set the file to "read-only" in the properties of that user settings file. it's what I had to do and it works and stays undeleted now
Thank you for this useful info. I am just curious what is the point of adding lines with the False key? Can I just add the lines with the True key to turn lights off and if I don't want to disable AllCameraLights I just don't add that line?
Weird, I cannot get DisableAllCameraLights=true to stick for the life of me, doing exactly as above. Every time, I have to set it in the mod options, even though it is reflected as True in user.settings under [Rendering] (I'm running DX11).
I noticed that Tweaks has these 3 lines at the bottom of the Graphics menu.
Disable Small Camera Lights Disable Large Camera Lights Disable All Camera Lights
I'm not sure if it's the same as what you stated, it should be I think? I've played with it for a bit and noticed that when disabling Large Camera Lights even entire rooms become darker but way more realistic, look much better. Had no idea there were fake gigantic lights inside areas lol. With RT it works even better.
But I'm guessing to disable for cutscenes one has to disable ALL three options right? I tested this and in the prologue, when Geralt wakes up it looked like a fake light was there but it could be the fire + sun rising to be honest. Just want to make sure if this works on every scene essentially and "safe" to use. Curious you didn't add a "caves" option like your old mod?
Also, with Tweaks it's definitely not sticking. It resets every time you exit the game.
Is there a way to reduce the fake lighting instead of removing it completely?
From what I understand, ray tracing was implemented around it. Disabling the fake light while having RT on in caves coupled with torches results in blond hair and beard. The skin will get a little bit purple as well.
For some reason my game doesn't remember my settings after a restart. So I don't understand what the purpose of the menu is if it has to be configured every time I start the game.
I copied the solution from bugs section, you just need to do this
Just open dx12user.settings file or user.settings (depending on which version of the game you are playing); the files are located at <USERNAME>\Documents\The Witcher 3\ and open them using your favorite text editor. Use the CTRL+F (Find/Search function) to locate [Rendering] and thenand copy past these lines under it:

If i use dx11, i copy them to user.settings file located in Documents? And where do i put those lines exactly? Under "Rendering" or "[Rendering/RT/HBIL]" or "[Rendering/TAA]"? And do i still need to download the mod and put it into mod folder? Thanks for answer
Don't see DisableSmallCameraLights doing anything at all when changed. DisableBigCameraLights shuts interior lighting off, but also small camera lights it seems?

Add the following commands to it and save it:
[Rendering]
DisableBigCameraLights=true
DisableSmallCameraLights=true
DisableAllCameraLights=false
[RTXGI]
AdditiveLighting=0.1
This will remove the artificial lights on the character during gameplay, while leaving them on in cutscenes. The AdditiveLighting value can be modified to preference. It just adds a bit of global light, for example inside caves so as not to have a pitch black screen.

Using DX12 and no ray tracing.
[Rendering]
DisableBigCameraLights=true
DisableSmallCameraLights=false
DisableAllCameraLights=false
[RTXGI]
AdditiveLighting=1.0
like to keep options in menu to tweak values directly in game, so saving to dx12user.settings is not solution to me. Thanks.

I don't know why, when I open my game these values get deleted every time.
Disable Small Camera Lights
Disable Large Camera Lights
Disable All Camera Lights

Know of any scene in game that uses the SmallCameraLights so I can check it out?
