It'd be nice to know what was changed. I don't speak German, and don't particularly feel like translating the whole site with google's help. Anyway, I looked at the interactive screens and the benchmark... I don't really see that much of an improvement to justify such a huge fps drop. Am I not seeing something ?
The increased LOD vegetation details and increased grass draw distance unfortunately for some reason drain a huge load of fps for what it does - no idea why there has to be such a huge fps impact :/ If you pay attention to those details, it surely is a nice visual improvement, but during regular gameplay, I doubt one will notice much. So I for one will use the PCGH config for screenshotting, but simply keep my vanilla settings for regular gameplay.
I'll update this soon, got the next update ready and will also upgrade the simplistic description. Anyways, foliage and (its) shadows are the big fps-killers, as they pretty much always are. If you compare these to images (open in new tab preferably and compare directly), you can spot the differences quite well. Check the foliage and its lighting in the distance, also check shadows and their details (horse for example).
First thing I'm gonna say is thanks. I've always loved gaming, and I've always liked mods - I'm kind of working with what I like now, leaving me less time with what I'd like to do. Which might sound somewhat strange, but is truthful to the last.
Anyways, I'm adding the files to the download-section (even though my boss would probably love thoses clicks), I also plan to get rid of the need of the user.config-file and add some improvements. I'd really like to wait for v1.05 though and I do have some other stuff to do.
I'll have another go at SweetFX too, but it might take some time...
I [strike]will[/strike] also intent to fix that obnoxious bug that'll reset your foliage-slider to low. Even if it did work from the beginning, if you couldn't tell
Any framerate-loss you might encounter while being on medium-settings (which are what previously was v1.04-ultra-settings), might come from that increased budget (and some more dynamic light-sources and stuff) which I added to the user.settings. That hopefully will be gone next time I might update.
Well, pretty nice mod but there's something sketchy. It says the vanilla ultra becomes "medium" in this mode. However, when I install the mod and set everything to medium, I notice a huge fps drop compared to vanilla ultra (Going from 50ish fps to ~30ish running on stock 980gtx). What's even weirder is increasing those settings to ultra doesnt change much, still around 30fps but the change does apply. I don't really understand what's going on here. Also the last option the mod add (Something about grass view distance, can't remember the exact name) remains on "low". Everytime I change it and when I come back to graphics menu it came back to low while the other options are saved correctly.
Hope to see some improvement on this mod as it is awesome
You absolutely have to customize the user.settings file after downloading/installing! For example, the PCGH config will set your game to German language and override your previous settings like display resolution, difficulty, controls and so on. So you will have to manually edit some settings back to your own config/liking.
A better solution is to simply copy the values of the file user.settings from the PCGH config under [Budget], [LevelOfDetail], [Rendering] and [Rendering/SpeedTree] into your own user.settings - that way none of your own settings will be overridden.
You can fix it with this mod and the ingame texture-slider in the options-menu.
It controlls the texture-level-of-details among some other things like AF and Texture-Budget. Low: Mip-Level 0.0; Medium: Mip-Level -0.4; High: Mip-Level -1.0; Ultra: Mip-Level -1.25
Medium/High should be fine, if you deactivate sharpening in the post-processing-options. Both have full 16:1 AF and standard budget (800 MB) or enhanced budget (1800 MB)
You can also edit rendering.xml and put say, the high or ultra settings to use standard (pre-patch) mip-maps (set TextureMipBias to 0.0).

EDIT: Just realized I uploaded the wrong picture here. Check this slider instead.
