I know this is an "old" file, but I just wanted to say that it works perfectly with Specular Maps too! I also wanted to let you (and anyone else who's interested) know that specular maps are compressed using DXT1, and only the diffuse and normal (I don't know about ambient) maps use DXT5.
does the mod kit tools mess up the d_01 maps as well when importing? Because if i use Gimp 2.8 to edit Geralt's face textures and save as a tga file then reimport it back into the game the modified textures show up fine and work. But if i use adobe photoshop cc to edit Geralt's face textures save it as a tga file the new modified textures do not show up in game.
.tga files work fine as long as is doesn't contain an alpha channel, like the normal maps do. dds files on the other hand always end screwed up with the modkit importer. Anyhow, that's what I've experienced along with a lot of other gamers.
Can this be done with diffuse maps as well? Might be a workaround for cases of botched uncooking/importing processes, when some texture files can't be exported or imported.
Never tried it before, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. But I understand you want to try this at .xbm files that aren't uncooked yet? I don't know if that is going to work, because I always did this with uncooked .xbm files.
I'm glad that someone finally figured that out. On the other hand hex editor isn't something easy to learn. It took me quite some time to get it to work when I started using it. Some of us will gladly use this but most will just skip it. I still hope that Red's will release better tools. (Sorry for my english.)
I know, unfortunatly the hex editing mehtod is the only one I can offer. I really don't have the knowledge to program a tool of my own, though there are who can.
