About this mod

Renamed and retextured all gwent cards of main story characters that should not be commonly known. And fixed more immersion breaking stuff.

There is a card game where United States, Russia, China and Al-Qaeda are playable factions. The leader cards of US are five copies of Washington with different illustrations, subtitles and abilities, and Putin for Russia, Mao for China, Osama bin Laden for Al-Qaeda. The unit cards are tanks, aircrafts, warships, military divisions, and named people who are either dead, retired or still active. There are also cards depicting named people who are not so famous but you happen to be familiar with - they are your friends, girlfriends, ex-girlfriends and rivals. There are even spy cards depicting people that, oddly enough, you happen to know them as active spies, making you wonder how their identities were leaked. The most powerful card depicts you, and everyone but you has a copy of it, but you don't recall anything you did that made people worship you to this degree, neither anyone recognize you to be the person depicted on the most powerful card.

There is a mod calls Immersive Gwent which handles this, but it doesn't update and remains unfinished, so I decided to make a mod of my own. I borrowed the mod name and some rename ideas, but by technical everything is done by myself and not even a file was taken from that mod.

The Re-skin Policy
All re-skins follow this policy. All new textures are either borrowed from Magic the Gathering or Gwent standalone game. See articles for detailed change list. I'm not a lore master so there might be errors and inproperities. You are welcome to point them out.
  • Main story relatives that are not commonly known should not have a card;
  • Nonhero cards should not represent a named person, while hero cards need not necessarily represent a named person;
  • Monster faction cards should not write more than the common folks know;
  • Leaders should not be five copies of a same character of different subtitles;
  • Cards need not necessarily reflect in-universe reality - fictions allowed.

I'm still curious if Scoia'tael is so commonly known, but since gwent is also played by Scoia'tael, it's nothing strange they provided necessary information to those who developped gwent to make a proper Scoia'tael faction.

The Translation
Supports English and Simplified Chinese.

Supports German in optional files. (by hoeness23) Check optional files instead of using the built-in one, it's not the latest.

If you wish to contribute a translation pack of another language, you can either upload a translation mod, or send me a private message. If it's a private message, avoid google drive if possible, because it's blocked from my country and I can't access it conveniently. You can also e-mail me with an attachment and you can have my e-mail address through private message.

The Rebalance
The main file contains only the re-skin thus compatible with any gwent rebalance mod, but such a mod might also re-skin vanilla cards, contain new cards that either contradict the re-skin policy or use the same picture as a re-skinned card, or buff/nerf a vanilla card based on the character it represents, which might no longer make sense after the re-skin.

This mod also has an optional light-weighted gwent rebalance version, which generally make hero cards more worthwhile and determinative, because it bothered me that they aren't so. Such as Vernon Roche (now known as Blue Stripes Commander) receives Muster - Blue Stripes Commando, becoming a functional equivalent of Cerys. It was meant to be personal, so it may not be entirely balanced, just in case you like it. See articles for detailed change list.

FAQ
Q: Some cards become incongruous, such as Keira Meiz now look like a ballista...
A: Provided you are playing with a supported language, you might have a mod that overwrites all vanilla texts and prevented this mod from altering gwent card related texts. To fix this, rename the mod folder into something like mod000ImmersiveGwentReRise to give it priority.

Q: The main file touches def_gwint_cards_final.xml despite you say it contains only re-skin.
A: Yes, but it comes with a reason. For unknown reason, non-dlc pictures can be overwritten properly, but dlc pictures can't. All entries referring to dlc alternative art must be removed from that file, or as long as the dlc is enabled, some neutral cards will become invisible. In the base version, nothing else in that file were touched, save for Mysterious Elf's card name reference. It should be able to be merged by script merger in ease.

Recent Updates
2021/4/4
  • Fixed Morteisen not being re-skinned.
  • Fixed Avallac being called Ninja when he is known as Mysterious Elf.
  • Wild Hunt Rider illustration background is now dark and light blue rather than red and orange, because the illustration is made for a gwent standalone card named Red Riders, which is how they are called by the dark elves, but humans don't know that, humans only know their black armor and white frost magic, which comes to a dark and light blue color scheme.
2021/4/17
  • Fixed "Draconid" being misspelt as "Draconoid".
  • Fringilla Vigo is no longer re-skinned, because the card title is specifically mentioned in game.
  • Letho is now re-skinned into King Slayer, a card dipicting an unnamed Viper school witcher, which is obviously based on Letho.
  • In the rebalanced version, Both Vigo and King Slayer are 10-Melee-Hero with Melee Scorch, leading the Nilfgaard to have five available hero cards.
