Yup, this is the problem for all those who aren't getting it to work. None of these will work with Hairworks enabled. You can start the game fine but you won't see the hair change until you turn hairworks off.
I'm not sure if it works but I think it's worth a try: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/2825 This mod disables hairwork for Geralt(hair and beard but I believe there's a mod only for the hair model)
I finally managed to get this mod working but the black hair doesn't seem to be a thing no matter what I do. there's a picture of a black version for this hair but no.....there isn't, every time I load it its just white with some black in the beard which is still mostly white. He tells you to download the mod that alters face textures, and then he also (LOL) tells you to download the mod that doesn't alter face textures lmao, what....?!?! an extra ten minutes or so of your time could easily prevent hours of trial and error for some people dude, I appreciate the mod but come on man, your instructions for black hair contradicts itself, so I literally have been trying to get this mod with black hair to work for hours meanwhile you could probably tell people like myself how to do it in seconds but your instructions just sucked too hard. god damnit
EDIT:
For black hair: there are two seperate files to download: - one that comes with textures of Geralt's face with black beard and hair - so it's obviously not compatible with other mods that alter Geralt's face texture. - one that contains only the hair geometry that's colored black - it's compatible with other mods that changes Geralt's face(such as young Geralt mod). (these are his instructions on the description page)
I can't be the only person to look at this with a weird face...right? I've tried using the first mod without and face changing textures, with no luck....and I've tried using the second mod with AND without face changing texture mods, with no luck...... I've also tried using both at the same time which I knew wouldn't work but funny enough, that's exactly what the instructions tell you to do in plain English Lol, with NO LUCK......HMMMMMMM, which leads me to believe....THAT THIS MOD NO LONGER WORKS, AND INSTEAD OF TELLING PEOPLE AND SAVING THEM HOURS OF THEIR TIME, he just said "eh screw it! they will figure it out". So thanks for the mod? I want to give it a good rating, but in good conscience, I can't, because it's not a good mod just from the pure frustration of trying to get it to work alone, not to mention the crappy instructions that do nothing to help the user.
Now I see what's the problem. You should download only one of the files that fits your needs(see updated description). "There are two seperate files to download" should've been "there are two versions". If I recall correctly the idea was to have two files, one for geometry and one for the textures but after testing it turned out it won't work properly, so I had to include the geometry as well with the textures. I'll fix the description.
On a side note: you had to test three cases: First installed, second installed, both of them installed. I'm sorry for your troubles really :D
If it still won't work PM me and we'll get to the bottom of it, I had comments on other mods as well that the mod won't show up in game for some people it's really curious
I got the white hair to work with the 1.0 version, but black hair is not a thing with this mod and he does not tell you this, which is just pathetic and lazy, its a wonder he came to make mods in the first place.
@FreelanceMascot - I changed the description so I hope now it will be clear how you can make it work with black hair. It's beyond me though that why it doesn't work with the "Black short hair with black hair and beard textures" as it contains all the files you need. I downloaded and tested both versions and worked fine on my game, cause I thought I messed up something. So yeah I guess I'm pathetic for making and bugtesting a mod for twentyodd hours to be shared for free... and mostly lazy.
It is done! There's two seperate files you can download: one that only contains the geometry and one that has Geralt's face textures with dark hair and beard embedded in 'em. For the black beard and eyebrows I suggest this mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/4730?tab=files
why are you saying that the black hair for this mod works when it doesn't? because of you I spent hours trying to make it black, when I could have avoided even trying if I didn't see your comment which made me think it was possible, WHEN IT IS NOT.
Well my friend, mine is working perfectly, if yours doesn't, I don't know what it can be, here it's black, as you can see, even an impression of my steam and from inside the game:
Sorry for the inconvenience, I saw some of you had trouble with installing the black version. I thought I messed something up so I tested myself and here's what I did: First I downloaded from the "Hair and Beard Equal Color No HW" package three files and my Black hair version with only the geometry inside it. The three files from "Hair and Beard Eqzal Color No HW": One for black hair, one for black eyebrows and one for black beard.
Now from what I understand the Black Hair mod replaces all the hairstyles to vanilla ones except for they're black, so it will automatically overwrite my mods hair models so that's a no go, make sure you don't have it installed. The other two go along with my mod nicely. You should install them, otherwise under my black hair model, the original face model's hair texture will show Geralts white scalp which looks wierd.
So in short what you'll need: Black beard: https://www.nexusmods.com/Core/Libs/Common/Widgets/ModRequirementsPopUp?id=37111&game_id=952 Black eyebrows: https://www.nexusmods.com/Core/Libs/Common/Widgets/ModRequirementsPopUp?id=37113&game_id=952 Short hair Black version only the Geometry: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/5497?tab=files&file_id=34703

Any chance of making black?
