It was kinda believable in the first game, with the whole "I got knocked stupid by supernatural forces and forgot almost everything herp". Totally okay for a world-renowned chef to know that you can probably eat a lionfish (prepared properly) while forgetting exactly which squishybits will kill you... y'know, if you hit said chef in the head hard enough.
But after an entire game of hunting down every book on nasties and crawlies, every book on plants, tomes of arcane knowledge and political histories and restoring huge amounts of memory, purchasing or stealing schematics for lots of new toys... bribing and questing and sexing for knowledge and justice, as the Wolf does... they make you do it ALL again in the second game. Suddenly Geralt is a clueless manchild again in the third game, for "gameplay" reasons as stupid as they were the second time.
Not to mention a whole second game, specifically trying to get your memories by, while hunting Letho. Then the time between the second and this one, spent almost entirely with Vesimir (aka Grandmaster Wolf) You'd think Geralt would have known s#*! by now.
Great fix, this is just a nonsense that you don't know basic recipes from the beginning. There are many contracts where some potions and bombs are essential, but recipes are scattered all around the world. Completely flawed system, just like levels for quests, you are greeted to Velen with level 33 contract while you are level 3 or 4. Fortunately there are mods to fix that too.
Although I didn't like that this mod unlocks bestiary entires, they are working the best when they are added when you encounter monsters. So I edited the file to add only basic recipes and nothing else.

the levels are the way they are because CDPR had to assume that some people will go to velene last.... with that said they should have done a better job with it. first and formost show levels before taking a contract and/or have an option to hide contracts that are too high level until you level up which will then make it more immersive then having to ignore a piece of paper on notice board for immersion sake until you level up because i dont want to take a contract and then walk around it for 50 hours... either that or make quest levels not only show themselves before you pick up a contract but also have a system in place which adjusts those quest levels to your level or closer to your level.
I noticed that the Nekker Warrior decoction recipe isn't added by this mod, unless it's just a weird thing on my game's part. If it affects anyone else, use the console command "additem('Recipe for Mutagen 25')" to get it.
Thanks for creating a great and necessary mod to the game, but is there a way to add only the oils and potions ? I already have a complete bestiary from Enhanced Edition.
Its funny to me to come across this mod because that was one thing I absolutely agree with you on i.e. why doesn't Geralt know jack about his own profession? And why do random merchants have recipes and diagrams for potions and oils and glyphs and rune-stones and crazy crossbow bolts that pretty much ONLY a witcher would know or have a use for? WHY? So to remedy this I used console commands to give myself ALL the recipes and schematics(not for armors since those have quests attached to them) and volumes 1 and 2 of all the monster books. No more finding recipes in the wilderness and saying, OH THANK GOD ITS BEEN IN THIS SUNKEN CHEST THIS WHOLE TIME!!! Forget that, witchers know how to witch. However now that I'm starting a new game that process is a LITTLE too involved I'm gonna try this mod.

Mods like this MUST happen, and I'm glad they do.
