I don't know what mod I have that makes this happen (or if it's still a problem with the base game), but I was just about to write this script myself, works like a charm.
Oh my god THANK YOU SO MUCH. I was driving myself crazy trying to reload saves, run around searching for the key or trying to find a console command for the correct key. No luck but this mod worked beautifully!
This is a life saver. Going through my 5th replay after 2 years, and couldn't open a cage because I killed some bandit too early in game. This helped fixed it.
can you fix the problem with the toussaint icons as well? For example, even if you have destroyed the slyzard's nest, it will still appear. There is also a monster chest where there is nothing ( still in toussaint )
Had Nitpicker installed and it still happened. My mod doesn't prevent the bug from happening, but it can be used when it's already to late. Nitpicker fixes visual bugs and doesn't even touch the scripts, so I can hardly imagine that it fixes this bug.
