Way over-due, but now that I had several independent 3rd party mod testers confirm DDS-only version of this mod works, I decided to upload it and link it - https://drive.google.com/file/d/10t9k7EKa-XaFqxQH17_QgsvrtdjHTgCV/view?usp=sharing . It includes all modded full quality Better Oaks DDS textures + some vanilla files with SRT files to make it Mod-Merger-friendly.

    To cook DDS vegetation:
    - Do not use any TGA or XBM files for vegetation assets if vanilla game (uncooked) does not have/use such XBM/TGA files for those assets
    - Copy your modded DDS files into appropriate directories in Uncooked folder
    - Copy all relevant SRT files files and place them in appropriate directories in Cooked folder
    - Create empty Modded folder
    - Cook with W3Oven

SRT files from the same directory are included only to create the bundle file that will allow uncooking of texture.cache. Without SRT files, you will get a stand-alone and fully functional texture.cache file, but it will not be merge-friendly or even be detected by Mod Merger due to lack of bundle files. Autumn mod was cooked like that and it took some tinkering to re-create that mod with vanilla files just to extract modded files from texture.cache in full quality (by replacing vanilla texture.cache with modded texture.cache). SRT files must come form the same directory as the modded DDS files.

Please credit CreatorGreg for this wonderful mod. At times I wait until it gets darker, pop up my torch or KNG Wisp or E3 Quen light source, find the most detailed oak tree I can and just walk around, looking at how the light plays along the detailed bumpy maps...

    Ok just pro tips
The main version of this mod, while looking very good, gives you shimmering trees. Download the optional one, the mergeable one, it works perfectly fine

Does it have proper Mip Maps?
I really like the look of the oak but i saw someone wrote that they had problems with the tree in distances.

    Thanks for a reply!

I can't download your optional file with nmm, only manually.

Well, the option is there. If NMM doesn't work, there is nothing I can do about it.

Great mod, I'm probably asking too much but, think oaks could be worked over further. You seem to know your stuff. Make them look real.?

Thank you! I actually thought about improving the textures further, but I quitted modding this game. It was just too time consuming and I have other, more important things to do. So there will not be any updates in future (probably).

More important thing? Did they release The Witcher 4? I hope you get back to it one day. Best game ever, still lots of people playing. If you know someone you could pass you knowledge on to, that could continue work that would be awesome too

Yeah, more important things in my life than playing witcher 3 :D There are a lot of people doing retextures, and a lot of tutorials on the internet, the forum and on nexus on how to do retextures. It's really not that complicated. My files are open for everyone to use, so if you want, improve them, upload them (and credit me). Maybe I'll come back, never say never. But as far as I can see, it won't happen in near time.

It works, kinda...the big tree from Velen has a fucked LOD after using this...it appears only when you are close to it.

I don't know how textures are related to LOD...

Show me on the screenshot where you see that issue. I've never encountered it.

      To answer other questions:
The size is smaller due to - 1. Lack of unnecessary files and 2. Compression (standard DXTA, no visible quality degradation)

And yes, by "LOD's" I meant Mip Maps, I should've worded the description more accurately.
