Sorry, haven't been around for a while. RL® keeping me away from videogames.
I've tested the latest uploaded version of the mod (1.22) with the latest official game update (1.31) and it works fine here. BUT... this doesn't necessarily means that it should work fine anywhere, SO... IF you still have troubles, please give a try Elliott564's version, based on 1.30's file(s).
I made a 100% correct update of this mod, based on v1.32/GOTY scripts. The update posted before in the thread is not correct as it missed some edits AND it's based on v1.22 scripts which DID CHANGE when the game got updated to v1.31/1.32/GOTY. All credits to original author Sunkid.
Still, this mod only allows Geralt to attack forward (where the camera points) so I strongly recommend using the (better) mod Enhanced Targeting for UPatch which is fully configurable.
I edited the 1.30 r4Player.ws with the changes marked with //DisableSoftLock and set SoftLock to False in the 1.30 combat.ws, I haven't played extensively with it, but it seems to be working.
I checked over your edits and compared them with the edits FoxHoundSWE (and later Sunkid) made, and rest assured to any readers who may be worried: Elliott564 got it right.
Updating script mods for new patch versions is really just a simple matter of copy-pasting all code preceding the //disablesoftlock comment (in this case, anyway) into the new patch's version of the file.
The other file in the mod, combat.ws, was not changed in the 1.30 or 1.31 patches, and thus doesn't require updating. Note that Elliott564's upload above still includes both files, even though only r4Player.ws needed any updating.
This just locks the attack going in one direction with the camera, straight ahead, you can only attack in one direction.
What I've been looking for is a way to get the effect you get when you blind Geralt with your own Samum bomb, when Geralt can actually attack in any direction without any locking on.
Sorry the "update" it's missing some edits, and also is based on v1.22 scripts wich are NOT equal to v1.32 scripts (few changes, but still changes). I will post a 100% correct v1.32/GOTY version of this mod in the thread.
This mod forces you to only attack in the direction of the camera, right? Is there a way to disable soft lock but get the freedom to aim in any direction? That would be great.
Thank you for this. The game is unplayable for me without disabling the ridiculous target locking. It is so intrusive and such a bad move. It totally kills the game for me.
Thanks a bunch to the author for all the work! It's a great mod and fixes a lot that's wrong with the combat. But... has anyone managed to make this work properly with Witcher 3 enhanced edition / w3ee? This is a better mod than W3EE in regards to camera, so I would like to use it with it, but I'm having trouble merging the mods properly. Thanks in advance, this is driving me nuts.
Hey! I found this mod to work perfectly in 1.31 alongside the rest of my mods, but I found that in combat I very often swing short when I think my attack should be landing. This is mainly due to the sprint-attack not traveling as far as I think it should. Boiling down to the question though - is there a value inside one of the two .ws files in your mod that I could change to make the sprint attack travel farther? Personally, I'd double the value as it would bring it closer to the main game, and bring it closer to what W3EE has (I'm not using W3EE because it just changes too much of the combat for me to enjoy/want to relearn)
I've done a bit of config editing in my pasty but doing a quick Ctrl+F search of "Sprint" or "Distance" doesn't show anything obvious to change.
My only problem is. When soft lock is active Geralt can jump forth with a longer ranged attack when the enemy is not that close to him. With soft lock disabled I can only attack at a fixed range. Is this supposed to work like this or am I stupid? AWESOME MOD!!
In order to do a longer ranged attack, you must have Geralt sprinting and then press to attack (he doesn't have to be at top speed. Just start sprinting and then click a light attack or heavy attack button). Once you do so, Geralt will cover more distance. Hope this helps.

All credits to FoxHoundSWE for creating the mod and Sunkid for keeping it up to date.
