Pressing 'B' or 'O' immediately exits dialogue no matter which option is highlighted. 'A' or 'X' still selects the highlighted option. By default, this button is unassigned in this context but is commonly used to back out of a menu. You can, however, choose any button or key you like.

I play with a gamepad and I always instinctively press 'circle' to back out of dialogue menus even though in the vanilla game it does nothing. With this mod the button now does what I expect in these menus. To clarify: B\O backs out of the menu without you having to select "farewell" or whatever; A\X still selects the option.
There's nothing to merge but you will need to add:
[Scene] IK_Pad_B_CIRCLE=(Action=DialogueExit)
to the top of your Documents\The Witcher 3\input.settings. You can replace "IK_Pad_B_CIRCLE" with whatever button/key you want just make sure to use the correct name.
If anyone previously downloaded it, copy/pasted the line and it didn't work, I forgot to capitalise the 'S' in scene, sorry.
