  • Rolling down-time this coming week on all sites

There is going to be some down-time on all Nexus sites and the forums this week as we work to move our databases over to our new cluster setup. Each site needs to be taken offline while a “dump” of the database can be created, transferred to the cluster and then imported in to the cluster database setup. The sites obviously have to go offline during this process so no new content is lost between the time when we make the dump and the time until the import process is fully completed.

  • Unique download stats fix with NMM downloads

We came across a bug today that meant when users downloaded files through NMM the download was not being counted as a “Unique download” but it did add to the “Total downloads” counter. For those who don’t know, unique downloads are counted once per user, per file, per page. So if you download the same file 10 times it adds 10 to the total downloads counter but only 1 to the unique downloads counter. It’s a more accurate way of seeing the true number of unique individuals who have dow...

  • Obsidian commit to mod support and the Nexus for Project Eternity

If you haven’t got your head close to the ground when it comes to gaming news you might not know that RPG developers Obsidian, famous for Fallout New Vegas, Neverwinter Nights 2 and Knights of the Old Republic 2, have been raising funds via Kickstarter for a completely new IP they’ve dubbed Project Eternity.

Project Eternity is an isometric, party-based RPG much akin to some of the best RPGs ever made such as Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale and Planescape Torment. If you liked th...

  • Site upgrade and changes

If you caught us during our down-time, welcome back, if you’ve just come on and don’t know what’s going on, then..hello! Over the past few months we’ve been beta testing the new site code I’ve been talking about for yonks now. We went in to open beta a few weeks ago where we provided a test site for willing users to help us root out any bugs in the sites before we went live. I first of all want to say a big thank you to those of you who took time out of your internet schedules to he...

  • Dragon Age II pulled from Steam and new DLC is released.

For 800 MS Points you can now get the latest Dragon Age II DLC. However it also appears Dragon Age II has been pulled from Steam. There is speculation the game was pulled due to the new Legacy DLC which apparently infringes on Steam's policies. No details on the exact policy that is broken has been mentioned to the public. Word from EA and Bioware on the new DLC is "Targeted by a vicious criminal cartel that are hunting you must put an end to their relentless attacks. Leave Kirkwall, and jou...

  • Top list filters by Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2

Hello fellow Dragon Age modders and mod users. As you know I have refrained from releasing a separate site for Dragon Age 2 until BioWare release a tool set for the game. If they release a tool set for the game. This however hasn't stopped many modders from working on mods anyway as there are currently more than 500 available for download right now. In an effort to help reduce the confusion between the two games being on one site I've modified the Top 100 scripts on the site. There are now fi...

  • Dragon Age modding competition update

200,000 new members have registered since my initial modding competition announcement and there's a further 300,000 to go until the competition deadline ends. In my announcement I mentioned that the Dragon Age competition might be moved over to Dragon Age 2 depending on the availability of a toolset. As no toolset has been released for Dragon Age 2 and no toolset fix has been made available so that the original toolset can work with Dragon Age 2 I can officially confirm that the Dragon Age mo...

  • Dragon Age 2 mod categories and forums

With the launch of Dragon Age 2 yesterday in the US and some other parts of the world I have added a new set of categories for Dragon Age 2 for any mod authors to upload their files to. Bioware, in what may seem like a bit of a middle-finger to the PC players of the game, are still yet to give any official news on a toolset for the game. I certainly haven't heard anything official one way or the other. Having said that I know there are some very talented people in the community who will be able ...

  • Next New Vegas DLC: Honest Hearts

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/imageshare/images/thumbnails/2383757-1298598525.png The Fallout:New Vegas add-on Dead Money was released for the PC and PS3 February 22nd. In-game graffiti in New Vegas hinted at Dead Money, and now people have found a new hint in Dead Money's BSA archives. Players found the NVDLC02 snowglobe, named Zion National Park, shortly after Dead Money was released. Zion National Park is located in southwestern Utah, implying that the next DLC will be in New Canaan, Utah. ...

  • New Vegas released in Europe

Fallout New Vegas has now been released in the UK and the rest of Europe and this rounds up the launch of New Vegas to the masses. New Vegas Nexus is already up to 212 files as of writing, which is a great start, and adding the European's to the mix should increase the rate at which this number increases. Demand for mods is particularly high with some 100,000 individuals visiting the site yesterday looking at 1.17 million pages on the site. This figure is already on course to be smashed to...

  • New Vegas, meet mods, mods, meet New Vegas

The Fallout: New Vegas GECK has now been released on the Bethesda website that officially launches the modding scene for New Vegas. Irrespective of the similarities of the New Vegas GECK with the Fallout 3 GECK a big thank you is in order to Bethesda and Obsidian for releasing the GECK on launch day for everyone to use. Remember modding using an official SDK from the developers isn't a right, it's a priviledge handed down from the developers. They don't have to do it and they take time out of th...

  • Reminder About Sites/Mods Which Contain Illegal Rips/Conversions/Translations

I'm not going to say which sites are not allowed since that would defeat the purpose, however recently there have been a number of mod uploads/links to a certain site which contains ripped/converted/translated content for DA. Any mentioning, linking, referencing to this site and others like it will result in a ban. Before uploading mods, linking mods, or mentioning mods, you should make an attempt to ensure that the site is reputable and does not contain any illegal content.

  • Something "cool" coming tomorrow

Fans of Dragon Age: Origin on Facebook might have noticed that at around midnight GMT the admin of the page had this to say "If I was a fan of Dragon Age: Origins, I'd be keeping my eye open for something cool coming tomorrow. Just saying.". What could it be? Keep your eyes peeled and let me know if you find anything....

  • Day one in numbers

So Dragon Age Nexus has been launched just over 24 hours now and I'm really pleased with the response from the community. Many users on many different forums have expressed their positive opinions on the matter, and some their negative ;) and it has all come together nicely. To paint a picture of the first day in stats: 21 files 3,700 downloads 15,000 unique visitors 100,000 page views Impressive stats for a site that's only a day old :) I want to thank all the authors who have take...

  • Modding competition winners announcement

It's now been quite a while since the close of the Millionth Member Competition for Fallout 3 Nexus. While the competition blurb stated that the judging would be done by myself and a panel of judges I decided a while ago that I wanted to do it myself; several authors spent a lot of time to create community mods for Fallout 3 Nexus that I really wanted to play through thoroughly myself and give them the time and attention they deserved. First of all let me say it was a real pleasure and an hon...

  • Yet another "we're banning you because you can't read" news post

I'm still getting reports almost daily in my inbox about people thinking they've been banned unfairly for rating down mods, leaving abusive and unconstructive comments or just generally being a nuisance. There are numerous warnings posted on the site and available within the terms and conditions that everyone has to agree to before they can post or make ratings on the site and I'm begrudgingly taking the time out of doing other more productive things, like adding new features to the site, to wri...

  • Server updates in the pipe, possible down-time and desynch of information

As mentioned in my previous news post the Nexus servers have been under increased processing strain after traffic spiked following the release of the Fallout 3 SDK. The situation is a little more complicated than simply throwing more money at it due to the complex way in which the three sites; TESNexus, FO3Nexus and the forums communicate and share data with each other via a central database system. Today I have updated the databased infastructure on the two web servers to use a new duplicati...

  • Slow site and fixes coming soon!

Just wanted to let you all know that I am aware that Fallout 3 Nexus is running a little bit slow/hitting errors at the moment. Traffic on the site has hit all time highs of over 70,000 unique visitors and over 600,000 page views daily. Or in other words, 7 page views every second, and the servers are trying hard to cope. I'll be working on fixes over the next 48 hours that will hopefully not require any down-time but in the mean time please bare with me while I work through the hordes desper...
