Hey, I'm really glad somebody took time to make a balance mod. All you see these days is people making the game even easier with stuff like "mutagen slot for every ability." I was really bummed by how easy the game became by the middle of Act 1. I won't be replaying it for a bit, at least until new content comes, but just wanted to offer some suggestions:
- don't alter initial difficulty, I think it's almost balanced in the beginning (still on the easy side) once you learn the tricks of combat.
- quen definitely needs to be majorly nerfed. The only concern I have is boss fights vs regular fights difficulty. I can see harder bosses (such as kayan) become almost too random if quen is nerfed too much. But for the trash mob packs I almost feel that quen shouldn't even be there. (hmm, now that I think of it, would it be possible to trade quen for some better health regen in combat?)
- one thing that definitely upset me was how slow human npcs reacted to your rolls. It would be a good idea to experiment with improving their reaction times, eg when you roll behind their backs, make them react quicker, instead of facing away from you for 5 seconds and letting you slice them to pieces.
- overall, roll mechanics are too powerful. Perhaps nerf the roll talent somewhat? Again though, rolls are essential to surviving harder bosses, so that would require some major testing.
- another thing that is overpowered: bombs. the fact that you can clear any trash pack with a few bombs that are essentially too easy to make removes the major part of the combat challenge. Would it be possible to introduce a cooldown to throw them? Like, say, 5-10 seconds?
Overall, really excited to see your mod and will try it next time I play the game. Witcher 1 with FCR was one of the best RPGs I've ever played, and I think W2 has the potential to be that with the right combat balance mod.
