Rewrite English text of The Witcher Trilogy Games:
Why? Because I love the books but the English editions (GollancZ) is quite different to the games. I wish the text is more book-friendly and respect the translation provided by Danusia Stok and David French.
The Let'Re is a very useful ressource to discover more meaning behind the game, or see how CDPR made it in the very first time.
Of course, because it was their first times. The original English translation is not perfect and might confuse everyone. Let me share your feedback about The Let're: typo, incorrect translation, oddly dialogue, changed meaning, etc... Anything that may help me on my project.
Don't know if it's this is the right place to ask this question. But since I've been interested in trying to fix the italian localization of the games (emphasis on "trying"), I might as well. To this day, are there any other tools I could use to edit .dlg fils aside from D'jinni? I ask because the D'jinni's "find" tool doesn't seem to work sometimes and I would need that to look search the dialogues for common translation mistakes. Thanks
Thanks for your advice. I finally managed to go through all the .dlg files and fixed those that had mistakes in my localization. Now, to properly add my modifications to the game, do I have to just drag all those files in the Override folder, or can I creata a sub-folder?
It doesn't matter how you put in the Overrride folder. It can be all files in an unorganised way, or in a single folder named after the mod title. I do suggest the latter for managing.
Thanks for your help. I followed your instructions and today I finally started the game and it worked. One last question though: are you aware if there is a way to edit Dandelion's "narration crawl texts" or if there's something that won't allow it? I ask because I tried to edit the one that plays in the intro (which says it's been five years since the war and all that) with djinni, but the text didn't change in the game. I Also tried to look for one that narrates Geralt going to Vizima but I can't even find it.
Hey there, not sure if you're still active. I noticed that once you try to read Ain Soph Aur, it shows the contents for The Secret Gates. I tried to edit it (it_scroll_009.uti) in Djinni but it won't let me change from FinalEnglish_Short to FinalEnglish. Any idea what's causing this and how to overcome it?
Also, what's the update on your secret big project :p
Ouf. That was a long time no one write a reply here. I'll see for the it_scroll_009.uti if I didn't make a mistake. It's probably what was the description in the old English localisation.
For the project, it has been resumed since I have a big "To do" for The Witcher 3.
Okay I check, it's because they accidently put "The Secret Gates" description in the old localisation. So I suggest to remove "it_scroll_009.uti", as it's a mistake of them. Thanks for finding it.
I had no idea about that, i thought that every version was just like polish. I was wondering tho how some of senctences spoken in polish were transleted to other language. I guess they were not or changed so much that it also changed context.
CDPR shortened the English language version for the original release in 2007. As some other localizations were made from that, they also had cut dialogue. With the Enhanced Edition, many dialogues were re-recorded and lengthened again.
As you compared the original Polish, FinalEnglish and FinalEnglish_Short, how much longer/more detailed are the dialogues in FinalEnglish compared to what we got after EE?
You are right that Enhanced Editions redone many dialogues in a better way.
I do notice some FinalEnglish and FinalEnglish_Short are similar or exactly the same. So I presume CDPR take some FinalEnglish text for the EE version. Nonetheless, they didn't take all the FinalEnglish version. I can tell you this version is much more longuer than FinalEnglish_Short.
No... that's the thing. All other language beside Polish are directly translating to the vanilla English. So only Polish, and this Mod, add the original text during their development process.
That would be nice if someone translate it but this will be very laborious.

I hope this "mod" gain more attention :)

Any chance you might ask him about it when you are able?
Now I feel silly. :P
Great job!
That's why I recommend to play in Polish if you use the Dialogue Main File.

I wish you the absolute best
