Description
This turns drowners and drowned dead from hostile to neutral, meaning they'll no longer attack you or trigger combat mode unless provoked.

As we all know, TW1 throws a lot of drowners at you as sword fodder, and they quickly become a nuisance. I made this because I was sick to death of drowners by the end of the game, and also disappointed in the drowner-repelling ribbon - even though drowners run away from you, you still enter combat mode, which can make entering new areas difficult. So you have to kill the drowners anyway... which is harder when they're running away from you.


Installation
Drop the files into your Override folder.

Your Override folder should be located in [Your Witcher Install Directory] > Data. If you don't have an Override folder, you can just create one.

If you load a save that:
  • Did not have Neutral Drowners installed at the time of saving; and
  • The area has already spawned or could spawn drowners,
then you need to exit and re-enter the area for the mod to take effect.


Notes
  • This does not affect quest-related drowners. Drowners you're tasked with killing in Strangers in the Night, Safe Haven, Clay Pits, A Long Way from Home, and Old Habits Die Hard will still be hostile.
  • Drowner bosses Nadir and Zephyr are also still hostile.
  • Drowners will still fight back if you attack them, and attacking one drowner in the vicinity of others will aggro the whole group.
  • This mod also includes two files for bloedzuigers (of_bloed.utc and 25_rs_bloed201.utc) that remove their "affiliation" with drowners. Otherwise, a (hostile) bloedzuiger catching sight of you would automatically aggro every drowner nearby, making the mod effectively useless in crowded areas like the swamps.


Optional Download: Neutral Bloedzuigers
  • I've also included an optional download to make bloedzuigers neutral too. Just replace of_bloed.utc and 25_rs_bloed201.utc from the main download with the files from the optional download instead.
  • 25_rs_bloed201.utc only affects the bloedzuigers on the little island that you visit for the quest The Ring. If you want these to remain hostile, just leave this file out.


Known Issues
  • Drowners at the Dike are still hostile, as for some reason they use the same files as the Strangers in the Night drowners. Luckily, there are only a couple of drowners at the Dike, so they're not too annoying.
  • When some drowners (and neutral bloedzuigers too, if you're using that) spawn in at a distance, they T-pose or freeze in position until you attack them or give them a nudge. This seems to be vanilla behaviour that's just more noticeable when monsters aren't instantly running towards you.


Known Conflicts
  • Drowners are Necrophages...so are Devourers If you'd like to use both mods at the same time, the only download you need is "Drowners are Necrophages Patch" in Optional Downloads. Place the files in your Override folder and overwrite if prompted. (Thanks to BlickJustice for permission!)
  • Full Combat Rebalance (FCR) If you have FCR then you probably don't need this mod, as I believe FCR reduces the number of drowners in the game, but leave a comment if it's an issue for you.
  • Anything else that modifies the basic drowner and bloedzuiger templates. Let me know if another mod conflicts with this one and I can probably make a patch for you if the mod author permits.
