About this mod

This Reshade preset is trying to better the blurry image in a performancefriendly way with some color corrections and AMDs CAS.fx sharpener.

I was quiet uncomfortable with the blurry image, especially when moving/looking around and it turns out ReShade was the most performancefriendly way to better it. Once i added ReShade to the game for sharpening, i also tried different LUTs as the filters of the ingame photomode gave me the impression there was room for better colors, i didn't like the reddish tint in the clouds and in the far away forests.

After i found a nice LUT I then tinkered it a bit using the lightroom.fx to make the colors vibrant while yet retaining a natural look. I did my best to not ruin the lighting and maintain visibility in all areas, be it outside in the sun or in the dark woods or at night or when using the hunter's instinct. Because of the greater clarity, it's actually easier to see at night. The performance impact on my system is around 2-5fps.

To install it:
-Unzip and place the wothreshade.ini in the following folder of your installed game:
\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\WayOfTheHunter\WayOfTheHunter\Binaries\Win64

-Download ReShade from the official site: https://reshade.me/

-Run the ReShade Installer and select the game by browsing for the game exe (same folder as above) and select DirectX 11/12. When it comes to selecting effects, select wothreshade.ini at the bottom of the installer. This way the installer downloads only those effects used.

-Once you installed ReShade, start the game, press Pos1/Home to open the ReShade overlay and skip the tutorial.
The effects used should then show up and have a checked box in front of them.
You then can also hit the performance mode box at the bottom of that tab.

-If you map a key to toggle effects under the options tab, you can see the difference yourself. Press Pos1/Home
again to close the ReShade Overlay.

-In the graphic settings of the game set the sharpening to 0 as ReShade now does the job!

Unfortunately, the game will always be a little blurry for some sensitive eyes as it is only rendered at a lower resolution and then upscaled, it is never rendered at the native resolution of the screen. But not everyone seems to notice this. However, this is the reason why the graphics become so pixelated when you turn off AA or switch to FXAA and don't use a temporary AA technique like TAA or DLSS. If you're interested, this thread on reddit discusses the issue:

The best way would be to force native resolution via a tool called "Universal Unreal Engine 4 Unlocker", but this also tanks performance. You can find a guide in the steam forums of the game!
