Update: User LyraeCursorius made an update for this this mod that works with the current game version! Just check the thread below.
--------
Hello everyone, unfortunately the latest game update broke my mods. It shouldn't be too hard to fix with AssetBundleExtractor, but currently I have no time available to do it myself.
Anyone feel free do make an updated version, I only ask that you credit me in your description/readme if you're using my modified textures/files, or if they're useful in any other way.
Again, sorry for not being able to update it myself.
The assets are in VRising\VRising_Data\StreamingAssets\ContentArchives. github.com/zhangjiequan/AssetStudio works for browsing and finding the archive that contains the assets you want to change. The sixth release of UABEA works for editing. The seventh release is unstable.
I would love to make patch for the new Unity build but I can't for the life of me pull out your original assets from the .emip nor .exe. Do you have them stored somewhere that's accessible to the public? If not, could you please?
Bloodmoon (No Stand-up Collar) is filename Alt 2 or Alt 1? Alt 2 seems to remove more collar?
Dawnthorn (No Stand-up Collar) is filename Alt 2 or Alt 1? Alt 2 seems to remove more clothing?
Your Alt 2 edit of Merciless Nightstalker with the shorter jacket is cute but not uploaded here, only Alt 1?
Thought this a mistake but you're right: Nightstalker set breaks naming convention; merciless is indeed 01 instead of 02. This kills me inside.
All armor is now stored within b2f35358da120c04c92b9256f40d76ce.0.bundle / CAB-7dc14dfefed8f8099158015e587f2047 VampireFemale_BoneGear01_bc-CAB-7dc14dfefed8f8099158015e587f2047-4968309700752258172 VampireFemale_BoneGear02_bc-CAB-7dc14dfefed8f8099158015e587f2047--3052487579394411619 VampireMale_DawnThorn01_bc-CAB-7dc14dfefed8f8099158015e587f2047-4448115837332933699 VampireMale_Hollowfang01_bc-CAB-7dc14dfefed8f8099158015e587f2047-1270181885772727930 VampireMale_Hollowfang02_bc-CAB-7dc14dfefed8f8099158015e587f2047-5165671454314532905 VampireMale_Nightstalker01_bc-CAB-7dc14dfefed8f8099158015e587f2047--3896260209073710621 VampireMale_Nightstalker02_bc-CAB-7dc14dfefed8f8099158015e587f2047-4782075189407743062 VampireMale_Shadowmoon01_bc-CAB-7dc14dfefed8f8099158015e587f2047--8342750334854040331
† I'm not expecting you to solve the snag, rather just documenting it for public purposes
Any attempt to import the images degrades their quality dramatically. I've attempted with the provided TGA files, the TGA files converted into PNG, 16-bit and 32-bit precision modes, DXT1 and DXT5 compression. Still jpeg-meme levels of blockyness.
Attempting to import the images as DXT1 (default for some textures) loses the alpha channel, so DXT5 must be used.
Hey, thank you very much for all that info and for researching this.
Bloodmoon: Considering that the Alt 2 version edits look exactly like all the other recolored options, I believe that's the version I ended up using for this mod.
Dawnthorn: Alt 1 keeps the little black "v" things on the neck, Alt 2 removes those. I prefer Alt 1, but I think both look good. That's just personal preference and you might prefer the armor without those. This mod uses Alt 1.
Merciless Nightstalker: You are correct. I made both versions, but in the end I wanted to differentiate the Merciless version from the normal one, so I only removed the long coat for one of them, for this mod.
I honestly had forgotten about these little edits. Interesting to see someone else diving into my work and possibly doing things differently than I did. =)
"Nightstalker set breaks naming convention" Yeah, that bothered me too lol
I never had any noticeable loss in quality when re-packing the .tga files back into the game, as you can see from the images. Sad to see that apparently something changed with the game or tools, and now you get that. I don't know what could be done, but since I still have the Photoshop project files, I could save both the RGB and Alpha channels as lossless PNG, for each texture. Maybe you can edit those instead, and then export for the game's format, and then maybe that gives you better final quality? Not sure. But in case that helps, here you go: https://www.nexusmods.com/vrising/mods/12?tab=files&file_id=35 (I added the PNGs as an Optional File to that mod's page).
have you made any progress with this? x) I know I shouldn't be saying this but I'm honestly just waiting for these stuff to come out so I can hop into the game again since the server I was playing just wiped out :x
Tomorrow I can probably spin something together. UABEA can create emip patches but not the easier to run exe patches which means the installation will need a second step (using UABEA to apply the patch).
If there's a specific skin you'd like I can knock it out in just a few minutes today. But tomorrow I'll try to release the full package along with notes of what I had to do differently, and what the new installation steps are.
Good news: I've finished sorting and converting the textures into the new names/IDs. Zipped up and ready to be used.
Bad news: UABEA does not support creating .emip patches for Unity .bundle files yet. This means any changes would need to be applied manually which is not a beginner friendly process.
You will need my Alt Armor Looks update - extract it somewhere easy to access. These contain human-readable armor filenames.
Menu File -> Open and select this file from within your VRising installation: VRising\VRising_Data\StreamingAssets\SubScenes\b2f35358da120c04c92b9256f40d76ce.0.bundle
When asked, click the button which says Memory
Click the bottom-right button which says Info
Menu View -> Search by name and in the Name field, paste the ID of the armor you want to replace then click Ok. See below for the list of armor IDs
On the right-hand side, click the button which says Plugins, then select Edit texture and click Ok
Set Texture format to BC7. Near the bottom, to the right of Texture, click Load.
Select your preferred texture from extracted armor update then click Ok
Click Save
Repeat steps 5 through 9 for each armor you would like to replace. This is not required since you can return in the future to make additional changes. Note: If it can not find the name, change the Direction in the search window.
Menu File -> Save and click OK when prompted.
Menu File -> Close and you should be left with only the original, small, UABEA window.
Technical notes: technical.7z contains more detailed information regarding method used, important original filenames, and a few other bits that no one will have interest in except StampDD. BC7 formatting is used during UABEA import to avoid image quality loss, since UABEA doesn't apply dithering to DX5. TGA import formats are frowned upon by UABE and UABEA for reasons. Made use of Stamp's Edited Textures (modders resources) ; specifically the optional file: Stamp's Alt Armor Looks (png). I take no credit for any of this. I want no credit for any of the above research. This is someone else's problem now.
Hey, first I'd like to thank you and the author of the mod for all the work you've done here, but I'm afraid I ran into an issue. I tried to do the process to replace the Bloodmoon armor, and everything was fine until step 7. When I press on the plugins button a window pops up, but there is no option to edit texture. The window is just blank.
What could be causing this?
EDIT(PROBLEM SOLVED):
Okay, after some headscratchers, I've found the problem. VampireMale_Shadowmoon01 is a Material file, which I couldn't edit. After some digging around, I've found VampireMale_Shadowmoon01_bc, which is a Texture2D file, which I could edit. After finding it and proceeding from step 7, everything went smoothly. I've checked in game and am pleased to report my vampire doesn't look like a clown anymore.
Thanks again to you and the author for making this possible. I'll go and enjoy my vampire's new drip. :)
Hey, just saw this and went straight to test it out. First of all thank you for doing this I just tried to change both boneguard and both hollowfang armors, and maybe I screwed something up in the process. Boneguard armors look perfect, but the hollowfang ones have some clipping issues, I can see the skin in several places (more so when moving), also the right arm in the merciless version is full of holes for some reason. Gonna do the whole process again when I get back home later today, if it fixes anything I'll let you know that too :3 all & all I'm really glad, I think this game deserves a modding scene
LyraeCursorius: Thank you very much for your work. You should make a mod page so people can find this info easier.
oxisp: That's weird. I checked the texture files and they look good. If you could post some screenshots of the issue maybe I could help, but I'm not sure because, as I said, the texture files look good and that's all I could help with really.
Dunno if it'll help you, but I've found that keeping Merciless's texture format as DXT1 instead pf changing it prevents it from looking all screwed up.
Edit: Well, maybe. The other thing that may have fixed it is that I've restored the collar on the Merciless version by extracting the game's original textures using USBEA to modify them to my liking. This whole comment chain has effectively taught me how to do my own V Rising retextures. Well, at least until a new patch messes it up again, lol.
If you want to try this, you can do it by following LyraeCursorius's guide to Step 7 and then instead of picking Edit Texture, pick Extract Texture. From then on you can modify it to your liking with a program like GIMP, for example. After you're done just keep following the guide from Step 7, but replace the original texture with your own, instead.
Well I'm just trying now, wasn't able to do so last night.. I did all the process again, also tried keeping it as DXT1 and it's the same thing. I don't think it's a problem with the texture itself but theres def something going on in here lol https://ibb.co/d7ZwdDk
EDIT: Well I tried all of the hollowfang textures (included the merciless) and they all look the exact same, so I'm pretty sure I screwed something up, is there any way to set it back to "default" so I can test it again from scratch? lol
You should have made a backup of your b2f35358da120c04c92b9256f40d76ce.0.bundle file before doing anything with it. As far as I know, the only way to reset everything to vanilla is to replace the modified .bundle file with your backup, or to do "Verify integrity of game files" on Steam.
LyraeCurorius and StampDD, YOU ARE AWESOME!!! I loved this mod when it was first released, and Lyrae, I found your instructions very easy to follow and they worked perfectly. WOO HOO!!
How did you guys/gals/folks figure out which .bundle file the armor was in? I was trying to see if I could employ Lyrae's method to swap the wolf form texture, but it doesn't appear to be in the same .bundle file it was prior to the game update. I considered going through them one-by-one using the UABE tool, but there appear to be 2000+ .bundle files!
If the technique is too complex to explain or requires special tools, don't worry about it, not that big of a deal, just figured I'd ask in case it was something simple 😊 Please tell me you didn't actually go through all 2000+ .bundle files manually... 🥴
Stamp's Edited Textures (modders resources) contain his modified files but also the original files as named by the game in PNG format. Alt Wolf Form\Original\CreatureDirewolf_Vampire01_bc-CAB_b0e91e468f99d9af4ab32bc9a0979a34-3289456680241811292.png
Texture filename: CreatureDirewolf_Vampire01_bc CAB file: CAB_b0e91e468f99d9af4ab32bc9a0979a34 File ID number: 3289456680241811292
The only one that matters is for you is CreatureDirewolf_Vampire01_bc.
This will not be a comprehensive guide but here's an introductory gist: There's a few ways to browse Unity files but AssetStudio makes it fast and simple. AssetStudio.net6.v0.16.47.zip will work just fine, but AssetStudio.net472.v0.16.47.zip if you have issues.
Menu File -> Load folder
Choose the folder VRising\VRising_Data\ and allow it to load.
Up top, click the Assets tab
Menu Filter Type -> Texture2D
Then search for CreatureDirewolf_Vampire01_bc and the result will show ddfc6a4db4009e2448b8f8b6f0965b8f.293.bundle in the Container column.
This is also how I find textures without knowing the original name. Maybe I'd have searched wolf. Maybe I'd have sorted by Size. You'll figure out mental methods as you become more familiar.
Making a separate message to apologize to StampDD for extending this conversation thread for far more than originally intended. I consider people informed enough at this point that I'll leave everyone to their own devices now. Any content, tutorial, or wording I've used throughout may be reused and repurposed without credit or concern. Go forth, learn and teach.
Tyvm for this! I used the bundle extractor to switch some of the game objects around. I really dislike the bloodmoon set, so I used the extractor to swap the mesh with other bits. Made it a mish-mash of dawnthorn and plated boneguard.
I managed to replace the texture and material of bloodmoon with boneguard, but the mesh is bloodmoon so it looks wrong... my plan was to replace the bloodmoon set with either a mix of dawnthorn and (plated) boneguard or full boneguard.
hmmmm no updates on this? this is really amazing tho! just good alternatives for female outfits. the current outfits doesn't look feminine at all, just in my opinion (-_-) zzZ
I tried following the guides to update ourselves the mod but be it UABEA, AssetStudio or AssetBundleExtractor none works... Looks like devs changed every file since .bundle files don't even exist anymore, it's entities now
Thanks for letting me know. But the link was just a direct link to one of his messaged in the pinned thread. Apparently you can't do that anymore, here.
Ive followed all the steps to install the new textures but when i load into the game, nothing has changed. So i go back into UABEA and check the files and they had all been defaulted back to their original state. Im at a loss as to whats going on here and any help would be appreciated. Id also like to apologize for bringing this thread from the dead.
