This mod is so old I've thought about completely redoing it, as I have lots of ideas for improvements. I'm afraid I'm no good with models, so I couldn't manage a really different hairstyle or anything like that. :) Unfortunately, I'm honestly not sure when I could get to this.
I’ve been thinking about this and wondering how you altered the skin? I’ve been trying to make a male malkivain reskin and I can’t figure it. out maybe I’m missing something? but I figured I’d ask cause I really like this skin, and you seem to know what you’re doing.
Hey! I'm happy to help, if I can! Have you got any specific questions? Here's a quick rundown of how to start, assuming you know nothing at all:
You need the SDK or at least a couple of tools, the most basic necessities of which I believe are still included with the Unofficial Patch (choose the tools and extras as an option when installing!)
Of those, you need the VPK Tool to start with. It will find and extract the files you need, if you don't have them already. The Packfile explorer makes it even easier to search for what you need so you know which vpk to open and extract from using the VPK Tool.
The VPK Tool will also convert your texture files so you can work with them, but frankly it's clunky as hell. I much prefer the variety of tools provided by the SDK, which are:
VTF Edit Tool
Texture converter (this and the model viewer are my most used tools)
TTZ/TTH viewer
Model viewer
The texture converter allows you to quickly and easily convert a ttz to a targa (tga), which you can then work with however you wish (I use a janky old version of Photoshop, but it works for me!). You then, of course, have to convert it back to a ttz (the tth will convert itself accordingly) in order to use it in-game.
The only downside to the texture converter is that several versions ago it stopped allowing you to right-click the thumbnail and convert the file (some people who complained of this said it worked again after an update, but that did not work for me; I haven't yet used latest version, so hopefully it has been fixed for sure by now!). I keep a shortcut on my desktop, save my tga to the desktop, then drag 'em over to the texture converter. You have to wait a little when you're working with a larger file size.
The SDK's Model viewer is INVALUABLE. Many years ago I used to work as much as I could, then install the skin, start up the game, load a save where I could examine the skin and see how it was looking. With the viewer, I just load up the model! You have to work from a copied file with the models in the right folders, just as if you've installed the texture mod to, say, your desktop.
Let me know if you needed different information or if the above is confusing and you need clarification! I'm somewhat pressed for time, so I rushed this a little. I'll try to make whatever I can as clear as possible. Additionally, the Planet Vampire forums have a *lot* of help for beginners to modders, if you feel inclined to check it out! Here's the modding board.
Just tested it myself, and I'm guessing you followed my instructions and installed it into Vampire, which means it's my fault, not yours. The Clan Quest mod made changes to the Ventrue male, which means you need to overwrite it by installing it into the folder CQM rather than Vampire. You can just rename the folder of the mod and reinstall! Feel free to come back if there's another problem, of course.
Don't worry about it! I'm glad you like it, and I hope this works for you. As far as I know, you should be able to install this mod into the Vampire folder of your game, BUT just in case the latest Unofficial Patch has changed any character models or textures, you should do the following:
1. Open the mod's Vampire folder 2. Copy the materials folder 3. Paste that folder into the Unofficial_Patch folder of your game (and overwrite)
Let me know if this doesn't work or you need things explained a different way. Otherwise, please enjoy the mod!
Thank you! It's my pleasure :) Do you mean a goth look for each clan? I'm not sure about EVERY clan, but I've got some ideas, like making the female Toreador look like the goth girl NPC in VtM: Redemption.
