I am downloading mods using Vortex, and so far, none of the .dll files have made it into the BepInEx/plugins. I have been re-downloading the mods manually and doing manual extracts. Am I missing a Vortex setting or something?
This question would better be asked in the Vortex extension support forum for this game (it's a Vortex game extension issue, not a mod or even game issue), but I'll answer it where it is.
Double-click in the Name column of a mod, and it will open a little-known details pane at the right margin. You will find a field titled Mod Type, and it's probably empty. That field defines game-specific mod types that dictate where and how a mod is installed. For me, most or all of my Valheim mods are BepInEx DLL mods, but that field is empty for nearly all of them, as if in September 2023 Vortex "just knows" what to do with each of them. The few that do have that field populated with something explicit are mostly "BepInEx Root Mod", so you might experimentally try that and move on to other types if that doesn't work.

You just have to drag & drop it to BepInEx/plugins folder.
Have fun <3
