Presumably this approach also solves the vanilla issue of maximum distance terrain LoD being wildly inaccurate because the LoD mesh is generated without applying the terrain modifications?
I hope the devs take note of this mod, and revise the flawed implementation in vanilla.
Just to be clear, is it safe to use this on a new world, then remove if necessary? Will my old worlds stay unaffected as long as I don't load them with this plugin installed?
Do you plan further work on it in nearest future? I'm asking because it seems to be very important and if you already abandon it, I may try to pick up it from here by forking your repo, but if you still trying to make it better, I will rather wait, because right now I don't have enough time:(
the creator has put it on github expressly so other programmers can contribute to it, so just do anything you can and contribute a pull request if you fix any bugs or optimize any code
Thanks for suggestion:) I will definitely do that when I have time.
But my question relates to prioritization of such activity. If mod author still continues his great work, my contribution would lead to 2 developers instead of 1. And since I'm fine to wait some time for this mod being network and save compatible, I would rather spend this time on working on my own mod (which isn't such helpful as this one, but there are nobody else to work on it).
On the other hand, if author decided to stop working on this mod, then my contribution would lead to 1 developer instead of 0. In this case I would rather spend time on mowing things here, since it looks very important for me.
It's not about willingness to help, it's about proper time management and getting more things done.
It seems that the creator just put forward a concept, and it hasn't been updated for a long time. This mod is also very unstable. I hope you can make it really useful. Thank you very much???He can really improve the experience of the construction party, but now it doesn't solve the problem effectively?
To be honest, if there is a map design mod, it can improve the FPS of the game environment. I don't know if this mod development will be very complicated?
With this mod, after 10 days in the new game, the game starts to crash ???MOD?????????10?????????With this mod, after 10 days in the new game, the game starts to crash
Just testing this out on a new world and am having a strange issue. After about 20-30 minutes my game started stuttering, not crashing or having a low frame rate; but jerking forward every now and then. After checking around I finally found a piece of land under my small main house jumping up and down randomly, from the looks of it this land was changing rapdidly and each change was updating something in the hmap file and it was waiting for the disk to finish writing. I'm not sure if it is a bug in the mod or a conflict with one of my other mod; but most of my other mods are UI/QOL. Mods listed below;
added this and had no problems until entering a Plains biome, which caused the rock pillars that spawn naturally to be deleted. A watch tower I spent hours on has now crumbled to the ground as its supporting pillar was erased despite being neither a terrain modification, nor player made.
These three rocks are still being deleted (They're mis-tagged internally as TerrainMods, not rocks) Prefabs are still spawning with less pronounced yet noticeable flat circles around them
Terrainmod duplication seems to have been stopped at least, though.
Hi, sorry about your world. I thought I made it clear not to load worlds you care about with this mod, but I'll add an extra warning. I'll look into fixing the towers, I didn't know they were mis-tagged. Thank you for your help.
Does this work on multiplayer at all? I used this on an existing world (backed up prior etc) and when my friend joins, he sees all our buildings but his terrain is as if the world has never been edited.
We tried sending him my heightmap. Are there steps you'd reccomend?
I'd like to thank you for working on this. It's a very specific, but very interesting and also important issue. Have you tried getting in contact with Iron Gate about this? I assume they might be working on optimizing this part of the game themselves.
Thank you for the kind words! No, I haven't tried to contact Iron Gate, I'm sure they already know about the issue, it's all over Reddit. If they implement a fix, it will likely be very different from what I'm doing. My mod is essentially a patch over the terrain system, what it needs is an overhaul. I just hope my mod makes some people's experience more enjoyable in the mean time :)
I'm sure they know about the problem but maybe they don't have a solution in place yet other than "stop destroying the world you're supposed to live in"

A stable muti-player version would be just perfect. Endorsed.

it seems you need to ignore-list:
These three rocks are still being deleted (They're mis-tagged internally as TerrainMods, not rocks)

Terrainmod duplication seems to have been stopped at least, though.
Now to wait for multiplayer support .^.
EDIT: Existing worlds do still seem to be badly fractured however
