About this mod

This mod addresses issues with polearms in Valheim. Firstly, they are quite useless due to dealing the most-resisted pierce damage. Secondly, the "polearms" aren't even polearms altogether.

Have you ever thought to yourself, "wow spears sure are useless"? Well, so did I after doing years of historical fighting with polearms IRL and trying to main them in Valheim as well. Naturally, I felt like it's time to make polearms great again, known for reach and versatility. So, there you have it.

The mod is simple enough and it shouldn't really conflict with anything that doesn't mess with the spear/polearm animations. It also uses custom chains for the Atgeir so it probably won't work with mods dealing with chain-damage or something.

Update 1.1.0
  • Added configurations
  • Configurable settings to only patch one of the polearms
  • Configurable pole hit animation for glaives

What this does:
Spears
  • Makes the spears two-handed
  • Changes their animations and attack range to the atgeirs' since spears having no reach defeats the purpose of spears
Polearms
  • Changes the attack animation to a 3-hit of thrust / pole hit / slash
  • Changes the damage types polearms deal, accordingly

Known (and less known) issues:
  • The spears throwing animation got wrecked because of how they're generally handled in the game. In the process of fixing it.
  • I haven't tested this in multiplayer yet, should see how it goes.
  • The Beast Races Mod is messing with the equipment system and therefore is incompatible.

How to install:
  • Make sure you have BepInEx installed (see in requirements)
  • Unpack the archive into your BepInEx/plugins folder

Changelog
Update 1.0.3
  • Unified the mechanics for affixing polearms to characters
  • Fixed the polearm stance and reduced the range just a little - glaives aren't spears
  • Removed the unnecessary warnings from the logs (was using them for debug and forgot to remove)
