Howdy Bob. I am so glad you made this mod, although I'm having trouble getting it to work. I got it working for some time, but it doesn't seem to work anymore for some unknown reason. I am running a modded version of Valheim via R2Modman. I have downloaded the mod + custom textures then browsed to my profile folder in R2Modman, created the CustomTextures folder and dropped the .png in there. Also I dropped the customtextures.dll into the Bepinex Plugins folder within my mod profile. I've got Bepinex on R2Modman as well. There are no Bepinex folders in my steam directory, but I have a list of plugins on the mod profile from R2Modman.
I’ve got no experience with R2Modman so I’m afraid I’m no help there, sorry! Manually installing mods is the only way I do things and it hasn’t lead me wrong so far. So my suggestion would be to do it all manually without R2Modman. And the newer versions of CustomTextures seem to have broken a lot of texture mods. For now I am using Verizon 2.7 until it gets ironed out.
So I installed custom textures along with other texture packs manually and it works great. I used to run on the older version of custom textures and it worked great for a while, until I saw there was an update. I'll give the older version a try, hope it works. that fog is so annoying xD.}
Hey there Bob. Thank you for the advice. Downloading the older version of Custom Textures seems to have did the trick for me. Even with the BuildFog-Be-Gone and within R2Modman.
So now that the mod is updated, it for sure works with the most recent CustomTextures mod? I'm still seeing some fog around Black Forests. I've downloaded both new and old version and it seems to work better (I think?). Thanks, man!
I still recommend using the older version of CustomTextures. That’s the one I use. I’m waiting for it to stabilize before I take another look at this. I am happy to send you literally my entire bepinex folder on discord so you can see what version combo I’m using that I’m sure works if that would help at all!
It doesn't work for me. I extracted the file and placed the .png in Custom Textures but still have all the original fog in the mistlands. I tried your 'most destructive way possible', deleted Custom Textures and stuck the Bepinex folder in Valheim and all the fog is still there. I've tried it with no other mods except Bepinex and Custom Textures incase another mod was conflicting and I still can't get it to work. The .png file in the download is called 'object_fog_ball_MainTex.png' and the instructions refer to it as 'environmentrenderer_FollowPlayer_fog_ball_MainTex.png' so I tried renaming it and it didn't work with either name. Obviously it's something on my end, no one else seems to have this issue, but I cannot figure out what the problem is.
I had to rename the png for the most recent update. The mistlands fog is a different texture and I haven’t found out what it is yet. The recent updates to CustomTextures have created some problems as the naming conventions have changed. If you downgrade back to an old version of CustomTextures it seems to still work though. I am trying to figure out the name of the new fog in mistlands but I am unsuccessful so far in my search. Is the fog removed in other biomes for you? If it’s not. Try downgrading to an older version of custom textures until the problem gets resolved there. I am working with the author to try and determine the source of the problem.
I believe the fog is removed in the other biomes. I've been running around Black Forest leveling up a new character with magic and have not encountered any fog at all in 3 game days, which is unusual. I'll try a old Custom Textures later and let you know what happens. Thanks for all your work on this!
Just FYI, I did try previos versions of Custom Textures with the same result, though I believe you know that also. Still a great mod, thanks for your effort. Hope you find where the mist is coming from someday....
So the problem you’re having is that the mistlands fog is still there? As I already mentioned here this mod does not replace the mistlands fog. It is an as of yet unknown asset.
Custom textures has gone through a lot of change recently and I can’t keep up. I’ve been using an older version. If you want to hit me up on discord I can send you the files I have that I know work.
It’s that bad for you that you’re gonna stop playing the game entirely? Maybe the mistlands just isn’t for you. It is supposed to be misty… after all it’s in the name…
There’s always the chance that I can’t find the name of the mist and never release a mist removal mod so just keep that in mind. Don’t wait on me to make something to meet your playing preferences.
If you’ve completed everything else and don’t like the mistlands then congratulations you completed the game! Try something else for a while and come back to it with new eyes and a fresh save. Or if you haven’t killed at the other bosses try those instead!
I probably will just wait for the beginning of the full release in case it changes again. Not sure why it’s not working anymore but it might be that it’s a whole different mods folder on the test branch.
Is this a separate fog from Sonoalien's Bepinex Fog Disabler or KillingGodVH's Fog Clouds Smoke Rain disabler ? Based on the previews you all have....it seems like it? Theirs seems to be actual Weather fog, yours seems to be the persistent environmental effect that shrouds the ground, but I don't want to have conflicts. Also, theirs doesn't seem to get rid of the low clouds like your other mod.
Basically I want to eliminate all non-plant ground obfuscation, but also the weather fog sucks. My guess would be use both of yours and one of the weather disablers, but again, I don't want to start a mod Fight Club.
They should be fine. Try it out! I don’t use the other one. But a couple folks have reported it not working anymore. Seems to be fine for me though so I’m unsure. I have not been keeping up to date with new mod mechanics for valheim so I apologize if it no longer works well with other mods. Cross your fingers backup your game (it’s small enough I’d backup the whole damn thing) and give it a go!
Thanks! I'll let you know how it works. I know your mods worked for me before, hadn't seen these others before. It's been a while since I played, sooooo I'll find out. ~crosses fingers~

Yeah I'm sorry custom textures just keeps changing the way it names files and I cant keep up with it...
Using the older version of custom textures still seems to work though!

The millimeter thick layer of ground fog is so immersion breaking. Your mod/custom texture is indispensable.
Note: Other custom textures are still working so the Custom Textures mod appears to be fine.
Thanks!

I do see in console that it did a bunch of stuff when I hit the hotkey but the fog remains :(
