    Steam Cloud saves

I have a beta that should work with cloud saves on Github, however I have not tested it with a C drive install. I installed Steam the D drive and due to xcopy being weird with spaces, I can't be sure if it will work with the default Steam install location.

If you want to try it, the instructions and file are here: https://github.com/lauren-mods/Valheim-modding/issues/2

Please do let me know if it works so I can upload it for others here.

You can do a shorthand Dos style directory,  Use ~1 where space would be & it should fill in rest of the directory folder.  just the ~1 nothing after it except the next \wutever Directory.  (example) c:\users\dos~1\appdata\locallow\irongate\valheim\character\ (dos~1 would be Dos God) as far as I know that still works in batch files because it is low level command output.

Thanks! I will try that. Unfortunately, I can't test it myself XD

I am having issues getting this to work. I placed the.bat file within a folder named "Backupheim" and then ran the .bat file. It has not created a file for backups and I am also getting an error that says "The syntax of the command is incorrect". Can you please assist me in getting this to run correctly?

    My .bat file path is
    C:\Users\Username\Appdata\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\Backupheim

I unzipped the .bat file from my downloads folder, cut and pasted it to my created "Backupheim" folder, and then ran the .bat file. No additional files were made and the above error keeps occurring.

Can you please advise on how to proceed?

    Thank you!

      Hello
I recreated your exact file path, apart from username, and it worked for me. It may be that (if your username has a space or special characters?) the batch file thinks it's an error.
I will try a workaround, and post a beta file here soon!

The beta worked properly and created the backup folder and found the files.

Appreciate the speedy response and quick workaround!

      Thank you!

Wanted to ask if you can make a console command when logged out to save world & or character local by pressing F5 & typing in Backuphiem then it gives you the prompt for the 4 options to backup.  how that would work honestly I am not sure, pretty sure u can do variables to execute batch commands but I am not sure. OR even easier just BackupHiem in console & it loads the batch file with the 4 prompts  for you. should be no problem making it stupid proof by disallowing the command when logged in or in world.

That's a great idea, but I think it is beyond my ability at the moment!

The mod 'Upgrade World' (https://www.nexusmods.com/valheim/mods/1485) has a 'backup' command which creates a timestamp backup in your normal worlds folder.

I actually use both - the upgrade world 'backup' command in-game (e.g if I'm about to edit a build!), and then backupheim before / after playing. Then I delete the 'Upgrade World' backups I don't need to tidy up the in-game world menu.

(Also, upgrade world is an amazing mod with many useful features for an early access game. Each time a patch comes out, you can 'upgrade' your world to add the new content!)

Just a quick Thank You for this! I had (painstakingly) made a series of .bat's to do this; Character, World, etc.

I also created a set of restore routines, but none of it was as elegant as this. (It's been quite a while since I did any bat files, and I was never a wiz at them, just generally competent. We all have our skills ... LOL)

I do want to note for Users reading this that you might put in your Description - pls excuse the shouting ;-)

YOU MUST BE LOGGED OUT OR QUIT TO SAVE YOUR CHARACTER'S CURRENT STATE!
Valheim is weird in that you can back up the WORLD while playing but the CHARACTER only is updated when you Exit or Log Out (easier), so you must log out to update the Character before backup. This isn't obvious.

Once again, thanks for this. I may modify my Restore routines using your template, it's easier to use than mine. Do you have a problem with my posting them here? I'd also be glad to just let you have them to polish and massage ... bat files love a good massage. ;-)
    Cheers!

I put the bat file in the folder, entered  1, and pressed Enter, but it is not backed up. Only folders are created and no backup files are created. Please guide me through the solution! I really need it! :)

      Sure!
First, can I check, are you on a windows PC?
Second, could you take a screenshot of the window and tell me what it says? Maybe there is an error message?
Third, do you know how to find your save game file location? If not, I can explain that too :)

Having the same issue. I did try it twice just to grab the screenshot so that may be what some of the errors are about at the top but the "invalid number of parameters" is the same as the first time.

Thank you for the screenshot. I was able to copy what you did, and I think I have a fix :)

Backupheim creates a folder called 'valheim backups' in its current location and for some reason, if there is already a folder with a similar name at a different level as backupheim.bat, it won't work. They should always be together in the same folder.

I think in your computer you have it installed like this:

      C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\OneDrive\Documents\valheim backup\Backupheim-1325-1-0-0-1623858612\backupheim.bat

      Right?

I copied this and it also gave me an error:

Could you try changing this to:

      C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\OneDrive\Documents\BACKUPHEIM\backupheim.bat

      and see if this works?

"Valheim-Backups" should be created automatically when you run the .bat!
