FAQ
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is Restoration of Mana?

 - Restoration of Mana is a text mod aimed to restore the game to fit with the original Japanese voice acting as well as the unofficial translation.

What does the mod change exactly?

- The mod changes various aspects of the game, though it does not heavily edit the main story it does change a large portion of the games localized text such as:

  • Bosses
  • Characters
  • Classes
  • Enemies
  • Items
  • Locations
  • Spells
  • Techs (Class Strike)
  • Terms
  • Weapons / Armor

 As well as correcting some errors in the official translation and clarifying some chain skill functions.

What are some examples of text that has been changed?

  • Benevodon -> God Beast
  • Valsena -> Forcena
  • Doppelganger -> Double Spell
  • Eldelfrei -> Swordmaster
  • Suzaku Aerial -> Suzaku Sky Dance
  • Goddes Of Mana Chain Ability correction from MP to HP [The skills does not restore MP but HP, this was a typo by the translation team.]

If the game is already officially translated why "Restore" it?

- The goal of this re translation is to make it much more faithful to the original Japanese voice over, the change to some of the spells and speech manner of some characters can be quite noticeable when playing with this option.

 As an example we have spells such as Mega Splash become Spike Freeze in the official translation, however while using the Japanese voice acting, the character still shouts Mega Splash.

Are there any other changes besides those mentioned?

- As a matter of fact there is, one of the big changes and a big goal was fixing Charlotte's text, as many know when the game was officially translated, the translation team decided on the not so popular decision to have Charlotte talk in what is known as "UwU Speak". This meant all of her R's and L's were replaced with the W's, giving us sentences such as "A wight, huh? It could be dangewous. I can't wet Heath face it awone! I gotta go aftew him!" which while faithful to the new dubbing, does not reflect how she talks in the Japanese voice over.

I don't like some of the changes can I just pick out the ones I like?

- Sadly at the moment no.

Do you hate the translation? The dubbing?

- No, in fact I am thankful to them for actually bringing the game to the west and allowing us to enjoy such a beautiful and nostalgic game, however it is my personal preference to play with the original voice over of the game.

So is this a complete 1 on 1 re translation of the game?

- Sadly, no even though that is one of my future goals, my lack of Japanese has hindered this, most of the re translation has been done using Google Translate, the original fan translation and friends who are fluent Japanese speakers Shuichi Niwa, BakusanRPG), however most of them (as well as myself) have jobs so we are unable to fully work on a 1 to 1 re translation. I am aware there is a lot of things that were cut / toned down / changed when the game was officially translated which I would love to restore (various hints at relationships, some more sexual and adult themes)

Hey this seems cool, do you think I can borrow the script / tools / files etc.

- Sadly this is a solid no, this work took a lot of effort and time to create, as it was a one man team (Myself) and the translators mentioned above, the tool itself is not mine but was borrowed from a Vietnamese translation group that created it to translate the game into Vietnamese ( https://hoigameachau.com/ )

I found an error in the translation, where can I report it?

- You can report it in the bugs section, please include the entire sentence or a picture of the typo so that I can locate it and fix it.

Is there anything you are working on?

- Maybe, but it's something based more on a joke...
