Hello awesome tool, is there a way to know which sound is for what? Other than listening and trying to figure it out? I'm trying to find the sfx for the M16 in TR2
hello thanks for this tool its awesome , i made some custom to replace some tr2 sound in tr3 but i would like to add the voice sound lara make when she pickup items in tr2 , but i dont know how to do since there is no sound for this in tr3 , did you have any idea???
how does this work properly? i tired using vegas pro then handbrake to make a new sound then saved it as the number i wanted to replace, tried setting the sound to 22kz and mono, then i clicked created main sfx after replacing the sound file with the number of the same name...replaced the main.sfx with the one created..started game and all the sounds were all misplaced and messed up..
Are you sure you you pointed to the original main.sfx of the SAME game? TR1,2, and 3 sound indices are all different. So if you are creating a TR3 one, you have to point to the main.sfx from TR3
I didn't know how it worked at first, but now I like using it. I'm still working on the SFX right now. However, on the one hand, I say that I use it, and on the other hand, I wouldn't have a chance to modify it without it. Many thanks for it! In my description I will thank you and refer to you.
how do you use this? what program and program settings do you use? i tried with vegas pro and audacity with no luck. and yup i read the read me file but it doesnt seem to be clear..tried setting things to mono and 22kz and still every time i go in game all the audio is messed up
Well, maybe i managed to put together step-by-step what I do: It got pretty long, sorry :)
--- Main.SFX sound extraction --- (4 steps)
- I open the Main.sfx modder program.
- I give Main.sfx the path from which I extract all the wavs. - I specify the path (Output Folder) where these wav files are placed.
- I click on Extract Sounds.
Ready.
---- Creating sound effects ---- This is clearly a personal procedure.
- I open LMMS. (Free and low cost)
- I create a lane. - I am adding aVST FreeGameboy. - I'm trying different sound effects.
- I'm writing different beats for a midi sequence. - I export this to wav. - I will modify the FreeGameboy settings as desired. - I export this again to wav.
---- Voice Exchange ---- (15 steps)
- I import this into Audacity.
- I split a stereo channel into mono. - I select the audio track I want to overwrite. - Right mouse button, - speed: 44 Khz. ///// Then it will shrink //// This was necessary because it mutes the audio track to 11Khz when overwriting.
- I select a slice/part of the gameboy soundtrack. - I copy. - by selecting the selected audio track, I paste the given part on it, thereby overwriting it.(Problematic part) // It is important that it has the same length, because otherwise, if it is shorter, it will play the given sound several times in a row. - I go to the modified soundtrack, - More specifically, I select the given note within the audio track.
//// I do this for each sound, then in principle it would be possible to export them all at once. //// But to be safe, I'm doing it one at a time for now.
- Next, export audio: - Exact name of soundtrack //basically, the program gives the name of the first imported wav file, but I need the name of the selected audio track. - Wav 22 Khz, Current selection - I'm looking for another folder for him.
- I drag it from the given folder to the extracted wav files. - I'll overwrite it.
----- Mixing sounds into Main.SFX -----
I mash the wav files into a MAIN.SFX.
- Open the Main.sfx modder program. - Keep the above setting or use the above setting. - Click on "Create Main.sfx". - Creates a MAIN.SFX in the already extracted wav folder.
- I copy this to the original 1 2 or 3 DATA mabba. - I overwrite the given MAIN.SFX. // but I'll make a backup of it before that. - I'll test it.
just doesnt want to work for me whatever setting or program i try...can you possibly take a look at my files? im on discord same name, fantasyraiderr ..i only wanted to change 5 sounds i got the 5 files they are all either a second or under a second in length
It appears I am too stupid to get any information about how to handle this: I wish to replace all of Lara's voice sounds (e.g. pulling up a ledge, the haa healing sound, etc) of all games with TR4's (gun shots, water, swimming sounds, steps would be cherry on top). I cannot figure out HOW or even IF it's possible. Since you're quite skilled with that I thought I'd ask here for suggestions. Sorry if this is way off topic but I guess thought you could know.
TR4 sounds are embedded inside each level. There is no MAIN.SFX, but you can download Tomb Raider Level Editor. It's available here: TRLE Lite. Once you install it, it should have all the sounds from TR4. Then you can replace the existing ones with these ones by appropriately renaming them and overwriting
Thanks for the quick reply! I will try to do so, big help!!!!
EDIT: THAAAAANK YOOOUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's tedious but it works! Some sounds like drawing/holstering her guns sound weird but I'll figure it out eventually (edit²: figured it out, changing the pitch of some sounds lets them sound as intended) also amazing tool you've created to change those things! (and apologies again for bothering x.x). HUGE HELP ♥♥♥
Yes, I figured that out. Somehow I messed up during testing and had to start all over. I'll give you an update on how it went once I am done. Again, I would not have figured it out on my own.
I was able to finish all 3 games with the sounds I wanted (apart from Uzi/Magnum sounds in TR1 but that's fine), I uploaded them btw if you want to have a look (don't be too harsh, first timer here xD)
I tried to replace the magnum sounds once and then they were nearly silent xD I will look into replacing the sound once again but for now I need a break xD Messed up a couple of times with certain files and it's still not perfect (need to replace shimmy/grabbing ledges etc) BUTT it's servicable :D
yeah it's a tedious process. You're mod looks good though. Tr2/3 will randomly/occasionally change the pitch of certain sounds, but there's nothing we can do about it. That's the way those games are designed
That might take a long time. I would have to study the level structure. It also depends on what you want to do. If it's just extracting and replacing, it might be a little easier. If you want a graphical window inside the program where you can replace textures etc, it would take a very long time.
Also I think the textures are in separate files anyway, so you can easily edit them. The thread here would be helpful for textures

how do i do it.
In short: fiddly
Note: I haven't dealt with it recently, maybe I won't... converting about 300 sounds... we'll see. I do not have time for it.

Sound works while playing.
I just tried what happens if I export 44khz to the given wav.
It plays in the same way, but its size has become slightly larger.
I put the original SFX on the output folder... Dumb mistake

I don't know how to extract what's inside it
