I used XNConvert to convert them to TGA, then edited those TGAs. To put them back in the game, I converted the edited textures back to DDS using Nvidia Texture Tools with the command "nvcompress.exe -color -mipfilter box -max-mip-count 6 -bc7 [input folder full of TGA files] [output folder to put DDS files in]". The game is pretty picky: so far I've only been able to get textures working if they're the exact same dimensions as what I'm replacing, and they do need to be BC7 with 6 mipmaps, I think. There might be other settings that work but I stopped trying after I found one that did.
Sure, but if you press F1 to switch then you get all the rest of the classic stuff as well: framerate, font, original object models, etc. The idea behind this and other similar mods I've uploaded is to make the remaster more modular, so you can just stick to Remastered Mode with its framerate and shading advantages, while choosing to keep the stuff you prefer from the originals.
I wouldn't know where to start with making anything much beyond this kind of texture mod I'm afraid, but I did see a YouTube tutorial for swapping outfits which might do what you want.
