This mod aims to upgrade all prerendered bik format video cutscenes in the first Titanfall game from 2014.

What does this mod do?
PVE is a project inspired by the A Lot of Videos (ALOV) by myself and Audemus, which upscales all of the prerendered cutscenes in the Titanfall game to 4K 60fps.

Titanfall (like all games) has 2 types of visuals displayed in them:
  • Real-time rendered visuals, which consist of things like 3D models, textures, menus, etc.
  • Cutscenes and loading screens that are just video files - scenes similar to point 1, but rendered out before and then just played out.
Since these prerendered cutscenes are just video files - no texture, model, or other graphics mod can help them.

The only way to make them better is to fully substitute them for newer and better-prerendered videos. Ones that have higher resolution and higher bitrate, so more details are shown to the player. This was achieved using Topaz's Video AI to upscale each video frame by frame, selecting specific algorithms for each shot to insure the best effect.

Other edits include:
  • Removing doubled frames - some of the outside footage used in the original video by Respawn looks to be 24 fps and has been transferred into 30fps videos included with the game by doubling each 4th frame of the original footage. Removing the doubled frames and extending scenes to account for a slightly shorter duration stemming from that was taken into account.
  • Original footage resolution - some of the footage used in the original video by Respawn is actually not just lower quality, but a lower resolution than the 1080p that Respawn shipped. They did so with just a simple stretch resize of the footage. Before upscaling videos, they were all tested to determine if 1080p was truly the original resolution of the footage. If it wasn't - shots were first downscaled to the determined true resolution and then upscaled from it to 4K
  • 60 fps interpolation - I used Video AI's Chronos FPS Conversion algorithm to double the number of frames. For most shots, it worked wonders right off the bat, but for some (especially high-speed movements with big differences in the placement of objects on 2 consecutive frames) blurry artifacts were introduced, or even some objects were missing on the newly generated half-frames - those had to be manually edited and corrected.

Compatibility:
At the time of writing, there are no pre-existing mods available for the first Titanfall game on Nexus Mods, meaning that there are no issues with cross-mod compatibility.
As for game version compatibility:
This mod was created based on and tested with the Origin version of the Titanfall game, version 1.0.10.1.
It is unclear if this mod will work with other versions of the game - if you possess such a version and can asses whether or not there are any problems with this mod for you - please let me know.

4K Resolution Disclaimer:
While installing the 4K version might be tempting, you should know beforehand that it is very taxing on your CPU.
The 4K versions might be very stuttery on lower to mid-range CPUs, and also the 1080p version looks actually really good on 1440p and 4K screens (not as good as the 4K version, but still way better than vanilla) so I would suggest that if you are using a lower to mid-tier build (and ESPECIALLY if you are using integrated graphics), you use 1080p version instead of 4K.

CPUs confirmed to be ok with 4K biks: Intel i7-4770, i7-4790K, i7-6700K, i7-7700K, i9-9900K, Ryzen 5 2600X, 5 3500U, 7 5800X.
This suggests that the 4K biks should be ok on CPUs with at least 4 cores and 8 threads, with over 3GHz of the CPU's clock.
(If you see that 4K videos work for you with a lower-end CPU - let us know)

Available packages:
1) AIO 4K 60fps variant - includes all the pre-rendered cutscenes upscaled to 4K resolution and in 60fps framerate
2) AIO 1080p 60fps variant - includes all the pre-rendered cutscenes downscaled to 1080p resolution from the 4K variant and in 60fps framerate
3) No Startup Vids variant - includes only an overwrite that disables the opening Corporation logos for faster game booting

Installation Instructions:
1) Download your desired zip package
2) Open the game's installation folder
(For the Origin version it is by default "C:\Program Files(x86)\Origin Games\Titanfall")
3) Place the zip package in that folder
4) Unpack the zip there (Not into a newly created folder)
5) Accept any overwrites of existing files
