Would it be possible to add an export function to allow the export of the population files to a .csv file? I do like statistics and data science and would like to try to get some meaningful data out of this, even if it is just for fun.

That was requested before, so I already wrote a dedicated Pop File Decoder.
Usage: PopFileDecoder.exe -i <population file> -o <outfile>Edit: Link should work now.
