I have a RTX 3070Ti with a 2k monitor 3440 x 1440, your ReShade just colour the shadows really really black, in the light its all good but when its dark is extremely black. Is normal?
No reshade, just your mod. I will try to re-use it with the command in the console r_skipglare 1, you think will be better? After all, your advice is to not use any kind of ReShade?

Flawless Widescreen tool supports The Evil Within and has a default-on setting to disable the blackbars everywhere (menu, cutscenes, etc). Alas the sniper zoom is affected adversely as well, but it works great in pretty much every other case
I believe it does apply for cutscenes too - but I hadn't paid super close attention to them during cutscenes
Ah yes, I forgot FW exists. And I also forgot that the black bars are intentionally imposed within the game, so they are theoretically removable, if FW supports that.
Thanks for the mod, just got the game on sale today. Curious about a couple of things: 1. Is the teased version 1.1 on schedule to be released anytime soon that might be worth waiting for before playing the game? 2. I noticed mention of upscales being available for DLC 3 (The Executioner) on the Steam Guide, but see the download for it having been Archived here on Nexus. Is it no longer applicable?
1. Funny, you've mentioned that. It's planned to be released on the 10th of November. V1.1 will offer: - Mimicked Full Range colours (like with FINAL FANTASY XIII), as they would still be encoded to Bink 1 (I don't have Bink 2.3d encoder). - Overall visual improvements over v1.0 as a better AI model will be used. - Better bitrate allocation to prevent as many compression artefacts as possible. - QuickSFV support. - Bug fix to DLC 3 - The Executioner, originally, the video would stop playing in v1.0 due to an unknown issue with the video file. - Remasters untouched video files. If they break in-game, I will have to downscale the upscaled versions of them, to increase the video quality of them.
I'm currently not certain on how much of a visual upgrade the v1.1 would be, but from experiences with using this better AI model, the improvements are usually moderate to significant in contrast to the older AI models.
2. I have decided to archive the Pre-Rendered Cutscene for DLC 3: The Executioner, due to a known bug that I have yet to fix. This will be fixed in v1.1.
When v1.1 is released, I will have overhauled this mod page by then. Admittedly, the mod page is in shambles.
Do you recommend using this mod even if one does not use a 4K monitor? In other words, does this mod improve the quality of the cinematics even when playing the game in 1080p?
That's a hard question. Only due to the fact the originals did not have significant amount of compression artefacts. Maybe for this game, you can skip this. But for others that I have upscaled the FMVs and/or Pre-Rendered Cutscenes, I highly recommend downloading them, regardless if you have or haven't got a 4K capable display.
Bink is basically like YouTube, but better. My point, is that using 4K upscales, is like watching a lossless compressed 1080p footage. But with Bink, you'd get better visual fidelity and consistency that it will look like these pre-rendered videos are playing back in-game with low amount of aliasing, with a 30FPS cap.
It's probably better than nothing. If the mod won't ruin my gaming experience, I might as well download it. I don't know much about modding and I had never heard of Bink (or at least not in detail). But judging by the screenshots, the 4K version still offers a nice graphic upgrade. So even if I don't own a 4K screen, I can still try to grab a few more pixels (if I'm not mistaken). I have nothing to lose, right?
Exactly, apart from that, you'd just lose a bit more storage. But in case you don't see the worth of this mod, you can always backup the originals if you wish to do so and restore them later onwards.
