Sorry to bother, kinda new on this too and recently downloaded your mod and I like where this is going. Curious though, is there a way to change portraits to some custom stuff I made? I noticed as soon as I started up and loaded a heroine, her name appeared in the mod's data folder and so that's where I added some new test images of my own to see if I could get it to appear for me, but the default of the sample guy shows up instead lol (still a good sign things should be working correctly, no errors) so kinda curious of how to change it to match a character or do I put everything in the default folder?

like, where to? File formats? (pngs?) sizes and such? X'D
This is a bit exciting to see.

It seems a bit finicky, but I got it (sorta) working by matching the exact dimensions and name of the default_Normal.png provided by the mod (527x572). Made a few alterations in GIMP for a shoddy custom portrait, then placed several images in my character folder, as well as replacing the one in the default folder to test.

I'm not sure if naming conventions do much in the case of Self Portrait, but I stuck with [name]_[Season].png, though it loaded the incorrect season in-game.
Changing force outfit for myself/NPCs, refreshing, and using hotkeys all seem to do nothing regardless of changes made in the config and bepinEx menu. Could be a mod conflict on my end, but I'm sticking with the default "fallback" for now. One image is good enough for me.

I feel extremely dumb but I can't seem to get this to work for me. I'm new to modding SH, so I know it's probably a me issue, but my others are working fine. I'm on a mac, which I know can make things weird, and I can't open the text file to edit the settings without it turning to gibberish. Obvious answer would be to change the settings in game, but I can't for the life of me figure out the steps for that on my comp. F1 just adjusts the brightness. I can pull up the cheat menu but don't know if that's the path I need to be taking. If anyone could help I'd be so appreciative.

On a Mac (or any laptop really) you probably need to hit the Fn key to actually hit F1.  There is a setting in the Mac settings "app" to toggle the function keys to trigger without the function key, but I don't think that is the default.

As for editing the config, if you're seeing gibberish then you are likely opening the DLL file.  You need to open the .cfg file in the BepInEx/config directory.

Thank you SO MUCH for the quick response! You were absolutely right, I was opening the wrong file. The modding system for this is so different than what I'm used to I didn't even think the edit a file outside of the mod folder. Are there any settings that HAVE to be altered to get the player profile to show up? That's the only feature I'm trying to make work at the moment. I have tried it with the mod unzipped but in the original folder placed in the plugin folder and have tried moving the files within the devopsdino folder to just being loose within the plugin folder, even tried just leaving Napoleon in case it was my file type causing issue but no joy so far. I know it's gotta be something simple I'm overlooking but it's such a basic set up that I am failing to see the forest for the trees I think.

Thank you for making this mod!

Instead of having to deal with conversation logic, would it be possible to add buttons during dialogue where we can freely click to change our player portrait expressions?

It's possible, yes.  I added a feature request to my github page, but I've got quite a backlog with other stuff.  I'll let you know. -- dd

Sooo... If anyone else has issues with the the Player Portrait getting smushed/squished either on the width or the height, then it's because the mod's resizing function doesn't really take different aspect rations in consideration.

If I understand the code correctly (I know near to nothing about coding), I think you need to keep your picture's aspect ration at (or as close to) 166x199px. It worked for me at least.
