Huh. I did, in fact, think flares were infinite. Which is actually part of the reason that I've never used them; it was ugly and, I thought, might start affecting performance over time. Maybe I'll have to actually try them out now (instead of just leaving the starting two in the pod from start to finish).
I doubt you can toss that many flares to achieve that. After around 60m or so, they wont be calculated anyway. So the short answer is no :)
The long answer is: If you have 1000 flares lying within a 60m radius, you could get a performance impact, as long as you are within this radius. As soon as you are leaving the area, it will be gone.
Is this mod compatible with Day Night Speed by Zorgesho? I don't know whether that mod directly effects Flares or not as it changes the speed at which the game changes from day to night without effecting most other things that rely on the in-game time.
Yes, totally compatible. I am using this mod myself, so I made sure it works. The depleting speed is related to ingame days, that means, if you set the flares to last one day, it will still last one day even if you change the "Day Night Speed".
Yes, it is always related to an ingame day. If you double the ingame speed, the flare will also deplete at the doubled rate. So if you want to have the same duration, you need to set the flare to the double duration.
