v2.0 is a total remake of the mod, made from the ground up from edited audio files. - Lowers the volume to a level close to the base game's level. No more bleeding ears for headphone users! - Removes "Out of Bounds" callouts from soldiers. The Announcer addon will still include them. - "ExplosionClose" tags have been muted. Audio lines should be slightly less repetitive now. - "PartnerSpawn" audio clips have been reduced to make more sense. Previously, they just gave out random compliments that sometimes didn't make sense in that context.
Frosty was being a pain in the ass, but the mod now replaces the audio for all 4 main classes in the game! Hurt and death sounds are available in an optional download zip. The classic announcer is also available in another addon file.
Ever considered porting the Ewok sounds from classic BF2? Lmao, they're very nostalgic for me. (Unless you already did and I just didn't notice.) (Could do the wookiees too, unless they're also already done and I'm just stupid and didn't notice.)
I did consider it, but ultimately decided not to go through with it. The original Battlefront 2 only has 12 audio clips of Ewok voices, and DICE's Battlefront 2 has SO many Ewok voicelines for SO many different actions that making a mod like this would make the Ewoks sound obnoxiously repetitive unless I purposefully made them mostly silent. The Ewoks in the new game make noises for every little action they take, whether it's for drawing their bows, jumping, hitting the ground, having a trap go off nearby (in Ewok Hunt), that an Ewok voice mod would end up using the same sound clips for multiple actions.
After using both this and your classic voices - Empire mod for just a few hours I only have one word. WOW!! :) This is incredible work buddy!
As someone who adores the classic Battlefront 2, these two mods are everything I could have hoped for and more! The lines picked are well suited, cleverly edited and revamped, and the volume is just perfect!
Hearing lines like “I want those rebels dead!” And “I’m taking you down plastic boy!” Threw me back to when I was a kid playing this game on my battered PS2 lol. Brilliant stuff, happily endorsed both! Now they are never leaving my load order lol. Keep up the fantastic work :)
Can you replace the Resistance announcer with the Classic Alliance announcer so both factions share the same announcer? Also can you (please) remove the "plastic boy" and the "aunt buru" dialogue? Of all the OG BF2 dialogue, these made the least sense. Stormtrooper armor is not plastic by any means and why do rebel soldiers know or care about aunt buru (unless they were...well acquainted with her O.o)?
This mod is really meant to bring that "classic" feel to the Rebel Alliance, and I think the "plastic boy" lines really add to that experience. I know Stormtrooper armor is not plastic, but that voice line is more of a taunt making fun of how weak Stormtroopers always seem in the movies after getting shot. "That armor worked real well, didn't it?" is another voice line from OG BF2 that goes with it pretty well, I'd say. As for the "Aunt Beru" lines... yeah I debated with myself over whether or not to include those, to be honest. But at the end of the day, they were in OG BF2 and I wanted as many lines as possible to be included so the mod would feel more complete and true to the original experience.
I have no plans to overhaul the Resistance or First Order. While they're VERY similar to Rebels/Empire, I like having them be different enough from the OT factions so they seem (at least a little more) distinct. I might change my mind down the road and overhaul their voices as well, but for now I just want to focus on improving the Rebels/Empire voice mods. As you know, HighElfArcher is helping me reduce the volume for the audio clips so they're not so obnoxiously loud, and I'm trying my best to figure out how I can prevent the other factions (like clones) from receiving dialogue from the Empire. You've helped narrow down which files might be the cause for that, and valas991 now thinks it might also be the Shoretrooper Captain Hotfix file.
Only the optional addon file that includes the hurt and death sounds will affect the other factions. No other faction will sound like the Rebels in this mod, not even the Resistance.
Yeah unfortunately that's the game's fault. DICE only made a few files responsible for death screams: some specific to alien races, some specific to certain reinforcements, some only to heroes, and the 4 trooper classes across all factions only get 2 files in total: male and female death screams. So all the Clones, Stormtroopers, Rebels, Resistance troopers, and First Order Stormtroopers all share the same file responsible for death screams. Similarly, all the female troopers in the game share their own death file as well.
I didn't 100% like any saber mod which is why I made my own. Jesperado's was the one that was the closest to what I wanted it to look like, he let me use his project file and I modified it from there, but then I had to remake it from scratch when the pointed tips came out. Kylo's saber never changed so it's the last part of Jesperado's original file which is why there is a sparks version.
Too bad EA's Battlefront 2 has such little dialogue/voicelines for soldiers. The original Battlefront 2 by Pandemic has a lot more voicelines including warnings for certain units advancing and the announcer adding more variety, where as in EA's Battlefront 2 you hear the same voicelines every-time. It's not possible sadly to add all those voicelines from the original Battlefront 2 by Pandemic into Battlefront 2 by EA. Good work though and goodluck on your projects for the classic voicelines.
Thanks! And yes it's unfortunate that 2017's voicelines are a bit more "generic" than 2005's. There are voicelines for calling out friendly ewoks and wookies for example that simply have nowhere to go in 2017's files. Still, I'm trying to fit in as many voice lines as I can.
I mean I kind of get why dialogue like that isn't there. I doubt they thought about including more reinforcements to the game until way later, so the framework was already "complete" without callouts to reinforcement units. That aside, remember how it took them over 3 years to add new weapons to the main trooper classes? And that they were mostly old ones from 2015? Classic DICE lmao
I was waiting for someone to make this! Fantastic work, I can't wait to see this finished.
I have a suggestion for the ISB agents voice. There are several mods that replace the ISB agent with the royal guard, and Bf2 OG has unused voice files of the royal guard. Perhaps you can make an add on file for the ISB agent to use this royal guard voice? https://youtu.be/OwwTC8RcC8k
Thanks! Whenever you do the voicelines for the royal guard, maybe you can take audio from Sev of Republic Commando since they seem to be the same voice actor. It's a stretch, but some lines could work for the royal guard since the royal guard doesn't have too many lines. If you only want to use lines from bf2 OG, that's understandable. Good luck with the project.
Unfortunately the ISB Agent doesn't have too many voice lines of their own. I've looked everywhere but it looks like there's only 3 sound files for them, 2 tied to their abilities and one tied to "throwing concussion." Considering they can't even use concussion grenades, this was likely what DICE had planned as their 3rd ability before changing it to "Assault Training" somewhere down the road. So at best, I could make a couple different sound clips play when their "Imperial Intel" and "Double Your Effort" abilities are activated. DICE clearly only added the bare minimum number of voice lines when they added this reinforcement to the game.
That being said, I may still grab some voice clips from Sev if I feel like his lines fit the ISB Agent's abilities better than the cut Royal Guard ones. The "Double Your Efforts" ability could probably keep the Royal Guard clips since it's like a generic battle cry, but the "Imperial Intel" ability could use stuff like "scanning for hostiles" or "target located," which I'm sure Sev has said before in plenty of different ways. I doubt the "throwing concussion" voice lines for them are ever heard in the game at all, what a shame.
So it turns out that the ISB Agent has much more dialogue spoken by the AI. It goes way beyond their abilities like the player's ISB Agent. I'll be sure to use some of Sev's voice lines for them without sounding too "out of character" for a Royal Guard to be saying on a battlefield. I doubt they'd be calling out for Delta Squad or taking orders from anyone aside from the Emperor himself, after all.
I'm not sure exactly, all I know is I remade the mod from the ground up in one sitting instead of ocassionally picking it back up and continuing where I left off with the project file. Importing audio has always been super buggy in my experience, and Frosty tends to "autosave" every so often but all it ever seems to do is dump a metric crap ton of temporary files into a folder that I'd have to delete at the end of every project. For this mod, it ended up with roughly 70GB of temp files. How does that even happen? I'm working with like 30mb of sound files at most.
If a file doesn't import correctly it adds a temp file. You can put 0.1 seconds of blank audio for files that don't import correctly then it should work.
What causes an audio clip to not import correctly, and how can I tell if it doesn't? Because from what I could tell, everything imported just fine, it just took a massive dump all over my storage with temp files. After inspecting them, most of the temp files were pretty small but two of them were like 35GB each. How do they get so large out of seemingly nowhere? It just doesn't make any sense to me. Also what does setting the streampool null do?
I don't know why it wouldn't import correctly. If you don't see the import tool finish with each file imported with the [0] [1] [2] numbers etc. then a file didn't import. Setting streampools to null makes it so audio doesn't get muted.
Ah gotcha, thanks. Yeah I've made sure that all the audio actually gets imported and appears in the changelog with [0] [1] [2] .... every time. I"ve been doing the streampool thing but didn't have an explanation, I just knew people said to do it when importing audio.
I'll try the mod now that the announcers were replaced too. For lines that had no similar ones to classic did you import a blank audio file or keep it vanilla? And what about the hero announcer callouts?
For lines with no similar ones to the classic announcer, I imported a "blank" sound clip about a quarter of a second long, just so it would be consistent throughout every game mode. That unfortunately makes the announcer more quiet during some game modes, Galactic Assault in particular since like 90% of the dialogue is objective and map-specific. However hero callouts, out of bounds warnings, intros/outros to specific maps (at least ones with audio clips from the original game, sorry Scarif), and even cargo events ARE covered by the classic announcer! That is if you don't mind the cargo being called a "flag," but they function pretty much the same so I figured why not? I also made the payload in extraction be called a "command post" to keep things simple. The only game modes that purposefully aren't covered are HvV and Starfighter Assault. I may add SA lines one day if there's demand for it, but I hardly play that game mode anymore and I don't think too many people will be sad if this mod doesn't cover it.

Great mods! I love them to death man.

Fair enough, but disappointing for me. lol
(Could just make it an addon for people who don't like the annoying constant Ewok screaming. lol.)
EDIT: As I've recently learned how to audio mod myself I might just do it myself. Infact, I probably should just do it myself.

Also I know more people probably use BetterSabersX but bro your Screen Accurate Lightsabers are my favorite, been using it forever <3
