What happened to 4K Legions? 4K Legions will not be getting further updates. I appreciate all the downloads and support this project's gotten over the years, but my efforts are now going into a series of collaborations with other talented modders under the name Pandemic Modding.
I'm sure more than a few of you will be happy to know our first major release, Classic Battlefront Clones, features this same texture style but in a much smaller, better optimized, and more widely compatible package. Its next update aims to improve optimization and texture detail even further.
Why isn't 4KL getting any more updates? Time. Battlefront modding stopped being my only focus or interest a while ago; I've been helping other projects in and beyond the Star Wars community, as well as helping my family during a particularly rough period.
I'm very aware I left 4KL in a bad state. Its file size is needlessly massive, a lot of the skin changes were done suboptimally, and there's nothing I can do about Frosty's apparent memory limit. If I had the same kind of free time I used to, I'd probably remake this entire thing from scratch. But I don't. So I'm trying to be efficient with the time I do still have for this game, and putting it to better use.
I can't stress this enough: if you like these textures but don't want to deal with a large or potentially broken mod, download Classic Battlefront Clones. It's got better models, it's compatible with bigger mod lists, and it's also going to be updated in the near future. I fixed a lot of this mod's mistakes while making that mod, and I'm only going to keep improving on it from there, so definitely give it a look.
Will 4KL be taken down? No. If you want to download and use it (issues and all), you can still do so. This mod did a lot of things well and a lot of things poorly, and I have no need or desire to hide either of them from the public.
I'm also aware of Nexus's interesting decision to prevent mod authors from deleting their own files from this website (read about that hot mess here), so even if I wanted 4K Legions dead and gone, I wouldn't be able to. For better or worse, it's here to stay.
Probably you two are using two Clone Trooper mods or have weak PCs. Played the mod for hours multiple times and had zero crashes or issues. Your friend below, moderndemon84, even said it still works.
I've discussed this with you previously. Yes, it does edit VUR and BPB, but it doesn't make the game unstable. In my experience, I only had unstable problems when mixing other Clone Trooper mods which messed with gear. If you are paranoid about the VUR/BPB, you could just remove them or load another mod below it which removes all Clone Gear (addon over at Matte Clones can be found to remove all Clone Gear). To add onto this further as I already said before, those VUR and BPB are Clone Trooper exclusive and dont interfere with others. With that said, the only "other mods" that will have issues are again, Clone Trooper mods.
Perhaps you can explain to him why this mod isn't broken since you two are friends. I've already did and went into detail on why it isn't but hes convinced because of some Discord moderator made some random post so he takes it as gospel (thats the evidence he showed me before). Even to confirm this, I went ahead and loaded the mod and played Clone Era specifically for hours when I had free time on different days, my game didn't magically become unplayable or broken (tested with and without other mods).
I used many mods, cant list them all because it might be over one hundred, no issues (tested without mods as-well). I did play other eras occasionally when I got a map I did not like.
As I told you before, back then Frosty had a mod memory limit of only 1-1.1 gigabytes. So many people had issues when installing this mod with other mods because the game would simply not load due to the limit. This mod is 600MB, which was already a little more than half of the limit taken (Look back at my previous comments mentioning this issue on this modpage). With that said, many just assumed it was Ortho's 4k Clone Legions being "notoriously buggy" or being incompatible with other mods because removing this mod made their game launch (again it was because of the memory limit many people were unaware). Ortho gave that disclaimer likely because he just thought it might be buggy because of people randomly stock piling mods like Skyrim assuming there wasn't a mod memory limit. If you re-read his post (specifically the reason why the mod wont get an update because thats the only part that tells us why he may not recommend it), he mostly talks about how some textures were done "sub-optimally" (so hes not proud of some marking textures fully) and then he talks about file size/memory (which is what I talk about above). Which means he doesn't recommend this mod because of the memory limit/file size , and the memory limit with Frosty Mod Manager has been fixed.
in YOUR experience with playing with the mod you haven't have any problem's that doesn't meant they aren't any ive had crashing issues with the mod with out any clone mods and it cant be my pc because mine can use bf+
bf+ isn't even a performance intense mod so not sure why you mentioned that. Tested on two different PCs (with different specifications) and other people I know used this mod before. Neither of them had issues nor did I on the other PC (which was worst than my current one). It doesn't just work how you think it does where just because I have the mod not crash its only specific to my experience. These mods are packaged in a way where everyone shares the same experience unless their hardware is limit or they have conflicting mods.
Load order for this mod doesn't really matter unless you plan on using another Clone Trooper mod (since this mod only modifies Clone assets) so your argument about load order is null. This make me believe more that you're just trying to use two Clone Trooper overhaul mods together and failing, using other mods that are crashing your game and you believe its this mod, or you're inexperience with how modding this game works (based on your previous comments). As for bf+, it isn't performance intense. Just because it has a big file size doesn't mean it will be performance intense. Majority of the textures are 1k-2k as-well to make it optimized for all types of hardware since they'd likely want to get more than just people with high end PCs using the mod.
im just gonna leave a bunch of SS of people in the bfm discord opinions on why orthos mod shouldn't be used if you still disagree then your disagreeing with the whole modding community and they are most likely more in the right then you are because they are actual modders
Let's break this down. First off, the first image you showed is from 2020, when the memory limit was still an issue, so was VictorPL's comment from 2021. Those two can be put aside as irrelevant due to the memory limit being fixed. The comment from the bot, Dyno, is likely from the same issue as I mentioned above, many people just thinking it broken because of the previous memory limit and when they removed Ortho 4k Clone Trooper their game launched again. Many people will read the same thing said and take it as gospel. Stoichiom doesn't know what hes talking about, except when he says is resource intensive, going back to when it use to take 600MB of the 1 GB memory limit. Like I said before, it only modified Clone Trooper assets, nothing more. Ywingpilot2 also seems to lack knowledge because I've used it with many mods and again, Ortho's 4k Clone Legions only modified Clone Trooper assets so it will only conflict with those mods which modify Clone Trooper assets. Lastly, for what Cubed said, it will only cause issues with other Clone Trooper mods which modify those VUR/BPB. Its common sense not to mix two overhaul mods together if you're already using one to begin with. For example, do not use Chucky's new Rogue One Storm Trooper with his older one. Like you mentioned, these are just "opinions", and these people do not represent the entire modding community.
you still think they are talking about the memory limit which is false if they were they would have mentioned that and if they do only edit clone assets then why do you think they would say its incompatible with a whole bunch of mods it doesn't make sense you just don't want to believe them
I edited my post, re-read near the ending, "Like you mentioned, these are just opinions, and these people do not represent the entire modding community." Also, do keep in mind what I said about the two first images of them being old and how there was a memory limit, this is important to understand why people mentioned this mod was broken because of that memory limit, which is now fixed.
So you're from 2022, that was around when the memory limit was fixed so you never experience this issue. I mentioned how it was all above. Basically because this mod uses 600MB from the 1 GB limit, this mod took more than half limiting how much mods you can have and people found out when removing this mod it fixed that issue because they just freed up 600MB. Which is why many ask about if this mod is compatible with Ortho's 4K Clone Trooper. Very little people knew about the memory limit back then. If you go back in my older comments, you can see me mentioned this to people.
I just explained to you why. You dont understand because you started modding this game in 2022 with the limit fixed. People just made assumptions because when they removed Ortho's 4K the game loaded, but it was the memory limit all along. Re-read my comment again since I added onto it further. Majority of people didn't know about the memory limit, which is why they made that assumption to put it in simplest form.
your the one who is assuming that there talking about the memory limit which they are not they are talking about other things that this mod does that makes things unstable you aren't even in the discord server you wouldn't know
Majority of people didn't know about the memory limit, which is why they made that assumption to put it in simplest form. I cannot explain it simpler. If you have a bad PC and are using multiple Clone Trooper mods, then its common sense to not use this mod.
I was around during that time like I said. Its not hard to understand. Mod modifies ONLY Clone Trooper assets. Frosty had a memory limit before of only 1 GB. Mod is 600MB. People's games stop working and assume it is this mod because when they remove it, their game starts again.
your still assuming there talking about the memory when there not you have no proof off them talking about it and they are actual modder unlike you they know what their talking about your just making guesses
I know what they are talking about because I experienced it as-well, like I said you don't understand. But heres a bunch of recent screenshots of me playing non-stop with Ortho's 4k Clone Trooper and many other mods: https://i.imgur.com/cJLT1Al.jpg https://i.imgur.com/geOudNb.jpg https://i.imgur.com/uRfgLRA.jpg https://i.imgur.com/tMaID7K.jpg https://i.imgur.com/6ucMKMy.jpg https://i.imgur.com/yhJNE4s.jpg https://i.imgur.com/4YMBxpJ.jpg https://i.imgur.com/d1ri42f.jpg https://i.imgur.com/eWxMbhp.jpg https://i.imgur.com/TfH4Qts.jpg And by the way, I know what I'm talking about. I don't know why you have such a personal vendetta against this mod. Did this mod cause you any psychological harm, I don't know. I understand you're a big fan of Movie Clone Troopers. Perhaps go help people who want to use that mod instead of wasting time, viewing things in such as narrow view and not understanding anything because you came from 2022.
i dont hate this mod i just dont want people using it because how broken it is and you may know what your talking about but you dont know what other modders are saying your just assuming they are talking about the memory issue when they are not they are talking about the changes it makes making other mods not work with it the memory issue was just one out of many problems this mod has
So lets go back to the screenshots you showed me. None of them explain why the mod has issues. Again, I'm ignoring the two outdated one from 2020 and 2021 (they also dont explain anything anyways). Now if we look at the others you posted, its just shows them saying "broken", "incompatible", and performance intense. Again, if you have a weak PC or use other Clone Trooper overhauls, don't use this mod. As for incompatible, the mod only modifies Clone Trooper assets. So don't use mods that modify Clone Trooper assets. Lastly, for "broken", I don't see any proof of it being broken which is why I talk about the memory limit because that was the real issue that barely anyone knew at this time. Cubed tried to give some information, but those VUR/BPB are Clone Trooper exclusive so this goes back to me saying don't use this with other Clone Trooper mods that modify those. Just to reiterate, none of the images you uploaded give any real explanation. I gave you a real explanation based on previous experience and from helping other people.
here is one that was recently after the modlimit fix
the reason why it doesn't work with other mods is because of the changes this mod makes that ortho didn't talk about causing other mods to not work and i know there not talking about memory because recently they removed 8k vader from the broken mods list because the memory issue was fixed no one really knows why it doesn't work with many mods it just does
This doesn't really explain anything. As I mentioned before, all he mentions is it has "issues" and resource intensive but doesn't explain. The mod only has issues with other mods that modify Clone Trooper assets. People who have weak PCs shouldn't use the mod. "no one really knows why it doesn't work with many mods it just does" This is just them making assumptions from back when there was a memory limit and their games didn't start with the mod in their load order.
and now your calling that an assumption literally every modder knows that this mod is broken and your just denying because you like the mod i honestly dont know what to say at this point
I go based on evidence, so far you haven't showed me any evidence besides three people saying "broken", "issues", and "performance intense" which isn't proper evidence (two older images don't count). There is not enough evidence to really have a valid discussion that this mod doesn't work. The "evidence" you're using is just based on "he say she say", which isn't proper evidence. Also, I use more than one Clone Trooper mod, I switch between them in load orders. Lastly, the reason I call it an assumption is because they don't provide any evidence. What do people do when real evidence isn't provide, make assumption based on previous experience or knowledge. The burden of proof lays on you because you're the one saying the mod doesn't work, therefore it's your duty to prove what you're saying is true with valid evidence.
my valid evidence is actual modders saying this mod doesn't work with other mods thats evidence because they are actual modders they know what their saying
Sorry to say but images of someone saying something isn't really proper evidence. If they actually went in-depth (like I did) as to why this mod may be "broken" rather than one liners then maybe it would be more convincing, but they don't. Cubed is the only one who actually said something that is plausible, but this issue is avoided if you don't pair this with other Clone Trooper mods. But then again, why would you need to use another Clone Trooper mod when you're already using one.
This is nothing new. He already mentioned this in the first image of him you showed. Again, these issues only come if you mix two other Clone Trooper mods or Clone Trooper mods that modify the Clone assets, which why would you. Use one or the other.
I understand that. Its the same as the first image you showed me related to him, its nothing new. Just don't mix two Clone Trooper mods or mods that modify Clone Trooper assets.
Then we have another classic comment from you over at Movie Clone Troopers:
https://i.imgur.com/2iZEI81.jpg
Not saying Ortho's 4k Clone Legions is the definitive choice for Battlefront Plus but just thought this comment worked perfectly with this previous one.
I never said to use it with BF+. I mentioned to try it and find out. What should I expect from an individual like you who hasn't even developed object permanence.
Its interesting how you recommend using Movie Accurate Clones, yet complain about it crashing your game when using it with BF+. Im sure its crashing due to your inability to read properly.
Pretty sure posting gibberish that is not on topic anymore, irrelevant/nonsense, spam, nothing meaningful, false/inaccurate information is against their rules. Not like you're able to read them though.
Ortho originally had quite a bit of Clone mods before DICE added the marking system if I remember correctly. With that being said, those mods were removed because they were outdated since the new marking system was implemented and no longer did you have to replace the base Clone textures to get markings in place. Even if someone did have the Keeli Company mod, it possibly wont work with the latest Frosty Mod Manager or Battlefront 2 since the game has changed. You could try using this ARC Trooper mod to at-least play as Captain Keeli (it replaces one of the 501st ARC Troopers):
I doubt anyone will know the answer to this, but is there a way for me to edit any of the downloaded mod files to change the Coruscant guard heavy back to its original color design and get the visor back? I like all of the other changes, but I love the original style for this unit a bit more. I don't know if it would even be possible to edit or delete anything from my files to change that. If anyone can give me any info I'll be really grateful.
You could open up Frosty Tools and export then reimport the Coruscant Guard markings in a new mod fiel to get the original texture back. Just make sure to load it below this one. Lower mods take priority over others.
Its one of those things you have to learn, the current lead of Frosty doesn't seem to think guides are important to keeping modding alive for this game/application, evidence to the Guides section being removed from the website (never had any content in it to begin, just a blank page). There's also little documentation around. Clone appearance may be under "markings" tab somewhere if I remember correctly. You need to export and then re-import the Coruscant Guard's textures (markings) in the same directory.

Just load it after Ortho's 4k Clone Legions main file or whatever Clone overhaul you decide to use.
