I made this about a month ago, but initially I didn't release it for two reasons. First, I couldn't decide what to do for a Beam Overload sound, but after working with the Star Wars sounds and deciding a unique sound wasn't necessary for those, I figured the same logic applied here as well. The second reason is that for some reason when using my computer's surround sound speakers this particular sound sometimes goes almost completely silent depending on how my camera is oriented around my ship. I have no idea what causes this, but it doesn't happen when I use my headphones so maybe it's just something with my own speaker setup? If anyone has any ideas please let me know.
The sound itself was taken from a video of the Vengeance attacking the Enterprise with some of the background audio removed, but due to the nature of the audio used I had to splice the audio from two different shots together to get a usable sound. If anyone has a source for a cleaner version of this audio please let me know.
To install:
1) unzip 'Kelvin Into Darkness Phaser Sounds.zip'
2) Within 'Kelvin Into Darkness Phaser Sounds.zip' you will find a folder named localdata, copy it and paste it in "...Star Trek Online\Live\"
3) The end result should look something like this: "...Star Trek Online\Live\localdata\sound\win32\M_P_Player_Space_Kelvin.fsb"
This does not modify any actual game files because STO supports override functionality using the "localdata" folder, so this SHOULD be safe, however it IS a bit of a gray area so use at your own risk. As far as I know there have not been any official statements made about whether this type of thing is OK or not, but if I find one I will update this description immediately.
