Unfortunately, the games doesn't work for me. I have the GOG version of BC and the Legacy v1.11. I have followed the install instructions except I couldn't find the options.cfg file initially. This appeared after first boot of game and I then replaced it with the v1.11 copy. The game loads up to the in game options menu OK but if i try load a single player or quick match it crashes to desktop. I've tried the three properties changes including to run in XP compatability mode as admin. The outcome is the same. If you can help I'd be grateful. David
I have to give a shout out to Retro-Badger-Gaming for highlighting this mod and letting me know about it! Mod looks promising and its great to see continuing modding support on this great game. However, is it possible to split this mod into parts so the Nexus virus scan can verify the files? That is the only reason preventing me from trying out your work.
I mean it's nice that we are still getting new mods for this game, but for a mod that claims to be "a remaster that plays like the original game", it sure has immersion breaking moments. Such as the Sovereign being the Enterprise-E again... sigh... why do all mods do this? Leave the sovereign alone! I'm also not seeing any damage on the model. The music choices are interesting to say the least. Remember the time the Enterprise got an order to launch its trident missiles to Russia? Neither do I...
As a total newcomer to STBC, I have to say that I'm REALLY ENJOYING this "Legacy" addon mod! :)
For anyone having crashing and/or framerate issues, a few things:
First of all, locate a NO-CD executable ("STBC.exe") for the game elsewhere on the Internet and install it.
Apply the previously mentioned 4GB Patch to the executable ("STBC.exe") from here -> https://ntcore.com/files/4gb_patch.zip .
Enable Windows compatibility mode for the executable ("STBC.exe"): "RUN THIS PROGRAM IN COMPATIBILITY MODE FOR: WINDOWS XP (SERVICE PACK 2)", and "RUN THIS PROGRAM AS AN ADMINISTRATOR".
Lastly, download "dgVoodoo v2.82.5" from here -> https://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/bin/dgVoodoo2_82_5.zip . I noticed a large increase in framerate when using "dgVoodoo v2.82.5", ESPECIALLY in the game's "Map Mode", and when there are a lot of starships in "Quick Battle". To install "dgVoodoo v2.82.5":
Copy the files "MS/x86/D3D8.dll", "MS/x86/D3DImm.dll", "MS/x86/DDraw.dll", "dgVoodoo.conf", and "dgVoodooCpl.exe" from the ZIP to the "Star Trek Bridge Commander" folder.
Run "gVoodooCpl.exe" and uncheck the "3Dfx Watermark" and "3Dfx Splash screen" check boxes on the "Glide" tab.
Set the "Videocard" option to "dgVoodoo Virtual 3D Accelerated Card" on the "DirectX" tab, set the "VRAM" option to "1024 MB", and uncheck the "dgVoodoo Watermark" check box.
Set the "Config Folder/Running Instance" option to the "Star Trek Bridge Commander" folder on the "General" tab by clicking the ".\" button ("Adds the folder to the list where the control panel app is located."). Note that this will create the file "dgVoodooSetupPaths.dat" located in the "Users\USER_NAME\AppData\Roaming\dgVoodoo" folder.
You're welcome! BTW, another framerate issue that stock STBC suffers from has to do with Windows itself. It is recommended to perform a computer hard boot, which Windows does NOT do when simply powering it down. Here's a text file that I typed up detailing a fix (read my full message thread over at GOG detailing the problem and all of my days of experimentation and confusion here -> https://www.gog.com/forum/star_trek_bridge_commander/star_trek_bridge_commander_framerate_problems_solved ):
Full Computer Shutdown ---------------------- Performing a full computer shutdown and restart can help to solve undiagnosed framerate problems in "Star Trek: Bridge Commander". In order to perform a full computer shutdown, you can temporarily disable Windows "Fast Startup".
To disable Windows "Fast Startup":
1. Navigate to the "Power & sleep settings" control panel.
2. Click on "Additional power settings".
3. Click on "Choose what the power buttons do".
4. Click "Change settings that are currently unavailable".
5. Uncheck "Turn on fast startup (recommended)".
6. Click "Save changes".
7. Shutdown, and then restart your computer.
8. After your computer has restarted, re-enable "Fast Startup"
Alternatively, you can perform a full computer shutdown and restart without having to temporarily disable Windows "Fast Startup" from the Windows "Command Prompt".
To perform a full computer shutdown from the Windows "Command Prompt":
1. Navigate to the Windows "Command Prompt".
2. Enter the following command:
Shutdown.exe /s /t 0
3. Restart your computer.
To perform a full computer shutdown and restart from the Windows "Command Prompt":
1. Navigate to the Windows "Command Prompt".
2. Enter the following command:
Shutdown.exe /r /t 0
Lastly, you can confirm that the computer actually performed a full shutdown by running Windows "System Info".
To confirm that the computer actually performed a full shutdown using Windows "System Info":
1. Navigate to the Windows "Command Prompt".
2. Enter the following command:
SystemInfo.exe
3. Compare the "System Boot Time" value with your actual date and time.
Hehe, I forgot about that last screenshot... I was creating an image to post to a ST group on Facebook, and I temporarily downloaded the Phoenix ship to stage the screenshot. After I finished taking the screenshot, I deleted the ship... hey, it can't even shoot LOL!
BTW, two suggestions for additions to Legacy (I can't remember download links for them, I think I got them over at GameFront). "NX Uniform" mod, and the "NX Uniforms mod fix". Also "Multiplayer Systems for Quick Battle" mod.
Anyhow, I've REALLY been having a blast with Legacy! Lately I've SEVERELY been binge watching TOS, Enterprise, TNG, as well as the TOS and TNG movies. I have the ENTIRE series of each DVR-ed, as well as all of the movies. It's fun setting up "real-world" battles of some of the depicted scenes in the series episodes and movies LOL.
I did try to balance this game to recreate most of matchups seen in all the shows! When facing three Keldons ahead of him, Thomas Riker claimed that the "Defiant can take them." He was convinced to turn himself in before that battle could happen...
However, I did want that matchup to be possible with this mod. Although difficult, it is possible to win that battle with these key points:
1. Your pulse weapons will do the same damage at all distances. 2. Cardassian beam weapons lose their max damage after 7km. 3. Focus pulse phaser and torpedo attacks on their ventral shields.
I challenge you to try it!
Although an easy win, fight a B'Rel-class as a Galaxy with your shields down (aka the Generations challenge). Start the battle by turning your ship around and letting it shoot your aft section for a few seconds before returning fire.
I figured out a consistent way to trigger the problem:
As long as you don't load in the Sovereign bridge in the same game session, all of the other custom bridges look fine. After loading the Sovereign bridge (which always looks OK) and then loading one of the custom bridges, that's what triggers the bug... all of the custom bridges will then have weird looking "artifacts" until you shut down the game and then restart it.
I don't know exactly what causes this problem, but at least this is a workaround for the problem... if you load the Sovereign bridge and then wish to use one of the custom bridges, then simply restart the game :)
P.S. The Galaxy bridge doesn't seem to cause this problem.
I wanted to thank you again for enjoying this mod!
Very soon I will be releasing 1.1, which will include a handful of new ships.
I noticed you made an expansion on Gamefront. What do you think about me incorporating it into 1.1, either as a part of it or an optional install?
I haven’t had a chance to try it, but I look forward to giving it a go! I saw you made a Doomsday Machine mission. Have you played as the machine and used the tractor beam? It’s fun!
Hehe, my "expansion" is nothing but a small collection of "Quick Battle Replacement" missions LOL. If you're thinking of incorporating QBR itself into Legacy, you might not want to... STBC/Legacy is a bit unstable with QBR installed resulting in quite a few crashes.
Yes, I've played using the DDM as my ship, LOTS of fun
Is it me or is the K'Tinga overpowered vs the Constitution Refit? Shouldn't the 1701-A be a fair bit more powerful on a ship to ship basis? I find ot nearly impossible to beat the K'Tinga right now, but maybe I'm not using the right tactics?
I’m glad you’re enjoying the mod! The K’Tinga is meant to be a fearsome opponent, but with the right tactics you should be able to take him down 1v1.
You want to avoid attacking the KTinga head on. It has fearsome forward firepower, and its forward shields are incredibly resilient. From the Klingon perspective, he must always keep his forward arc pointing at you to maximize his protection and damage against you.
As the federation captain, you will want to attack his bottom ventral and his rear. Target his warp core. If you stay close enough to him and stay on his bottom or rear, he will have difficulty turning his front towards you. This means he will not be able to fire at you and you will be attacking his weakest shields.
at the start of the battle, don’t waste your torpedoes against his fore. Save your attacks for his bottom or rear.
avoid running away or getting too far from him. All that does is give him the opportunity to turn his forward against you. Stay close, and stick to his bottom or rear.
another way to practice this battle is to play a Galaxy against a VorCha. The tactics for both matches should be similar. The maneuvering and shield characteristics should be the same, since the Connie Refit/K’Tinga were balanced as scaled down versions of the Galaxy/VorCha.
Let me know how it goes! I’m working on a version update and will make a balancing pass if needed.
Hey, so I have downloaded the mod to check it out and Im having lag issues, I have the 4BG patch and it doesnt seem to fix the lag? Does anyone have solutions to this?
The FPS takes a sudden plunge whenever there is a cutscene or whenever i click on any crewmember, whenever there is a dialogue the game grinds to a crawl. Combat gameplay is fine. I have patched it with 4BG patch, didn't work.
-If you are running Windows at 4K resolution and have problems getting the game to work, right click on your desktop and select DISPLAY. Go to Display Resolution and lower it to 1920x1080. 1. If the game does not work properly after lowering your resolution, go to your Bridge Commander folder, right click on STBC.EXE and click PROPERTIES. 2. Click the compatibility tab and check "DISABLE FULL SCREEN OPTIMIZATIONS." 3. Then click CHANGE HIGH DPI SETTINGS and check OVERRIDE HIGH DPI SCALING BEHAVIOR, then set "scaling performed by" to APPLICATION.
Amazing mod, tho i am sadly struggiling with weirdly low fps around 20-30 and a little stutter, is there any advice to fix this? im playing on my pc with a Ryzen 5 2400g and 1050ti and 2x 8gb DDR4 ram
Try this solution suggested with BC Remastered: RAM usage can be high for the old game engine. It is HIGHLY recommended to make sure you install the 4GB address aware patch to the .exe (make a backup first!) if you have frequent crashes mid-game. This patch is universal and works for many old games. Get it here: https://ntcore.com/?page_id=371

BTW, if you're a Star Trek TV and movie fan (like myself), here's a web page that I quickly cobbled together that you might find handy -> http://bhservices.us/weeds/Temp/Star_Trek_Starships_and_Bridge_Commander_Legacy_Bridges/Star_Trek_Starships_and_Bridge_Commander_Legacy_Bridges.html .
Download a ZIP of the web page for offline use here -> http://bhservices.us/weeds/Temp/Star_Trek_Starships_and_Bridge_Commander_Legacy_Bridges/Star_Trek_Starships_and_Bridge_Commander_Legacy_Bridges.zip .
That way you can match the proper starship with the proper bridge in the game to recreate various TV and movie scenes in "Quick Battle" :)
I appreciate you so much!

I have a new version in the works with a few additional ships. You’re enthusiasm is motivating me to get it done!

I've noticed a small problem/glitch with some of the custom bridges in STBC Legacy. This SOMETIMES happens, but NOT ALL of the time.
Here are some screenshots:

http://bhservices.us/weeds/Temp/STBC_Legacy_Enterprise-B_Bridge_Problem.jpg

It's almost like some of the "models" (I'm not sure what they're called) for the bridges get messed up.
I've noticed that I can exit the game and restart it, and then they look fine. Like I said though, it only happens sometimes... which is really weird.
Any idea what could cause this? Thanks for any help :)
