It is not. Currently running rdr2 on ultra everything in 4k, but can't run starfield on low. Bethesda dropped the ball on this one. Playing starfield on gamepass on my Xbox hoping someday they'll optimize it. Even in 4k on my Xbox it doesn't look as good as rdr2. Maybe dlc will make starfield better.
Still crashes, even on low. With rx 580 8g. Lame Cause on a random planet with high everything it runs fine. Go to Akila, instant crash. So obviously it's an optimization problem.
Found some ini fixes to avoid too many bright in some shops. [Display] fGamma=2.2 bAlwaysInstantEyeAdapt=1Please check it. I think main option is the second one. Galmap and system map aren't too bright.
Sorry. That fix not working. Some shops are still too bright when some weather and time. I use settings from message kf177045 now.
I had one too many today, but the bloke who did that: you're a genius. I did the same to other "shadowy" games as well and it's flying high. I also used the suggestion from the first page. Cheers from the lads who were into MS-DOS.
The big deal seems to be the shadows. Eliminate them, play well.
This set of shadow settings: uShadowMapCount4096=1 uShadowMapCount2048=1 uShadowMapCount1024=1 uShadowMapCount512=1 uShadowMapCount256=1 uShadowMapCount128=1 seems to be more stable on my system (i5-6600, RX 580 8GB, 32 GB RAM).
I'm running your setting, seem stable like not easily crash in the middle of abandoned outpost or something. But I have to be cautious around New Atlantis especially The Lodge. That place is black hole of crash.
Thanks for this fix, but it doesn't work very well for me, I keep having sporadic crashes over time, in planets it happens almost 0 but in cities like New Altlantis it crashes very often.I play the XBOX Game Pass version.
This completely changed my game. It not only fixed the constant crashing, but also let me put the graphics settings up with only occasional FPS stuttering. It looks like a whole new game. Cheers.
Hey all quick update, it looks like Shadow Quality AND Contact Shadows need to be perma-set to low to ensure stability. I was getting some crashing in certain cities when I got bold and turned contact shadows back up.
So the consensus is that this mod does totally work, but does anyone know why it works, and why the RX 580/570 have such trouble with shadows? Is it just because of the sheer amount of them, or like, what is causing it? I really don't want to upgrade and I also really want to play this game but I feel insane not knowing the technical side of things.
Even Resident Evil 4 runs on my rig with shadows enabled and I have an RX580 8GB, a ryzen 5 3600x, and 32gb of ram??? it feels like it should be enough and yet it's constantly crashing before this mod. what the heck is causing shadows to be such an issue lol
RX 580 8gb 16gb RAM ryzen 5 2600 all settings medium except for shadow quality/contact
before using this mod I was crashing in the kreet facility within minutes. post-install I was able to get through kreet & atlantis np but now I'm instacrashing in the lodge. this mod absolutely helps with whatever is causing issues but in my case it's not enough. if I find a solution other than "buy new PC lmao" i'll post it here
You have literally the same PC as me lol. Pop Radeon Chill on, with a 30-60 range, and turn FSR off completely, render at 100% resolution (1080p). Oddly, it's more stable than trying to downscale from what I've seen.
Quicksave before entering The Lodge or The Rock in Akila; for whatever reason, those are serious hell-zones.
I ~think~ for some reason, the game does not un-load Atlantis or Akila when going inside these two, and they are very detailed places, so it always overloads the VRAM. As soon as you get inside, stay dead still, and the moment it's auto-saved, immediately just go to menu load the autosave, and it will be fine.
Having Cleanfield is a good idea, of course, since you can get into the game much faster without faff if it does CTD.
thank you! setting fps limit to 30 really helped. also setting GTAO to low. I didn't notice much difference with FSR on or off but with fps & GTAO tweaks I was able to walk around the lodge for 30+ mins with no crashes. I think you might be right about atlantis/akila bc I've been running around neon for hours with no crashes whatsoever.
this stupid GPU has held out this long & starfield isn't gonna be the game that kills it. Todd Howard will have to pry the 580 from my cold 1080p hands
Yep, same. Nearly everywhere else seems to be optimised fine; I had a 5 hour session last night surveying several planets with only funny Bethesda bugs (Lyle being hardcore and not needing a spacesuit on the surface of Callisto being the funniest)
My 580 has served me brilliantly (Ultra settings in Cyberpunk too, on 1080p) since 2018, and continues to do fine in 99% of games, so I'm of the same mind.
@meleenoobz2 You might want to add some of the comments to the first post; notably that Radeon Chill to lock the frame-rate at 60 or less, removing FSR, and lowered GTAO, as well as the autosave trick for The Lodge and The Rock.
Try turning off the bordeless screen option. The game will be cropped on the screen, but use the app Bordeless Gaming to go real fullscreen. For me now is like a charm, playing about 10+ hours flawless.
