To clarify, the reason Barrett and Sam where chosen in v1.0 was purely because they where my least used companions in that specific game. I got nothing against any NPC, didn't even know Barrett was gay until a comment pointed it out and absolutely do not care in the slightest which companions you people do or do not like.
Descriptions etc. are changed to remove any references to specific companions as this is apparently a heated topic.
v1.1 adds a menu so you can choose your own sacrificial companion instead of using mine.
1.14.70.0 SFSE 0.2.15 Worked perfectly. You should got this mod in your game before you started Short Sighted and all will be fine. Actually, it will work even if you already have this quest. Just go to the EYE and you will reach the popup window of this mod, then set up your choices.
Glad that my experience with Bethesda before made me take a save quite often.
Thanks for the mod, pal. I owe you a beer) (you just completely save me from depression)
I chose Sarah to stay at lodge, chose Barrett for The Eye. But when I got to the Eye, Andreja died and Barrett was just injured. Im killing Barrett in one play through, and Sarah in the other play through. What do i need to choose to make that happen? Please n thank you :)
Does it still happen now? There was a recent update to the game if I'm not mistaken but I can't remember when though.
You can use GetAV COM_Affinity in the console to check affinity value and GetAV COM_AffinityLevel to check affinity level (0 being the lowest, 3 as the highest).
As you know, the game will ask us to choose between the 2 companions with the highest affinity ratings determined by their affinity value and level. If multiple companions have the same affinity level e.g. 1, then those having the highest and second highest values will be selected. Those with the highest affinity value/level will be placed in the Eye while the 2nd highest will be at the Lodge. In your case, it'd be Andreja.
If what you described still happens after installing the mod, then it seems that this mod couldn't override the game settings on companion affinity value/level.
The GetAV method won't work as this mod doesn't edit any affinity values. Instead the script selecting the companions is adjusted to select the chosen npcs instead of using the affinity stat.
Will check sometime soon if this still works. Starfield updates might have broken something in the meantime
And I feel sorry for everyone... Ideally, this is the mod that will send the character (whom Bethesda sent to the slaughter) into a traumatic coma until the end of the game, and after completing all the main missions, you will be able to visit him in the clinic. You can even think about a neural interface through which you can communicate with him while the brain is alive and the body is paralyzed (someone throw in an idea for communication in a coma I. Mask). At least, it will look more acceptable for such peaceful and, relatively, tolerant people like you and me (who, after completing the mission, wanted to destroy the Bethesda office).
I just tried this out using Creations, and it didn't work. When the mods menu came up, I selected Barrett for the Eye and Sarah for the Lodge. However, Andreja was on the Eye and Sarah was in the Lodge. Andreja died. If Sarah or Andreja die, that messes up my playthrough for my NG+ plans. I have very specific reasons why I want Barrett to die for the first playthrough, before NG+, I did his entire mission and played with him as companion for nearly the entire game, he has by far the highest affinity, but somehow the game doesn't want to choose him. Sarah and Andreja have identical affinity.
Is the version in Creation out of date relative to Vortex?
Probably its because as a male your romance options are Andreja and Sarah, so that leaves Barret and Sam, tbh Barrett is a better character but Sam gives you extra engine and extra cargo
Barret is honestly the weakest companion storywise. Sam you track down a crime syndicate, Andreja you learn about snake cult spies, Sarah you deal with scars of the Colony War and the Gilligan's Island girl. Barret? You.. file a lawsuit against some megacorp. I like Barret as a character, personally. Dude has kind of a Captain Mal dorkiness to him but his questline just.. feels like it should be side quest for some rando not a full blown companion.
Whelp, couldn't find the linked mod before so I made my own and thought I'd share it. As for Barrett, I just find him a touch annoying. Nothing against anyone who likes to have him around.
I was a bit too sensitive due to this being the second mod making it so Barret died specifically. It's too easy to think everything is charged these days, my bad
Barret never shuts up, is too needy, thinks he's too cool, his personal quest seems to take 3 times as long as any of the others and I'm afraid to bend over in front of him. Man, that guy just doen't want to take no for an answer. None of the other companions seem to be so pusshy. Plus he just drives me nuts guess I'm a racist homophobe LOL
one question. If you play as a girl character are the females gay and the men straight? I don't play as a female but it seems it would be hard to work in being straight for barret as his quest involves his husband. Feels like they locked him as gay and ONLY gay. Are there any straight and ONLY straight characters?
@Rostsit Nice bait Mate :) , as long as people are hating the character cuz of him just being sucky rather than the obvious racial ones. (Reminds of mods for Skyrim/Oblivion to remove Redguards/Dunmer from the game back in the day)
@Wolfhorse60 I believe all Constellation are bi, Polyamorous as well except for Andreja I think I know you can date Sam and marry Barret or vice versa. Haven't tried with more than that.
quote:Zentelioth @Wolfhorse60 I believe all Constellation are bi, Polyamorous as well except for Andreja I think I know you can date Sam and marry Barret or vice versa. Haven't tried with more than that.
@Zentelioth I really liked Barret at first but he just started to grind on my nerves after a while. Sarah did a little and Sam sounded like Elvis. Andreja, of course, was just the right amount of "murder-y" LOL Do you play as a female character? I was just curios about how they handle Barret with a female character. And you can "believe" what you want but I saw no signs or dialogue with my male character that the girls had any "bi" tendancies or remarks. They presented themselves as straight characters but their dialogue was ambiguous enough that if you were playing a female character they would seem gay but not bi. Sam was also kind of ambiguous as well. Barret was or felt specifically gay. I'm not sure if that was dialogue or his personal quest line of saving his husband that made it feel that way. The fact that he was always trying to feed me was kinda weird. I'd be interested to know how he handles female characters if they want to romance him does he have a wife instead or does he just say he's bi. I'm just curious how they handle it. but not interested enough to play 10-20 hours as another character LOL
They seem to almost go out of there way to never refer to your gender much in the dialogue of Starfield much at all (Which seems counter intuitive to the fact they have you pick a Pronoun)
Barret pretty much never mentions my character's gender at all, tho if anything he pretty much admits he's not over Erving and that it'll always be apart of him, no matter how he's committed to someone else. (I'll say he's the most like Level Headed AFTER you're with him, which is weird from how Uncomfortably Forward he is prior to that)
This is all par for the course to be honest because it's very similar to how they handled romances in Fallout 4. And to be honest I'm here for it rather than the Bi-erasure that tends to happen otherwise.
I just don't think the dialogue is deep enough to really go into their sexualities that much other than "Hey Player Character would you like to Romance?" Y'know?
I think all 4 are "romanceable" to all player genders. At least I get the "flirt" dialog options for all of them. I went with Andreja though. For some reason Sam still likes me more than anyone else at over 100% and I'm married to Andreja who is only at around 70%. :| I waited until I did the faction quests before moving on the main/Constellation quests and didn't take companions on the Crimson Fleet/Vanguard type quests.

Barrett eventually gets a Starborn power to duplicate himself.
Just because a mod exists already in a different form, does not mean a mod with a different approach can't be uploaded anymore. If that would be the case we would need to remove far over 50% of all mods on Nexus. This mod has a different approach and adds or will add some creature comfort in that you can select the companion in game without having to put a specific mod/script file into the game folder ideally before you even start the game. And this mod here is not a blatant copy of the other mod. So that part of your "Not trying to be annoying" is already obsolete.
And there is nothing wrong with Barrett. He is far more enjoyable than this insufferable Sarah Morgan. A little full of himself and not a person i would like to have around me in real life, but. Sam Coe is a dude through and through with great voice acting. One of the best in the game. It just sounds natural and you can almost hear that the voice actor enjoyed himself doing Sam's lines. It sounds like the voice actor also put a lot of his own personality into acting Sam Coe and frankly, he would be a person i could sit with for a long time and have a chat about anything.
Sarah on the other hand is just a pain everywhere. Even with Shut Up Sarah installed she annoys the living hell out of me. She has a stupid comment on everything. By now i take her as a companion for as long as i can stand, just to make sure she is high enough in affinity to be one of the companions chosen by this quest. No matter if she stays on the Eye or the Lodge, i always "save" the other one. Also she treats the player like a blithering idiot. The player is usuall in a somewhat advanced age, somewhere in the range from 20 to 40 maybe and i guess that will be valid for most gamers out there. He was born somewhere in the stars, he did see spaceships in his life and he surely will heard a thing or two about Zealots, Spacers, the Crimson Fleet. After all the player character is not an alien. And yet, Sarah has to belittle him at every corner and every moment like he would be from an outer worl and setting foot for the first time into the settled systems. Every time the player has a Dialogue with anybody she has to barge in, push herself to the front "I am Constellation". I wouldn't want to have such a person around me in real life. Even if i wouldn't know anything about the settled systems this is real bad behaviour. You let people do and only step in if something goes sideways. Also after you went through the Unity, i.e. you are the person with the actual experience, she still tries to tell you what to do. She knows nothing about what the Unity is, what to expect when you go through it, and yet "I think it is best if ...". All in all she has the worst writing of all companions. Just annoying. You walk past something and for 5000th time "I always liked that statue". I don't care Sarah! I don't give a flying damn if you like it or not, just keep your mug shut. She is a typical person that needs to prove herself despite being highly insecure. And the character does that by having this real annoying trait of being the "I know it all" teacher mode on permanent overdrive. By now before i enter any conversation i just shoot her in the face, if she only starts to open her mouth i just blast her with my automatic rifle and once more just to make sure she can't finish her sentence. If i take her with me on a quest i tell her to wait right there at the ship. Because you can bet that if you try to sneak up on an enemy Sarah will be there to wave at them as to say "Here we are, shoot at us". She even does that if you snipe from over 200meters away. In the end all companions make stupid remarks and are cause of a lot of WTF moments, but Sarah is just the icing on the cake in the most annoying way possible.
@wolfhorse60 I think that you're concerning yourself too much about sexual orientation. I honestly don't think anyone in the world of Starfield thinks too much in terms of gender-based attraction because of one simple word that's part of the lore: Enhance! In a world where you can change your genes linked to physical expression for the price of an office TerraCino run, does the superficial even matter anymore when it comes to who you're romantically attracted to? You just love who you love and don't think twice about it because the fact is that every time you set off into space could be your last time.
But for the record, Ervin is always Barrett's husband regardless of player gender and everyone's flirting patterns are the same as well.
@Zentelioth The absolute lack of gender identity being part of what makes Barrett's romantic mind tick is evident when the term of endearment he reacts to most at the wedding ceremony is "Detective." Barrett is the perfect example of what I wrote about above from a implied/subconscious level. Meanwhile, Sarah is the example of the explicitly stated side of sexual orientation in a post-Enhance! society, as she mentions the variety of her dating history. Andreja seems to lean towards the idea that the relationship with the player is the first romance she's ever had. Sam, on the other hand, is a not-so-subtly coded former ho who probably did lines of Aurora off the asses of all the dancers in the Astral Lounge at some point in his smuggling days.
My issue with Barret is this: I do not mind that he is gay and gives you a romantic option. But once you do not select it, that should be it. In real life when someone hits on you, you get to say yes or no. If no, then that should be the end of it. If it continues it is harassment or stalking.
Once we have the creation kit we can mod thing like this. A simple "decline" option for each npc that is a romantic potential would solve this. If a person changes their feelings we can mod an option to give a gift to the npc, reenabling romantic options. This should be simple.
Players may want to play starfield purely platonically. We should be able to choose that if we want.
Just so you know, there is a command console method to choose/ manipulate who dies in/after that mission(It is in an old reddit thread.). I kept Andreja and Sarah alive and chose to have sam die because he seemed to have the least useful stats for enhancing my ship, I did not care about his stats for following me around killing people because my character was already very powerful by then. That is too bad that people are giving you a hard time for your mod and saying that you are "politically incorrect" or whatever, you should point them to the reddit thread that I am talking about..... don't feel bad about the hate, your mod is super awesome!!!
I hate that bi overemphasis. I prefer when bi characters are not so obvious. I am a straight female and want to be refered to as one, callewd as one, especially by companions I romance - not a their, not a he. A she. The lines in this game give me a headache , but yeah the stories don't go deep enough. In the meantime Sam also has one line that's really erroneous and refers to you as their in the scene where you rescue Heller. It's annoying and shows negligence.
Just did this quest on Xbox for the first time. Thought it was cheap and contrived so I immediately looked up to see if there was a mod. Needless to say when I upgrade my PC I'll be getting this!
bonjour sans rentré dans un débat volcanique Mdr le menue a fonctionné très bien chez moi, et je l'ai en français ce qui est encore mieux merci beaucoup pour votre travail j'estime que se mod est indispensable
