Background
Learn how to add custom armor and weapons to Starfield using xEdit! Example mod idea inspired by Laughing Octopus from Metal Gear Solid 4. The sword has laser-effects on weapon hit (screenshot on Sarah), so it leaves singe marks, making this guide great for helping you make a lightsaber!

Additional details on what the mod adds: it adds an "Octocamo Suit" that has intimidate and chameleon (the Chameleon effect does not show up, but is coded in so should work) and the "Isn't It Hysterical" Katana that comes with a Furious and Explosive buff. Both items are constructible at the Pharmaceutical station. They make use of the original items' textures (Neon Entertainer Costume and Katana). If you have interest in learning how to add a new texture, let me know, and I could look into making a tutorial on it (post comments on the Youtube video as Nexus does not send me notifications).
Installation
Use Vortex install. Then add the ESM name to your Plugins.txt file, as shown below. I touch on this in the video, with a full guide on how to enable Plugins.txt mods in the following video: https://youtu.be/3ITDeoCPnUI
