That mark is already on the compass; in the hash marks around the planet icon. The only drawback is that mark is not available when the scanner is active.
Is there a way to make it so that unknown locations do not show up, but discovered locations do? That would feel like a good blend between the futuristic scanner tech and the reward for finding things... got me thinking. Thank you!

This means I now have a compass that almost always works as a compass (except when it choses to turn into a thermometer) and leaves scanning to the scanner.
FYI there is already an easy way to get rid of scanner markers. Just use the command "setgs fHandScannerMapMarkerMinRange 0" or set it to run automatically on loading your game or whatever. From what I remember it keeps quest markers visible on the scanner.
Why bother, nothing can change the fact that points of interest are generated for the player on command and all of them are copy / paste. If you have seen one abandoned bio-lab, you've seen all of them. I doubt there is something that can fix this bad and lazy design.
I think it would be good to see no locations on the scanner - that would be more like exploration! But I also prefer mods which make the game MUCH more difficult, make it harder to get credits, ammo or med packs. I dont want to find ammo or med packs everywhere, so I have to craft them. So any mod which makes the game more difficult I like!
this. I travel only in scanner mode. If scanner stops highlighting stuff I may start noticing beautiful or useful things on my own. The less HUD the better
