Ladies, Gentleman, and Non-binaries (wow...I managed to be "politically correct" for once)
Please remember that this mod and forum is for fun and community bonding. It's fine and encouraged to poke a little bit of fun and embrace what makes us different..but also always respect those differences and at the same time celebrate what makes us similar.
At the end of the day...we all play and enjoy Starfield and each of us have the right to make the game as we like it...it's personal preference. It's what modding is all about. It's your game..you do you and love doing it, friends...
So the guy that discovered Aluminium first called it Alumium, then changed it to Aluminum anf then finally to accomodate the endings of other substances he discovered and named (sodium and potassium) he changed it again to Aluminium. So if the guy that invented the word changes it, the changed one is the real one. Or, if you do not accept this logic, the first one is the real one which was Alumium. So no matter what logic you choose to apply, its never Aluminum.
Oh certainly...but if someone is making a stink about it, I wouldn't immediately think it was an Aussie...
From personal experience, all my Aussie friends have been really laid back and just fun to be around. And wow...they can drink...for real. I had serious trouble keeping up... They'd rather say, "Aluminum...yeh, fine, whateva...toss me a beer, mate..." ROFL
This metal was already used mixed (not pure) back in old Greece in a mix called Alum
This metal was first called back in the 1809 Aluminum by a british scientist
The name was changed from Aluminum to Aluminium when harmonizing the elements names, and use the -ium sufix
The element was first discovered back in 1825 by 2 scientist, a danish, and 2 years later, by a german.
In both German and Danish languages this element is called Aluminium.
Conclusion: The metal is scientifically called Aluminium. Only called Aluminum in North American English. Basically, it is wrongly spelled and spoke in one country, and correctly spelled and said everywhere else ^^ hihihi Sorry USA.
made me chuckle ... my (limited) understanding of the history is the actual guy that discovered it himself spelled it BOTH ways (at different times) ...to me it's six of one ...
but my all time personal fave is "lieutenant" pronounced as "LEFF-tenant" .... do you see any "F"s in there? ... cuz I don't see any freakin "F"s
;-)
(... of course, to be fair, no Fs in words like "cough" either)
When I hear/see lieutenant...and hear it said with an F...I immediately ask what's the word's origin. Seems French to me...which would make the F just wrong, I'd think...
My original understanding was that "leftenant" came about because of the historical warring between the English and the French. I figured the English commonly and intentionally pronounced French words and names differently, at least in the past. Lieutenant becomes leftenant, surnames like Beauchamp and Gaillard become Beecham and Gaylord, etc. But genuine interest got me looking into it, and apparently it might actually be because the English's pronunciation of words borrowed from the French just haven't changed to reflect the language as it is today, the version used by we Americans. They instead they use the Middle or even Old French pronunciations of the words, depending on when any given word was adopted.
So if anything's to blame, it's the centuries of historical and cultural conditioning. That'll getcha every time.
Ahh...that would also makes sense. If the officer was on the captain's left...perhaps creating a new reference to reflect it just made good sense at the time.
The explanation regarding the warring environment between the English and French would also make sense. People throughout history have been petty in many things we've done. Banning or changing things out of sheer spite isn't unfathomable...I could definitely accept that explanation if it were factually true.
Colonel...bro..I got laughed at when I was in the 1st grade for pronouncing the "L"....I simply said, "...but that's how it's spelled..."
We have so many exceptions to the general rule in English...it's no wonder it's considered to be one of the hardest languages to get fluent in. One of my fraternity brothers from Spain told me stories about his experiences learning English and we both had a big laugh over the quirks of our language....but the alcohol MAY have made it funnier....just saying. LOL
Just a heads up , American's didn't create the English language or Aluminium or colour , and they have no right to change the spelling of English words or to dictate that everyone else do the same .
First, no one is dictating to you that you have to change your language to use Aluminum...or color...for that matter. We, here in the US where the game was created, call the element Aluminum in accordance with our country's official standards...so that's why it appears that way in the game, but it's not some gigantic conspiracy to FORCE you into adopting the word officially where you live. We don't give a damn about what you use where you are...that's you...and you do you...and it's totally cool with us. We just don't like being told we're wrong because we don't do things the same way. That is a common thread among all Americans dating back to the Revolutionary War...and it hasn't changed. If we, as a nation and culture, are guilty of anything, it would be for trying to bring CHOICE to people...not take it away.
I do agree with some of what you said...but here's another fact you fail to address: English, just like many other languages, evolved from Latin. No Englishman sat down and formulated the English language...and then taught every one of their subjects to speak/write it. That's not the way it happened. The language was dubbed "English" because of the region it was most concentrated in...not because it was "created" or invented there. What was done was "standards" were put forth...the official way to use the language in the country of subject....just like we did here. The language, like MANY others before and beside, evolved over time (from Latin)...and differently in other geographical regions, as languages do. According your your own logic, since no one technically created English, it stands to reason that NO ONE can dictate to anyone else any changes, at all, ever...changes like "correcting" the use of 'Aluminum', for example...which, again, supports my point. Your standards adopted the CHANGE TO Aluminium...ours didn't. Aluminum is correct here..where the game you enjoy was conceived and created. Actually, it would have been wrong to use anything other than the correct standard here where the game was made. I hope that is not too complicated a concept for some to follow...
Oh..and btw...we have EVERY right to decide for ourselves what our standards are where we live. Not the UK nor any other nation on the planet has the right to force their "standards" on us or anyone else...you can offer them, but at the end of the day...we'll decide for ourselves...and we have, very visibly, proven so throughout our short history.
Just a heads up back at you, it was you on the Aluminium side trying to dictate to us your little correction when you labeled our use of Aluminum as an "egregious bug"...not the other way around. So who's trying to dictate and change things? It wasn't us Americans who opened that can of worms to begin with. For me, the issue isn't that you use Aluminium...the issue is that you insist Aluminum is wrong...when it's not...not officially or in any other capacity according to OUR standards. I wouldn't have even felt the need to create this mod if the other one presented it more like a translation mod rather than a bug fix. Like I said in the sticky post above...respect the differences.
The world would be a much better place if people in general could be like this: "Oh...you do it that way...cool...we do it like this..." and just let it end there without trying to "CORRECT" anybody's thoughts, beliefs, or culture. Live and let live, man....that's all....
Fact, the person who discovered and named it ALUMINUM, was a Brit, It was Oxford that decided that the name didn't fit their "traditional naming convention" so they told their british lessers that it should be Aluminium. So on top of Aluminium being factually incorrect its proof that you are fine being told by your betters how to pronounce something the "right way", instead of the way it was named by the person who discovered it. No hate though I can only imagine what the UK commers would be like without Oxford. I imagine it something like "hend ma thar eeluminum phooil muther".
I don't want to argue with Americans, they are the only country that calls football something that's played with hands. How about a mod that translates meters to yards ? LOL
England quite literally came up with the word soccer, and only switched to calling it football ~40 years ago. Soccer as we know it was made by the brits in the 1800's, and football and rugby were seen as wholly different sports, thus the name of 'soccer' to differentiate it from those two. Everyone else calling it football is a modern concept, and only clowns try to get pissy about the linguistic difference when it's American's who are calling it by it's original name. Also the origins of football being called that also comes from the brits and it's called football because of the game being started with a kick off. Foot to the ball. Football. L argument and L hill to die on. Linguistic differences exist, and British English isn't the only correct form of English. Anything else to have a superiority complex about?

That LOL at the end of your comment doesn't disguise the insult.
How are you enjoying that American-made game called Starfield by the way? *rolls eyes*
Now...if you weren't insulting Americans in general...and just trying to insult me personally...then I only need to point this out:
