Since a wakizashi is the short sword, and a katana is a long sword, in the pair of swords that a Samurai wore, your title implies that you made a longer sword model, did you?
No I don't think that's what they meant, Bethesda called it a Wakizashi but Katana is a generic term for a japanese blade. It's logical to use the Katana term so people looking for retextures can find the mod if they look for Katana instead of Wakizashi, even it they're technically different meaning words.
If Katana is a generic term for all Japanese swords no matter the size, then Longsword is a generic term for Western swords, no matter the size. That makes no sense.
The sword in game is already named Wakizashi. If I want to search nexus for replacement textures, I'll search for wakizashi. If I want to find a longer sword (there is at least one mod out for that), I would search for Katana.
When the CK comes out and we get more new weapons, calling a weapon something else than it is is just going to make searching harder.
Chillout dude, while I do get your point, not everyone is a such a huuuge weeb you know. Most people might not even remember the world "wakizashi", not to mention how to spell it correctly... A lot of casual players might just look up "katana" cause that's a way more commonly used name. Just type it in the search bar ans see for yourself.
Just like with your example - most casual players will just look up for a "sword", not a longsword, claymore, broadsword or a rapier. They will simply type in "sword".
"calling a weapon something else than it is is just going to make searching harder." - name of the weapon is literally in the title... again, chill.
Oh yeah, I noticed someone had a similar idea only after I posted it lol. At first I also tried to make the whole sword black but it didn't look right so I figured this could work. I like your idea of adding a little bit of color to it btw.
Thanks, I changed the guard texture with MS Visual Studio, I'm also happy with the way it looks dyed red. Is editing AOs and normals texture complicated ? I only changed the color and Metal textures on my mod.
I rarely had the need to edit .AO in my mods but you save it using the same compression as .metal, .rough etc (bc4u).
Saving normal maps can be tricky tbh. I think I got a specially modified version of Intel Texture Work plugin (for Photoshop) from Discord and I fallowed this tutorial. When it comes to making normal maps itself, photoshop has a special 3d filter for it. You won't have that if u using older version of PS like cs6 or something like that. But I heard there's a plugin for it that could work with older versions of PS.
To be honest I'm more of a MS paint user, I don't have photoshop. I also tried Paint.net recently. But I manage to make my texture files with MS visual Studio, I don't think I'll try making an AO if you need specific plugins to edit it. I think I'll just stick to color, metal, rough and decal these one I understand what I'm doing, more ore less ^^

cry about it? useless commentary. people are going to use katana when looking for a ninja sword.
Good work
