As an actual SPAS-12 owner, I can tell you that the guns are primarily designed as semi-automatic firearms, not pump-action. The pump mode is for cycling weak loads like birdshot that aren't powerful enough to cycle the action automatically. It's also used for loading specialized ammunition without unloading all of the lethal rounds in the weapon first. There is an additional magazine tube interrupt switch to help aid in that process.
The reason you always see these guns used as pump shotguns in films like Jurassic Park is due to the blanks being unable to cycle the action of the weapon on their own. Plus, there is an argument to be made for the pump mode being used for dramatic effect but the gun is not supposed to be used in that manner in most instances.
In other words, it would be cool to see two versions of the mod, one of which should be a semi-auto. Although, I know a different gun would have to be replaced to do that since the old Earth shotgun is a pump.
Yes the Pacifier seems a good option for a semi auto shotgun, you could ask the Spas 12 replacer mod author if he could make one (though the Pacifier animation would need to work with the SPAS 12, don't know if it's a good fit). I just updated the pump sound and added the Silencer ( and I know this kind of design is not realistic, I just think it looks cool), I don't know the original mod author but I think he did a good work porting the gun, the Spas can be used with the pump IRL so at least it's not an heresy ^^
Stand alone guns will appear when the tools to create them will be ready, and then a semi auto shotgun will be available but we have to wait. May I have your opinion on the pump sound as a Spas owner ? You can check the video or install the mod to hear it, I'm curious what you think of it :)
I do like the suppressor as it has that classic Hollywood look. But to effectively get an actual suppressed 12ga that could be fired indoors it would almost most likely require a full length barrel suppressor like the AS-VAL rifle. You'd need to fire a nice big slug or a similar load that would attempt to keep the expanding gas behind the projectile until it could enter the baffles, of course.
But I've been told by a friend that you can get a Saiga modified to be about the same as a ".22 to .9mm pistol decibel-wise," based on the load. I must state that he often exagurates a lot, but I've seen custom shotguns that achieved this before. He said the "bullet" weight would also come into play here. If you use a lighter projectile then you can use less powder and thus have less of a report (bang), similar to sub-sonic ammo which is the proper ammo to use for any suppressed weapon.
In this case, I would probably create my own ammo and experiment. Would probably require reloading the weapon after every shot so a pump-action as the poster stated above, would be your best bet. Pump-action shotguns are the goto when it comes to shooting just about anything. The only other rifle that can beat it is a single or double-barrel shotgun designed to fire elephant or worse, stopping loads, which are just giant "bullets." I guess you could consider this a crude rifle for close range situations or indoor shooting.
Unless you're some kind of hitman or don't have access to an outdoor range then a suppressor makes sense. In game I always take the stealth approach in games as far back as I can remember. So a suppressed shotgun can make short work of hostile humans and creatures. And thanks to Hollywood, we can have them!
As for the SPAS-12, I have always wanted to get one and almost have multiple times. But I had my reasons and instead went with Benelli. They're a lot easier to mod and re-sell. A SPAS-12, to me, is the Lamborghini of shotguns even though there are better ones out there. It's been made famous/infamous just like AK's, Glock's, AR-15s, and the .50 DE. I owned a .44 DE for not even 3 months before I talked a friend into buying it off me. I used every trick in the book especially appealing to his ego of owning a hand cannon and showing it off. It was one of my most regrettable firearm/other weapon purchases ever!
However, this is a game and not RL so seeing the Pancor and other unique weapons would be great. I think a HK CAWS could be achieved with the Breach easily. and it wouldn't look like a laser rifle. People are doing ARs to replace the A99 and Maelstrom but why not the Old Earth Assault rifle and Hunting rifles? Also, where are the LMG Microgun replacers?
Hello thanks for your comment it was an interesting read. For weapon mods I would recommend sabbath7991. I use his Rugger Mk4, AK 47S, NV4 assault Rifle for the Sci Fi esthetic ( I also used their Tony Montana M16, better if you want a more realistic firearm ) and the mac 10.
About shoting I don't own any firearms cause I don't have the motivation to go to a shooting range, but I love to plink with airsoft 6 mm BB replicas. I've got a designated space where I plink a home and it's a lot of fun. I've got a full metal Gas Blow Back Desert Eagle, an old school grey CO2 1911, a black Hi Capa with a red dot, an 8 inch barell CO2 revolver also with a red dot, a CO2 Walther P99, Electric mp5 and AR 15 with red dots, an AAP01 with a barska style sight (kind of a Rugger Mk 4 inspired design, it ca shoot full auto it's a lot of fun for an handgun replica), and finally a bolt action replica inspired by the Accuracy International AX. It's great be able to have fun with these and I don't risk hurting myself or someone else, and I can do it in the comfort of my Home. I just wear protection glasses and there's nearly no risk involved as long as I respect basic safety precautions. I'm kind of a gun nut even if I leave in France and it's not a Gun Lover Country :D
I'd love to add new weapons to the game but I've got no skills in 3d modeling and it's mandatory for this kind of project. Maybe I could try to make a melee weapon replacer to learn but it seems complex, my suppressor mod was basic texture and sound editing and making the 3d model bigger, not as complex as a full weapon mod. I'll send a message to the original Spas 12 mod author to ask him about doing a semi auto version, it's been asked a lot and seems like a good and reasonable idea but with Starfield Simple things can sometimes be not so simple ^^
You know as a matter of fact I use those same mods, lol. I also use TG's newest A99 replacer, the M41A Pulse rifle that can be converted into a shotgun, AR, and sniper rifle at the weapons bench. Would also be nice to have some extra options for the shotgun magazine mod slot. would be nice to have short range incendiary and riot slugs that do a good amount of em damage, at least to humans. When CK comes the flood gates will open.
I may try to make gun mods in the future but I'm not sure I'll have the skills necessary to make one. I'll check the pulse rifle soon looks really cool :D
Patience and frustration have been joining hands in holy matrimony throughout my experience of working on sounds thus far hahaha. I'm downloading it now and I'll give you some feedback, if it needs it. But rn from the video it sounds awesome!
Everything should work like in the video so thank you :D Yep frustration is the word, but it's also pleasant when everything clicks in the end. I'm not a native English speaker so understanding that the right file is called bolt charge for actioning the pump, it took a bit of time in these thousands of files. At least I know a bit about firearms through video games and curiosity and got it eventually.
Yeah the little knowledge of guns from past games has been surprisingly helpful lmao. I thought that was pointless information sitting around in there. It's a lot time listening to random sounds until you find the ONE
