Crash to desktop when entering orbit. "EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" at 0x7FFAEE801890 VCRUNTIME140.dll+0011890 memsetThe first crash happened a month ago. I did everything I could to debug it, but nothing fixed it, so I found a four-week-old save where it was not happening and played on from there. A month later, it's baaaaaaack; same DLL, same offset, same memset routine. Oh, of course, now it's happening with a new Starfield version. I have tried a lot to fix it:
Disabled all mods (then reenabled enough to get the game to start with the broken save).
Updated/reinstalled VCRUNTIME.
Rebuilt shader caches.
Downgraded Starfield to an earlier version and upgraded to a newer version.
Tried downgrading and upgrading AMD video driver versions.
Tried to enter orbit with different ships.
Tried to enter orbit without crew and companions.
Tried to go into different locations in space (e.g., fast travel directly to space stations and different planets and systems).
Verified the integrity of game files.
Verified the integrity of Windows files.
I can still play the game, in a way, as long as I don't need to do anything in space. Whenever I enter space, I get these crash dumpsCan anyone suggest what I should do now?
This thing actually works. Game must shut down on its own for it to work. If your game is stuck and you kill it trough task manager no log will be generated
What to do with these logs tho? I asked GPT AI and in my case error pointed to some memory access violation or something. No idea. I need to find crash log analyzer now
Just getting same ctd issue as well with (Unhandled exception "EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" at 0x7FF7BB9E9C88 Starfield.exe+22E9C88) ,yet not a clue how to find the root of crashing issues. I'm just crashing always after i get killed and/or loading a save while in game. I guess time to disable mods one by one, the old good way.
@MindDoser, I'm getting the same issue and not sure why. From what I can gather the game is trying to find an address that's not there so check and .dll plugin
@MindDoser Had this same issue for a couple of updates now. It was Skill Fixes no challenges for me. The crash was happening every time I spoke to an NPC on a planet and they gave me a random quest. Just talking to the NPC caused the issue. The game wouldn't ctd until I tried to load a save made after speaking to the NPC. Not sure if that is a mod you are using though.
Still can't get it to work. I have the FO4 version on an installation of Lively's "Magnum Opus" Wabbajack modlist, and the few times it's crashed, it works, opens up postmortem and launches notepad++ with the crash log, but nothing of the sort with Starfield.
The wabbajack install tells me that it runs fine with Mod Organizer 2's virtual file structure, so it's not 100% necessary to have the DLL in the main Steamlibrary directory.
I've managed to track down one issue where Starfield would lock my PC hard, requiring a hard reboot - there was an issue with my Windows installation that finally manifested a crash log, so I created a bootable thumb drive to reinstall Win11 clean, and now instead of hard locking, it CTDs, so that's an improvement. I was hoping that this tool could give me some idea of what/where to look at next. It's maddening, because the crashing seems almost capricious. The game will run fine for an hour or more, then it'll crash every five minutes, or crash loading a savegame. multiple tickets with bethsoft have gone nowhere... getting ready to toss this box off a highrise roof top.
The plot thickens... Just had another crash, and this one didn't blackscreen on me, and Trainwreck did it's thing...
This is actually quite helpful since now I know that the black screen issues are probably GPU related. Whether it's hardware or a driver issue remains to be seen.
I'm in the same bot as AdYestSatana, I'm not seeing any crashlogs anywhere. I use Mod Organizer 2, and I've checked the SFSE subdirectory in the Overwrite directory, where SFSE, Lumin and the other DLL based mods store their logs, as well as the Documents\MyGames\Starfield\SFSE directory where the same mods make copies, and no crashlogs.
Also, if the failure mode is the game freezes the PC completely, requiring a hard reset, will there be any logs written? I've been trimming mods to see if it's one or a combination of mods causing the freezing issue, and now I'm getting occasional CTDs rather than a system freeze requiring a hard reset.
Good evening, I have been crashing during the initial scenes of the game, before you find the artifact. I have no idea how to figure out what the probable cause stack is actually referencing... Due to the post below, i tried without baka acheivement enabler and i still ctd... this time on reloading after dying. second pastebin link.
im well aware that my load order needs work... still trying to figure out what im keeping and what im dropping... i would not be surprised if the ctd is related. had no issues prior to update. while waiting, added the starfield extended content for testing, might be one of these as well. all ctds were on new games created just for the purpose of testing, first the new mods, then the ctd...
edited note: not sure why, but on every crash the crash logger freezes up and i have to press the X in top right corner to get it to close. has been that way since first install.

I installed the mod in Documents\My Games\Starfield\SFSE\Plugins
Is this right?
\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Starfield\Data\
Ensure you have SFSE installed of course.

All of my mods are up to date as well. I can't find any indication of what mod(s) may be causing it in the crash log.
