(Optional) Install Vortex or MO2 if you know what you are doing
Install all-in-one package if you have Vortex or MO2 installed, otherwise manually install your standalone package of choice into your Starfield > Data directory.
(Optional) If you are manually installing a patch, install it after the controller AND THE MOD YOU ARE PATCHING (e.g. Icon Sorting Tags) and say YES to replace any files. Example install/load order: Icon Sorting Tags > PS5 DualSense > Icon Sorting Tags Patch
Starfield has changed how modding loose files works. If a standard auto-install isn't working, please read this link: https://modding.wiki/en/starfield/users/loose-file-modding. If installed mods aren't working and you've already taken the steps to enable modding with StarfieldCustom.ini, it's necessary to install mods manually by placing the mods Data folder in Documents > My Games > Starfield INSTEAD of the normal Steam game directory. Currently Vortex does not support this with auto-installs.
Thanks to Conseated for bringing this to my attention.
Hey new to modding. Everything seems to work well but my options and create button are reversed in game and they seem to be the only buttons that I cant change the binding on. Any ideas? I am playing the Steam edition if that matters.
I really like this better than the other PS5 controller mod..
Just adjust if you can as you said: Install the patch and make sure to load this mod after Icon Sorting Tags.
However, when in vortex, vortex suggests that this mod load BEFORE icon sorting tags... (likely vortex issue). But just letting you konw.. Maybe highlight in instructions..
Thank you so much for this mod. I was using a different one since day 1 but it broke my 60fps ship reticle mod. But today after a few battles, I really got annoyed with the damn 15fps of virtually everything in space, it is infuriating, like a lot of things. Just really glad that modding is pretty straightforward when you know where to put your stuff. Mind, that's the same for everything!
Hi TheShoxter thanks for your mod it's perfect. By any chance do you know if there is a way to force gamepad button prompts even when keyboard or mouse inputs are made ? I'm using a few keyboard inputs and i would like the hud to stop switching back and forth but i couldn't find a way yet..
I'm not totally sure on the technical side if forcing button prompts is possible yet. But I have received this request from others, so I will look into it and see if it's something I can add as an optional feature.
Unfortunately, disabling Controller Hot Swap just prevents the buttons from showing at all, not the other way around. I think this functionality requires the SFSE to mature a bit before we can implement it.
I'm a total mod newbie but this one completely lost me. There are so many files in the download and there's no indication which one/s I actually need. Is it the whole downloaded folder? Just one specific .swf file? Something in between? No idea.
I know my custom.ini file is set up correctly, because my enhanced subtitles and dialog mods are working normally. I had to use a different PS5 icons mod in the end (which also works much more simply).
There's some instructions buried deep in these threads but nothing I found helped. It would be appreciated if you could update your description with simple and specific instructions for manual installation.
Hello, the All-in-one installer is made for Mod Managers. If you install that with a mod manager, then you have a guided installation process that is very simple. If you are installing mods manually, than you need to choose one of the optional packages.
You should not be installing an all-in-one package manually, because it's programmed for a mod manager.
I have the installation instructions provided on the main description.
It's incredible how game devs still haven't realized that there is also other controllers besides the Xbox ones. A PS5 controller works totally fine under Win10, Steam is officially supporting all the Dualsense features. So why is it, that 50% of all games coming out today still don't support the PS button layout? I get it, Bethesda is closely tied in Microsoft, but still... give us all the button layouts, please!
I totally agree, it's an accessibility issue that they should all take seriously without bias. This case is even more egregious when you see that Bethesda already included the PlayStation icons in the game, they just aren't enabled :(

This stops it flipping between controller and keyboard symbols, but I haven't tried it.

Speaking of accessibility though, any chance you could make a patch for Accessibility Fonts?
