I used the following console commands myself to improve my VSS, your choice to use or not.... just target VSS in console and use command as long as WEAP is shown for targeted VSS should work, always save before just in case of "BGS (it just works)"
open console"`" enter..... amod 12A783;; Long Scope 8x magnification amod 1230C6;; Drum magazine
There is a list of these can make some truely ugly weapons but seems to work by switching properties and shown mods. These same "amods" used on standard AK will give a drum mag (shown) and 8x magnification when ADS but no scope shown on weapon model. Hope that helps
