Why is it that the background file appears on top of our content? I see the stars on top of our character in that one screenshot. This is extremely annoying. Is there a way to fix it?
It's an issue with the way the background works in the tab menu, I'd like to fix it but there's a transparency issue in the interface file, I did not choose to make it that way that's how the game works. I would advise you not to use it until I fix it, If I find a fix I'll keep you updated. You can remove Data/Interface/datamenu.swf to get the vanilla black menu back.
There is no problem with the Milky Way Pause Menu Background, only the optional tab menu file does that.
Edit: I updated the Mod's details about how to manually remove the mod's datamenu.swf file, sorry for the inconvenience.
I've made a new Tab Menu Improved Transparency version, the image is still on top but darker, let me know if you think it's better. You can see a preview it's the 4th image.
Please don't take it the wrong way, I didn't mean to scrutinize. I highly appreciate the efforts put in by all mod creators, especially during these infancy months of Starfield. I certainly do not hold you responsible for my inconvenience :)
But information is highly appreciated. Now I understand that Bethesda somehow wants to put this image on top of our content. Strange! I will try out your new file or consider removing datamenu.swf if it is indeed causing issue.
Thanks ! Don't worry I was not taking your comment badly, I always enjoy constructive criticism and ideas to improve my mods :D
I supposed Bethesda decided to make the menu on top because it's not noticeable with a black background, you only see it once you add a picture. But stars are Okay IMO, I think using a darker image improve the usability a lot.
I managed to make a satisfying version of my datamenu mod thanks to your feedback, that's cool in my book :D
Got an issue with that file, I renamed a .bk1 file as a .bk2 and I think that's the reason it was flagged as an unsafe files. Had to remove it to avoid looking like someone spreading bad files, but did not find a way to erase it properly. Sorry for the inconvenience in Vortex, what do you think I should do to solve the issue ?
I would recommand using CRT - Main Menu (Nebula Loop) (https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/2242), It's a moving render of the milky way, great pair with my Pause Menu file. If you really need it I could try to make a proper .bk2 for the main menu but I think CRT - Main Menu (Nebula Loop) is superior to the file I had to delete.
Not sure since I'm not seeing a "Delete" for individual files, just entire mods which would not be ideal in this situation. May have to contact support to have it removed entirely. Since it's archived, Vortex shouldn't even be checking it. No biggie, I just uninstalled that particular file and kept the others. I'll check out CRT. Thanks!
You want a 21:9 aspect ratio for the pause menu file ? Not sure how to do it I have a classic 1080p monitor, what would be the ideal image size in pixels ? I'll see what I can do
Could we get this, or even better, a different space background for the character menu please? Great mod btw, I hate how it's straight black. It's so boring.
Thanks ! I agree the black background looks a bit boring, that's why I decided to make this simple mod :D
I added an option for the main menu background, but I don't know what file to mod for the character menu, I'll look into it but not sure how to make it. Have a nice day
Thanks for these. A simple background, not a copy/paste from another game. If I wanted to see those backgrounds, I'd go play those game.
One small suggestion since you said this is your first mod here. You may want to consider putting the main screen as an "optional" file instead of a "miscellaneous". Typically the latter is used for utility files (patches, ini files, etc.), so some people (like me) don't even look at that section for optional mod stuff.
Thanks ! I made one for the main menu, you can find it in Optional files. If you want something more fleshed out try CRT - Main Menu (Nebula Loop), it's the mod that inspired me to make this one.
You should clarify the download folder. Not everyone know which data folder is ment ;) Textures belongs to the mydocuments data folder (except you have mods for this).
Okay thanks for the advice I'll edit my install infos. When I Installed the "pausebackgroundassets.swf" file in my document data folder it disabled my other interface mods, maybe a compatibility issue, it resolved putting it in the steam game install folder. What do you think I should do ?
Yes, it works in my Steam data folder. The issue with the document\my games folder is compatibility with other interface mods, the milky way would work but StarUI stopped working. I always put Texture and Meshes mods in the Document Folder, but in my experience Intreface mods like starUI and or my Milky Way mod are installed in my steam folder.
That's strange, in doesn't work for me in steam data, only in mygames. Nearly all mods work only there. I have StarUI too and it works well with your mod. Idk what Bethesda did, it was always so simpel xD
Thanks for your feedback, that's puzzling but I'm glad you could make it work. It may have to do with the ini files, I added bInvalidateOlderFiles=1 to my original starfield.ini, but that's just a supposition. I've changed my install info based on my files, but I may have to change it if your case is what most people experience, and mine is just an oddity, idk. Hope I'll get more feedback.

- Backup both Data folders first (just in case something goes wrong).
- Merge Data folder from Document to Data folder in Steam folder.
- Symlink this Data folder from Steam to Document.
This will trick Windows, and the game, to think there is another Data folder there. You can freely use Vortex to install mods now.
