Another idea is a green screen based 'power' that retextures the personal atmosphere into a green sphere, this way in first person view, everything at close range fits into the bubble but everything outside isn't.
You can do a 'first person view' of another scene in the background.
With space travel you can change the skybox of space to become a green screen. People can use that to make ingame clips of gameplay mixed with star wars space battles or something.
Like sitting in front of a ship window and you have a 'space battle' of a death star blowing up in the background.
