I make synthwave / electronic / EDM music under the name Vogel that goes great with Starfield and would love it if you had a listen and gave me a follow on Instagram!
PLEASE NOTE: Hostile and argumentative comments will be removed. Let's all be nice here and enjoy this wonderful game!
Q: What's in the update(s)? A: On the description page you can expand the Changelogs strip to see the... changelogs. Alternately, you can click the version number in the Files page which will bring you to the same place.
Q: The game update broke the mod! A: The recent game update has erased some people's INI files, disabling mods. You just have to re-add the missing information over again to your INIs.
Q: I am confused by the requirements A: This mod has no requirements. The requirements listed are mods that require THIS mod! The way Nexus lays that out is a bit confusing but if you look close at the headers you'll see.
Q: I am new to modding, help plz? A: Here are some videos to help you get mods installed!
Q: It's not working for me, what can I do? A: We're in the wild frontier of Starfield mods so things are going to be bumpy for a while, so be patient ✨ You can try:
Double check the files are installed in the correct place. See description for paths.
Make sure your StarfieldCustom.ini is in the correct place, is named correctly, and does not contain any spaces or tabs in the values. You can download the example INI from the optional files if you're having trouble.
Check the comments! LOTS of helpful people here have solved every crazy scenario and are willing to help 😊
Q: Will this disable achievements? No, it's a texture replacer which are safe. Mods that disable achievements will give you a warning when you load your save and will mark it with "MODDED" so you'll know if something does.
Q: Can you make a version that only affects interiors / specific areas? A: Yes, I am currently refining this as I play the game. There will be an optional version with hand-picked and tweaked colors coming soon.
While you wait, check out these alternatives to this mod, these dial the effects down in different ways and may better suit your taste!
Q: Does this affect performance? A: No. It's just tweaking texture files that are already present in the game. It is not a new post-processing filter like a ReShade would be.
Q: XYZ area looks weird/bad A: Because this is a sledgehammer approach that was more of a utility, there will be some areas where things may not look right. Please feel free to drop a comment in the bugs section under the LOCATIONS bug with the area that looks strange. As I play through the game I'll be tweaking these.
Q: How can I revert a specific location? If you don't like how a certain area looks you can delete the corresponding LUT .dds file from where you installed the files. They usually have the name of the location, i.e. Neon in the file name. It's just texture files so don't be afraid to experiment.
Q: How did you make this? Powershell copy commands. I didn't make anything new, just copied the base game's existing neutral LUT texture over top the others.
This was the fix for me (running Game Pass / Xbox Games version):
Place all the loose files into your users "My Games \ Starfield" folder as the mod requires (i.e. \User\Documents\My Games\Starfield)
However, when the instructions say to create a new StarfieldCustom.ini file inside the Starfield folder, don't. I was unable to get this to work. Instead head to the game folder (default is C:\Xbox Games\Starfield\Content). Inside there open up the Starfield.ini file. You will see an [Archive] section with a lot of info under it. Hit enter on the line below the [Archive] heading, and place the invalidate line from the instructions like so:
[Archive] bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
Leave everything else alone, and save the file.
This worked like a charm for me. Hope this helps. :)
Edit: uploaded before/after images for reference that it worked for me.
Hello, I had never created a comment but today it deserves it. first thank the creator because it works and in an excellent way. second, I use game pass and the path to follow to install and if the mod works is in my case: "your_letter:\Documents\My Games\Starfield\Data\Textures\effects\LUTs" greetings and thanks!!
Ok, just made it work on the Steam version after trying a bazzilion different things, so here's the rundown. Will probably be the same on Gamepass.
The final thing is what made it work, it's weird and it possibly would have been enough given it's nature, but I'll list everything just to be through.
1. I'm using Baka Disable My Games Folder, so the mod was installed in the game's folder, not My Documents.
2. Disabled the NVIDIA cache at C:/Users/[username]/AppData/Local/NVIDIA/DXCache by creating another folder called "DXCache(old)", moving (not copying, use ctrl+x instead of ctrl+c) the files from the cache folder to the old one. Some files will nor be moves because they'll be in use by some Nvidia app, but that's fine.
3. Disabled the shader cache from C:/Users/[username]/AppData/Local/Starfield by renaming the Pipeline.cache file to Pipeline(old).cache. This will force the game to rebuild the shader cache on startup
4. And that's the thing that would probably work on it's own. If you copy the "bInvalidateOlderFiles=1" from the site, possibly from anywhere, and apste it in an INI, it will, somehow carry over a font tag or something and will not work. So go to your StarfieldCustom.ini in the usual place AND the Starfield.ini in the game's installation folder and type that manually. Delete the line you have, leave a black space beneath [Archive], open another notepad window with a blank file and type it yourself. Double, triple check for typos.
Because of that, there's a high possibility of every single ini edit you did by copying from the site to have this weird tag. You can do the same and type everything in a blank notepad window and copy from there.
Skipped step 2 because I have an AMD instead, anyway I have no idea which of these steps precisely worked, but I followed everything in steps 3 and 4 and FINALLY it works! Fucking lifesaver thank you. I'm not long into the game, and the gross green filter at New Atlantis was already killing me. Does Bethesda have a strange obsession with that or what? Fallout 3 green filter nightmares (that I also removed with a mod back then)
You know it never really bothered me because I got to NG+7 on my Xbox before I bought it on Steam... And now that I can mod I am so downloading this omg Also, I like your music!
A lot of people requested that the ship interior be left alone, so that was reverted and untouched by the mod now. What you can do, is go into the \disabled\ folder and copy lgt_lut_int_shipkit_curve.dds into the parent \LUT\ folder and see how you like it. Can move it back to \disabled\ if you don't.
I can't find anything that can do the right file for vortex to connect to starfield mod. Local Disk (C:) Program Files (x86) > Steam > steamapps > common > Starfield. It said, "The destination folder has to be empty."
This was a great mod... But after Bethesda's lighting update, it made this mod way too bright so I had to uninstall it... Bethesda's lighting update seems to do for me now, what this mod used to do...
Let me know what you think... I'm actually curious because obviously everyone has a different setup. When I first started using this Mod, I was using an Intel ARC A770 16GB GPU on a 5 year old 2560x1440 screen without HDR support... Then after Bethesda released their "lighting update" ... I had replaced it with a Radeon RX 7800XT Nitro and a new Ultrawide 3440x1440 screen, with HDR support.... so the whole game looked massively different to me after their Lighting Update.
When are we going to move past these awful filters just slapped over games? Deus Ex is still notorious as one of the worst offenders with its piss filter, but Starfields straight up ruins the colours for no reason.

If you have onedrive installed. It will not work on default "\User\Documents\My Games\Starfield"
Use OneDrive location instead:
C:\Users\YOUR_USER\OneDrive\Documents\My Games\Starfield\Data

But seriosly - Thank you, dude!! After going crazy and trying everything, your post/guide is what helped me finally get rid of that horrible filter!
Also, I like your music!
otherwise this mod is on of the best
sorry for my bad englich
Edit: May have been just that area.
