My machine has been weird lately. I cant even watch HD youtube on my other monitor while gaming without the video dropping frames, which baffles me. Probs time to reinstall windows.
If you're running on W11, then that might be something worth looking into. From my experience, the longer I use W11, the more it'll break overtime by itself (e.g., shell crashing, everything stops working aside from the mouse cursor, delays in opening Start Menu & Notification Centre).
From a quick look, those aren't using Bink 2 (which is significantly better over Bink 1 as Bink 1 has been obsolete for a long time, but it's free). There are some other benefits too, like full range colours with Bink 2.
I would have to compare both of them to find out more.
Thx for your reply! Looks like I was right - your version is visually better! Will you make UWHD version? It is the only factor that is keeping me with the version I mentioned...
Ok, so your version runs smoother and eats less memory. Unfortunately, it leaves black lines along the sides of my screen - mine is 21:9, so without cropping it is buggin me too much! So I really like your version, but will stay with the cropped one. Tracking this thread in hopes of having a cropped version in the near future 8)) Cheers!
Ok, so your version runs smoother and eats less memory.
That is to be expected as Bink 2 is better all around compared to the obsolete Bink 1. Plus, Bink 2 has better multithreaded support.
As for the 21:9 support, let me get more opinions on whether a cropped version for 21:9 is acceptable for people to use. Although, it will look like it's zoomed in. The only FMV that I can kinda guarantee to have somewhat native 21:9 is the Bethesda Logo.
Can you make at least MainMenuLoop.bk2 cropped? I tried, but I can only make bink1 - I don't have subscription. Sorry to bother you. Even if you can't or wo't - ok with me. You've done great work already!
Hmm okay, so I have had a look at theoretically converting 16:9 to 21:9, and while the frames are zoomed it, it is not that bad. So, I'll release 21:9 background main menu soon, and do the rest after the release of 8K FMVs. However, I will only work on 4K 21:9, nothing else, due to the amount of time it'll take otherwise.
See under 'Files' tab, I've released 21:9 Main Menu background, let me know what you think.
Ok, somehow, this version not only gives me black borders on the sides, but also over and under. Could you try to make it 3440x1440? And again, really appreciate your work and time!
I think the main menu only supports 16:9 aspect ratio, so anything bigger/wider just gets squished down into that aspect ratio container. I've had a similar problem with someone else's UW 1440p main menu replacer.
Skyline330 must be right. That would just make more sense. I’ve seen similar bugs happen but occurred due to the aspect ratio the game is forcing Bink to render in.
I was dumb enough to delete another 3440x1440 version of it, which worked perfectly aspect ratio wise. So I've seen it is possible, but have no example - this file was deleted from the original mod
Ok, but I am going to work on UW FMVs after 8K FMVs, because firstly, I could be here all day trying to work UW, and secondly, I don't have an ultra-wide monitor to conduct my tests on.
But from the sounds of it, in terms of the black pillarboxes and letterboxes, it seems like the main menu background wasn't properly exported and encoded to Bink (as to be expected to someone who rarely sleeps nowadays ).
Of course! Only when you have free time! It is already very good of you thaat you spend your time on our requests! Will be patiently waiting. Also, if you need faast tests, you can contact me via tlegram, i will conduct them ASAP. Pm me, I will give you my contaact. If you need help, of course!
This is how Ultra-Wide MainMenuLoop.bk2 looks like on my 3440x1440 21:9 monitor. I think in order to use different aspect ratio videos, those have to be of precise dimensions
After some research I found out that the reason why we can't at the moment have a proper 21:9 video playback in the game is the fact that all menus are made 16:7 (1920x1080 if to be exact) I tried to change pause menu (it is the easiest to change) - no luck. It is not only that all menus are 16:7 but also the zero point for them is fixed at about 760th pixel from the left side of the screen. So even if I sucsessfuly changed ressolution (to my 3440x1440), the bounding box shrinkss the image.
Bottom line - at the moment I couldn't find a way to change main menu video background bounding box, so 21:9 proper playback is not possible. Hopefully only for now.
Not sure why I was not notified about any new replies. But yeah, I would have suspected that would have been the case, cos like I have said previously iirc, there were few other games that had similar main menu video restrictions.
Do you think there's any point whatsoever of using 8K on a 32" 1440p monitor?
No, I don't think so either. *downloads anyway*
Edit: I'm so confused -- I tried to download the 8K version, but somehow ended up with an 801 MB version of it? Strange. Second attempt appears to be downloading correctly.
In all seriousness, when it comes to Bink, higher resolution videos are always going to look somewhat better than the native monitor resolution videos. In a couple of instances, it can make the videos look lossless-like in terms of the visual quality. Although, Bink is always going to suck badly, with dark scenes that contain light sources that'll light up the scene immediately.
Yeah, it'll likely look a bit better -- though I'm sure relatively speaking, I wouldn't notice unless I watched them side by side. But hey, I didn't resub Premium for nothing!
Edit: Just noticed the "EndingVision" is almost 1.8GB on its own... SPOILERS! :P
EndingVision was a tricky one. Initially, it would've been about 2.21 GB, but then, the FMV wouldn't play back in-game, as it's going beyond the 2 GB limit, imposed by Bink (although few games has broken it). Therefore, the bitrate is somewhat lower.
I am new and tried to verify the files by your instructions but I think I did not do it right as none of the 36 files were detected. In your instructions you say to "Go into the QuickSFV folder, and extract the files (QuickSFV.EXE, QSFVShll.dll, and It just works.sfv) next to where you have extracted the 'Data' folder." I am using 7zip and clicked on your Data folder, then clicked on the "Extract" button in zip and extracted it to my desktop into a folder titled Bink 2.8. Then I did the same with a new folder on my desktop called QuickSFV. Then clicked on the QuckSFV.exe, then It just works.sfv and got zero files found. I even put the QuickSFV folder into the "Data" folder with the same result. Please let me know if this is correct and I just had a zero failed download. Otherwise, I will make the correction or try to download this again. Thanks a lot.
Well, then, I can't get this mod to download any of the files as I have made several attempts and keep getting the same result: "FAILED: The file does not exist" and "There were 36 files missing". I have the Data and QuickSFV folders in the same folder on my desktop, I then clicked on the .exe file, then the It just work.sfv file. I must be doing it wrong. But, I can't get any specific guidance as someone who has never done this before. Thanks anyway. Edit: I used JDownloader and my first download of this mod was successful. JDownloader instructions were easy to follow....

Third-party download managers are always recommended, especially with large file downloads. I am not sure about JDownloader, but Internet Download Manager (IDM) verifies file downloads when the download is complete, to ensure the file is completely downloaded successfully.
I have the Data and QuickSFV folders in the same folder on my desktop
That's the problem. The files in QuickSFV needs to be on the desktop (in your case). QuickSFV itself, needs to be next to the Data folder, or whatever folder/files it'll need to verify, it cannot be located in a separate folder or location. It's just the way QuickSFV works.
Thank you for your work! I am curious though before I install, the readme says:
"This will not play properly in-game if you use any mods that disables the logo video from playing"
Why is this please, I am using a mod that skips all the startup vids like the bethesda logo. I'm just being careful not to mess up a cutscene on my first playthrough. Thanks again
Thank you for the reply, so if I am understanding correctly then I need to enable the Bethesda Logo splash video at game launch, otherwise I will have issues with your mod? (which I will happily do, thanks again for your hard work!).
It's not necessary to re-enable the Bethesda Logo. That is entirely your choice. With this mod, the rest of the FMVs would carry on working as normal, except for the Bethesda Logo.
Got these set up last night. Really great QoL! I copied all the original videos into a backup folder in case something went wrong, then overwrote the originals with these. Working perfectly!
hoi, where is the cutscene located originally in the game? As i want to help making upscales too, but also interpolations of fps past 60. Unless we can join forces, where you provide the upscales, while i provide the interpolations, but interpolated to 120 fps and higher.
Or, if you don't wanna tennis the files back and forth, could you tell me where the videos are located? Then i can upscale and interpolate past 60.
Don’t want to burst your bubble there, but Bink officially supports 60 FPS playback maximally. RAD Video Tools can handle higher FPS, but games cannot, I have tested this before.
The game would lock the Bink player at 60 FPS internally, causing (for example) 120fps videos to play in slo-mo.
Cutscenes are located in the video folder within Starfield - Data.
Thanks :) And that's too bad :( Cause i already interpolated kena to 240hz lol. Just forgot completely about it. Sad to know i can just delete those now lol.
Hate how bink is even still a thing and not using something a bit more modern.
To be honest, I wonder the same. Bink only does few things well like low memory requirements, retaining good frame quality despite low bitrates, being lightweight and such.
although, some games have weird implementation of Bink that it’ll affect the ability to render higher resolution or FPS videos in-game. Those games offends me severely.

Encode and release 8K 60 FPS FMVs. — Done.Encode and release 4K Ultra-Wide 60 FPS FMVs [21:9 only, zoomed and cropped accordingly] – Done.If anyone has a custom background they want me to remaster and frame interpolate to 60 FPS, let me know. I will be accepting this specific request.
I have added some information regarding about Bink 2, and why it's an overall improvement.
The scene where you drive away with the train on New Atlantis still looks like lower 30fps - could this maybe somehow optimized?
Greetings
Anyone else with similar specs having this issue?
What are the difference with UHD4K 60 FPS FMVS? I use UWHD version (3440x1440), will it be a big difference, if I replace them with yours? Thx!
