Bethesda's continued usage of the essential NPC system is insanely lazy, outdated design methodology. They advertise themselves as being about player freedom but their systems are so shallow and restricted that I think they're just outright lying at this point.
Someone leaked the game and two of my worst problems were shown in the clip. Some vendor seemed like a essential NPC and terrible gunplay, copy and paste from fallout 4.
this is just honestly insane. EVER SINGLE named npc is essential. i started my playthrough on PC but then switched to my console cus i like to lay down and play on my bed but now i severely regret it because my immersion is just now completely broken and i can’t download this mod on xbox yet (if ever). i have never seen bethesda do it this bad. usually some essentials here and there but in this game there are more essential NPCs then not and it is absolutely f*#@ing absurd.
Not about freedom, it is about controlling the player's experience. Hence why they have a lot of identity politics in it. Mods hopefully can save this game... Modders make ALL Bethesda's games playable, they are friggin awesome!
I can confirm Tom Starrett is killable without the mod.
But yeah, hopefully this changes once the "official" mod tools come out and we see more diverse paths... I'm assuming they do it to make sure quests can't be dead-ended, but eh.
Worked flawlessly. Well I just copied into my StarfieldCustom.ini and the StarfieldCustom.ini in my Mo2 profile and the npc I downloaded it for is no longer annoying me and I was able to get what I wanted (they were withholding stuff I needed)[GamePlay] bEssentialTakeNoDamage=0
Gotta request a mod that removes the pure bullet invulnerability of lin/barret/whoever else, lin was such a pain in the ass that I must kill her for validation. on that note I should probably see if I can console kill her with this cause she sucks so much.
when i play starfield i find it very hard to be the good guy because everyone around me always has something stupid to say. this mod will help me relieve much of the stresses that can come with a very limited dialogue pool. and copy paste npc's that cannot say anything interesting ever. prepare yourself galaxy, because you are no longer protected by todd howard, this is my world now.
Kill a random npc, not even a named, can bug a quest.
Exemple: Crimson fleet. First quest on the planet. If a random npc dies, D. will not open the door. Fix: use command "Resurrect" on the npc (to select a specific item/char, use mouse scroll).
