Any chance you can add furniture snaps? I miss the ability to snap chairs to tables, couches side by side, etc... I also want a way to rotate by even degrees so I can align stuff on a grid... it's like... why REMOVE features from building that were there in the previous engine for FO4?? *sigh*
That's the calling card of anyone who dares call themselves a UX designer... They're ALL bad. Or at least they do bad job. Whether that is intentional or not because of bad working conditions, I don't know. But, personally, if I worked with this type of stuff I wouldn't be proud of my work, and would actively feel bad for doing such a bad job.
Thank you very much for trying to make the lives of so many gamers better.
To me anyway, the most obvious aspect of outpost snapping that drives people mad, myself included, is that the containers snap together from long distances. This makes arranging them a nightmare. And to uncouple them, you must select a container, and then move your mouse pointer to the other side of the moon to get the container to break loose.
I tried your mod hoping that would be the effect. Unfortunately, it made no discernible difference regarding the distance when auto-snap occurs between containers, and I uninstalled it. If you can address that issue, I think there would be a noticeable increase in global happiness.
As someone else mentioned, just making the containers snap together as the components do in ship building would be awesome. A somewhat overused word, but here, quite appropriate.
This is probably out of scope, but I'd really like the ability to snap in different directions like have 2 medium containers going horizontally and 2 more on top going vertically so they cris cross each other. It would help for making corners of storage walls.
Also if I have a line of containers and as I place more the ground dips enough that I should be able to fit another there, then I'd like a way to snap below another container. Currently I can only get that to work if I have a container at that lower height already nearby.
i highly doubt it would. However this mod doesn't seem to work beyond making outpost snapping break faster. I just spend 2 hours tweaking the values and these settings the author found don't seem to work for storage container snapping. I think these are the settings that would have worked in fallout, but not here.
This mod works for the larger items. I just meshed up the military hubs and the husbandry items to make a fully enclosed kill cirlce for xp farming. So this mod definitely helps there. We do still need the settings for the small and medium items as those still snap like normal and still have terrible collision issues.
Why oh why didn't I use this mod from the start! And I remember seeing it just tracked it for some reason and didn't download... It makes snapping previews OH SO MUCH EASIER! Now just to solve some more intersection annoyances and I'll be golden! EDIT: Oh ok I remember now why I didn't add it, because most comments said it didn't work or was borked, but it solves my main issue with waiting time for snap/preview, so I'll be ok.
Use this in a bat file to slow down rotation SetINISetting "fItemRotationSpeedMin:Workshop" "0.25" ;default: 1 SetINISetting "fItemRotationSpeedMax:Workshop" "5" ;default: 10
The in-game Settings menu has an option to slow down rotation. Something like "Outpost Item Rotation Speed". Set this to 0 for max control, but you still can't get stuff to line up perfectly a lot of the time. Doesn't help that the camera movement speed has no slider.
fItemRotationSpeedMin and fItemRotationSpeedMax are NOT the right settings, this will only change the Min/Max values of the slider in the game settings.
What you want to set is fItemRotationSpeed:Workshop, that is the actual rotation speed.
For people that use the game hotkeys, here are 2 hotkeys that you can use to switch between a faster / slower rotation speed and open the workshop menu at the same time (you need to have the workshop build menu closed for hotkeys to work, pressing while in build mode doesn't work sadly, so exit and press the key again to switch it)
I was hoping for a mod that would make the snapping distance MUCH shorter/tighter when building and placing items.
Followed the instructions precisely, and the refresh rate for snapping seems better, but I don't really see any change or improvement to snapping behavior (it doesn't seem to be shorter snapping than default). I would really like something that would allow REALLY short snapping distance, so it would be possible to build items closer together.
If anyone has a solution for this or can suggest a mod that actually works for this issue, PLEASE let me know :)

Did they change the names of the commands/settings?
An update would be in order then.

EDIT:
Sorry... starfield.ini
This is the stupidest and confusing description I've ever see, and you just never fix it
Currently each tick is like... 7 or 15 degrees and it makes getting things to line up all but impossible.
Show all resources while building (so we don't end up building over them)?
Increase the radius of the outpost itself?
SetINISetting "fItemRotationSpeedMin:Workshop" "0.25" ;default: 1
SetINISetting "fItemRotationSpeedMax:Workshop" "5" ;default: 10
Whenever I use a setinisetting command it removes my list of bat files I run and only leaves the first one.
Thanks

;Workshop item rotation + enter workshop mode
Shift-[=setini "fItemRotationSpeed:Workshop" 0.5; workshop
Shift-]=setini "fItemRotationSpeed:Workshop" 3; workshop
This should be added to your game console hotkeys file, on the [Hotkeys] section.
